Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

littlezar - I found mine at Jo-Ann Etc (formerly Jo-Ann Fabrics) and they had a pretty big dye section with Tulip, Rit, and Dylon Dyes. I used the Tulip Large Dye kit, and found the Dye Resist and Soda Ash separately. Glad you like them! :)

I am really wanting to make one of these for MNSSHP. I seriously spent the entire day reading through this thread, hoping to find more orange and black tie dyes.

I like the all orange ones and also the ones with the black mickey heads... but I would really like to see one with black and orange swirled. I have seen some other orange "crystal" shirts online with black halloween faces and thought about doing an iron on...

IDK...

I wish i knew if FH would even consider wearing these, lol. I would wear one everyday! Haha

Thanks Goofywalker for your reply about the bleach pen - just saw it . ... I was on to other DISigning!
Am making them this week - can't wait !

iheartpluto ~ Those came out so cute with the bling! I want to try to dye resist but haven't seen it in Michael's or AC Moore the last few times I've been in there.

Hi, I just wanted to report that I found the Tulip Color Block at my Michaels on clearance for $1.99 each. So I bought the 2 they had! Unfortunately, this probably means they will not be carrying this product anymore. I'd keep checking AC Moore or JoAnn, or perhaps online.

AlternateEgo,

I'm trying to decide on colors for a Halloween shirt, too! And it will most likely be 3 or 4 colors swirled.

I highly recommend reading the information on the Dharma Trading site about the different blacks they offer. Some wash out greyish, some wash out with a blue tinge and another one washes out with a greenish tinge.

Whichever, I thiknk its important to make your dye really concentrated to get a really dark black, then really rinse out well and throw right into a washer full of soapy synthrapol water to trap the excess dye molecules.

I'm just worried about the black running into the other swirl colors and making one gray muddy mess!! I might consider trying the sodium alginate thickener to try and prevent this.

Please post them if you make them, I'd love to see them. I won't be making mine til end of summer at least.

And, if you're making them, might as well make one for FH (was this supposed to be DH?), whether you think it will be worn, or not. Adding one more shirt to your batch is a lot less hassle than trying to do it all over again for one shirt. Then, you have it, in case FH decides to wear it. And if he won't, someone you know would probably LOVE it!!:yay:

That's just my luck! LOL!! How long ago did you buy it? Maybe I still have a chance at Michael's in the clearance section!

My son needed a golden yellow shirt for a school production (his class was giraffes) last month. He's not real fond of the color so that's going into the tie dye pile! We don't have a Disney trip planned so we're just doing them for fun.

littlezar,
I found the color resist at Michaels about a week ago. Hope you can dig some up, I know the clearance aisles at the Michaels I shop at are impossible to find ANYTHING specific!!

My Michaels still has some for 1.99! So you may be able to find some still.. I am about to start the orange and black tie dye adventure myself.. my original plan was to bleach a black shirt and then add the orange, but it may be easier just to dye it! IDK, I would love to see peoples pics when they finish! I have been super busy doing summer colors for people, so I thought I would try to get a head start on some Halloween colors, with matching orange and black tutu's for the princesses!

PS- dharma tradings "true black" has worked best for me- it does not leave a cast residue, and does not bleed too bad! It is a little more expensive but worth it! I always do black last, it seems to help with bleeding as well... HTH!

I definitely want to try this, i just have to find the time......Baking cakes all this weekend so maybe next week, I'll be sure to post pictures if i find the time.

OT I know but I just wanted to say I LOVE your cakes!! I wish you lived near me!

Mickey has been sewn, the soda ash soaked, the dye applied.... they're all wrapped and I can't wait to see what happens !!

Maybe my mickeys won't come out, but I have my handy dandy bleach pen at the ready ...
Wish me luck!!!:woohoo::woohoo:

lisamae - CUTE cakes! Wonder if there's a thread for all you food crafty people. I KNOW I don't have that talent but would love to look at them!

Zoebear - Can't wait to see yours! I love seeing what everyone creates!

Hopefully will find time to get to Michaels today...and hoping to find the dye resist. My youngest turn 3 last week and I started potty training this past Tuesday. I haven't been out of the house since then, but potty training is going really well!

OH littlezar potty training is NO FUN! I am there to!

Lisa Mae, once upon a time I started a thread on one of the creativity boards for people to post their Disney themed cakes, you should post some! I love the ones in your siggy, absolutely adorable!

Here are some of my latest shirts...

This one was done on an Old Navy Tank- love it!

This one is not done yet- I am going to add some black to it, but I love how bright the colors are!

And this is not MM, but Disney related, so I thought I would add it in case anyone else wants to try it!

The three older ones all used just the potty ring on the regular toilet - this one I actually had to buy a potty chair for (the fisher price frog one) and I'm bribing with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse gummies. "Only big boys who use the potty can eat gummies!" LOL!

Love the Old Navy tank - perfect for 4th of July! Did you sew the tutu onto the princess slipper tank or are they separates? Really cute!

haha, I am using dinosaur gummies myself! lol.. but my potty is the fisher price on that sings and dances, and everything else- haha- I think it is TOO fun. I may get one of those rings you are talking about!

No, it is seperate. I made that for DS's GF's Bday this weekend (haha- she is turning 2!), but thought I would leave it un sewn so she could wear the tank with another outfit if she wanted! I made it the same way as the MM shirts, just used a slipper instead of a MM head!

YAY -we're pretty pleased for a first attempt! Thanks to everyone for the advice :worship::worship::worship:

I can't post attachments according to the note below :-(
Wish I could show you!

Oh no Zoebear! Have you tried using photobucket to upload the pictures, then paste the IMG code into the text box? We would all love to see them!!
