Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

I had some dye on hand, but did not want to run out and find a shirt. So, I had this turquoise one that had a stain on it that I couldn't remove. Perfect and here it is. . .This was a lot of fun and my whole family said they would wear them! (I'm not sure the boys would wear the crystals though.) :rotfl2:
I only wear V-neck shirts and was not able to find a shirt at WDW last November, so now I have a great Mickey shirt!

Thanks again for all the advice and instructions on here! :thumbsup2

It turned out great! Thanks for showing it to us.

It looks awesome! Where do you get the crystals??? They are way cool. :thumbsup2

Thanks! :thumbsup2 I got the crystals at Michael's. They were in packs of about 100 crystals for $10.99. It took quite a few, but I love the way it turned out!

I'm still going to make a DIS green one, but I'm not sure if I can get it done before next week.

That is SUPER cute! Could you tell me please what color/brand of dye that you used? From the way it turned out, it looks like three different colors?

Also, how did you attach the crystals? Were they the iron on ones, or the bedazzler kind?

Thanks for sharing, I love it!

LuvtheEars - AWESOME Shirt!!! I used crystals as well on mine, and i just love the effect.

sjlupin - for the crystals you can get them also at Hobby Lobby, they have the glue on type or the type that you iron on.

I love the BLING!! :)

Thanks! I'm not sure what brand dye it is. It doesn't say a brand on the box, but I bought it either at Michael's or Joann's. It's a box of dry dye powder and soda ash. I used a turquoise shirt (instead of white) and I mixed turquoise and fuscia to make purple and plain fuscia.

I bought a box of the Swaroyski iron on crystals. They sparkle a lot and look great. I've never used the bedazzler kind of crystals, so I don't know how they compare.

Believe me, you did the right thing in NOT getting the Bedazzler! I used it on my shirts, and after a while gave up on it. Not only were about 1/2 of the rhinestones not setting properly, but it was also making holes in the fabric, as well. I ended up putting the rhinestones in by hand.

I wish that I would've used the crystals instead! (They do look great, BTW.) So, everyone else can now learn from my mistake! :lmao: Use the crystals and not the Bedazzler!

I'm not sure of the day, Tuesday morning the 18th I believe. I saw a family get on the Dumbo ride with the Tie dye Mickey Shirts. So I yelled over to the woman and asked if she was from DIS sure enough she was! I wasn't able to get her user name though. Hopefully if I post here she will see it!
:)

Thanks for the advice! I think I'll go to Joanns or ACMoore and see if I can get some of the crystals. I think my girls would love them. :goodvibes

We just got back from Disney and wore our Mickey Tie-Dye Shirts for 3 of the 10 days we were there (we had a washing machine in our room :goodvibes ).

We got so many good comments and everyone wanted to know where they could buy one -- if I had extras I could have sold them on the spot! It felt so good to be able to say -- I made it!!

I only saw 2 other tie dye families there that had made there own shirts -- I went up to both of them and asked if they DIS or are on the DIS, and they looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language...oh well.

One family did come up to me afterwards and got all the info so she could join the DIS, too.

Wed, 9/19 was a wash out...everyone was in rain gear so it was hard to see the mickey shirts (my poncho is yellow, not clear)...but it was a great day for MK since the park was basically empty!

I was hoping to make us a set of red, white & blue shirts before our trip to use up the dye not used from my last set, but it looks like that won't be happening. Too much to do between now and then!

Right now we're only planning on wearing the shirts on one day since we most likely won't be doing laundry.

So, if you happen to be at the MK on Friday, Oct 19, that will be us! We'll also be going to the LOEMH.

AAAHhhhh - 17 more days!

I am so, so, SO glad you did not use the Bedazzler - frankly, that thing scares me. Ironing I can handle, bedazzling, not so much.

Ok, we are having a mickey tye-dye party at a friends house. Any last words on how to make them great? (I have read this thread 2+ times:rolleyes: ) But feel like Im missing something. :confused3
100% cotton tees
SIL has a kit with some colors, and I bought some of the powder packets
I dont have any soda ash, that sounds pretty important.
Im so excited.:hyper:

Do you have any Disney music you can play while you are dying? :thumbsup2Sounds like a fun time!

Yes, you do need soda ash or the dyes will not take. You can get it at AC Moore or Michaels in the dye section. What I've seen comes in a plastic bag, and it doesn't cost very much.

The only other thing that I can say is to relax and have fun! It's messier than you think, but don't let that stop you. And if you've read the thread so many times, I think you're already a pro and don't know it yet!

Have fun!

 What a good idea!! I will plan that for the next time.

MickeynMinnie,

We went to MGM late that morning and maybe had one little sprinkle. The 20th we missed all the rain....went to lunch at Rainforest at AK and came out and sai "oh must have rained" then rode Kali River Rapids 10 times in a row!!! Kids idea, not mine. Then to dinner at Epcot, France, saw it down pour 2 times. Headed back to our hotel POR got off the bus felt 2 light drops, said "oh its starting to rain and then it POURED!!!! LOL Other than that we missed it all!

I love the halloween shirts -- just wondering, what colors did you use? Was it just orange on a white shirt and then black for the MH? It looks like you drew the MH on afterwards? Tx
