Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

I just made about 30 of these shirts for my son's band. I can't wait to take pictures of the band in their shirts in front of the castle!

Has anyone ever had any cast members say anything about copyright issue with the mickey head? I did not gain anything by doing the shirts (except some blue and green fingers!) so I think it's ok but after I did it I just had an "I wonder if" moment! :confused3

I tried to post a picture - but it wouldn't let me. I guess I'm too new???

Please make a few more posts and come back and post a picture please. That would be great to see!

Those stitch shirts are cute!

No one said anything to us about copyright issues when we were there. We did have quite a few cast members comment on them - funny things about not mixing colors & whites in the laundry, asking where we bought them, asking us to make them one or give them one that we were wearing, LOL. I thought it was a great way to wear matching shirts that stand out. There were plenty of groups/families there that had matching t's but they were all solid colors (green, red, brown, etc) We didn't see any other groups of tie dye.

That's good to hear...I made some for us in 2006 when we went at halloween (orange and black of course). The kids were very excited when their teacher passed out their shirts - I was happy to see that they were excited! Their group picture will be taken in front of the castle in their shirts. I can't wait.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll post pictures as soon as I'm allowed. Does anyone know how many posts you have to have before you can add pics?

I just wanted to let you all know what a success the tie-dye shirts were for my sons band. The kids loved them - they wore them at MGM and several of them were picked to do special things (at the Indiana Jones show and car stunt show). It was also a great way to be able to spot our group members throughout the park. I wish we would have had more shirts for our days at the other parks. Thanks again for the great directions! I still am not able to post pictures - but I'll show them as soon as I can.

:confused3 Sorry - either I'm still not allowed to post pics or I just can't figure out how. I'll try again sometime.

Do you have your pictures downloaded to a photo-hosting site, like Photobucket? You can't load them directly from your pc..have to go through a site like that. Then, down in the "reply" box there is a little yellow box with a mountain in it. When you click on that you can enter the "link" to the photo from the site! If you need more help just post and we'll help you get it figured out!

OH....I'm worried about my tie dye shirts. They are currently sitting in plastic bags until tomorrow but I think I used too much die. All my colors started to run together. I do have yellow, blue, red and then green orange and purple but I'm afraid I may also have muddy brown. Where my blue ran into my yellow and made green, my red also ran into my yellow and made orange. And then, my green and orange appear to have also mixed a little. Please send pixie dust my way in hopes that my shirts turn out somewhat.

Don't worry! They do run together, and the more dye the better! We did another batch just a month or so ago and they had WAY too much white on them. We figured out that the only thing we did differently is we didn't saturate them enough this time! I bet they'll be great!!! :thumbsup2

ONG!!!! My spiral Tie Dye Mickey heads turned out great!!!! I wish I knew how to post pictures. Maybe instead of surfing today, I'll learn how to post pictures. I can't believe how cute they are!

Thanks again for the great instructions and tips in this thread! :thumbsup2 We made another batch of shirts this weekend, and we're very happy with the way they turned out. :goodvibes Here they are:

And this is the back.
I was really pleased with the shirts. My girls just LOVED them. They want to wear them to school tomorrow.
Well, I can post a picture...but how do I make the picture smaller?

Those (both previous posts) are GREAT! Very vibrant! I usually don't care for the yellow mickey heads b/c you can't see them very well, but those came out amazing! You'll have a great time wearing them at WDW, we got lots of comments on ours! :thumbsup2

I'm loving these posts...I've read over half, and will try and finish up tomorrow night!

We had already decided to wear matching shirts this year...now I will be planning matchy tie dye shirts instead. Can't wait until payday to get this started!

Nini...make sure and read these posts. I read the entire thread and got some great tips. I think the tips here are what made my shirts turn out so cute. These people really know how to tie dye. Oh yea, this was my very first time to try tie dying. Not too bad for a beginner.

It's been awhile since I posted but wanted to say how great the all shirts look. I agree with trying to read the whole thread to get thise tips from people who have already made them. I made our way back in 2007! Dh's swirl on the back turned out the best. As the shirts got smaller, especially DD who's was a child size 5, it was hard for me to get them swirlled.

yes...the small size does make it harder. My girls shirts are a 7/8 and a 9/10. I also did 6 colors; yellow, red, blue, yellow, red, blue. If I did it again, I think it would be easier to just do 3 colors; yellow, red, blue. Those shirts were so small it was hard to get six colors in.

I agree about the smaller shirts being harder to get nice swirls on. The last shirt I posted above, with all of the colors, has the nicest swirls and I think it's partially because it was a few inches bigger than the other shirts. All are the same size, but that one is a different cut. Unfortunately it looks huge on me, but the swirls look great!:rotfl:

If I use two colors again (and let them mix to get a third), like in my top three shirts, I think I will make each color section smaller - so, 1/6 blue, 1/6 blue & yellow overlap (green), 1/6 yellow, 1/6 blue, 1/6 blue & yellow overlap, 1/6 yellow. This time I just did 1/3 blue, 1/3 overlap, 1/3 yellow. I'm not sure if in practice it would work, but in theory smaller color sections should create more defined swirls. I'm now apparently addicted to making tie dye shirts, so I may be testing out this theory sooner rather than later!
