Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Thank you! You should try one of these for your girls, they are great for tie dye. Let me know if you need help.

Thanks

Roxy

Hi all, Here is my latest attempt. I used the "bullseye" vs. the spiral. My question is what to do about the Mickey head. Once again, the color bled too much. I am reluctant to try to bleach them because I think it will be very difficult to get the black lightened up. Has anyone tried outlining with fabric paint? I bought some "Scribbles" brand but I want to make sure it's going to look decent! Any help? :confused3

Hey! your shirts look super, good job.

I had never used the painted your mentioned, but you can try on another cloth first and see how it works, let it dry and wash it to see the results, it should be fine if the paint it is fabric paint. I'll google the brand to check it out.

Thanks for sharing.

OK! I know now what paint you're talking about. I think it should be ok as long as you use the template to guide you, but practice on another cloth first.

I am glad that I did not end up needing to use the bleach pen and that the Mickey heads came out nice and clear. I must have used too much dye though because the Mickey heads were supposed to be blue and they turned out a dark purplish/blue. Anyhow, I am still pleased by the results.
Did you use 100% cotton shirts? The poly blends can make the colors mute a bit. In any case, they look great!

Oooo! I love the pixie dust. I have used rhinestones before, but not glitter. What a nice bling :).

Are you thinking about trying to match the yellow? I don't think that's a good idea.

Littlelovebug, great job on the shirt! I love the colors. My family has shirts with those colors. The colors are unique. :hippie: I too, am waiting to see how the glitter holds up after washing. popcorn::

The blue a the bottom :

Eggs robin and i mixed it with peacock blue, turquoise and Caribbean blue.

Pink and brown:

Hot Pink and chocolate brown.

Those are the ones!! Thanks so much for telling me. I've got an order ready...:scared1:...Now I just have to find the money. Yep, that's right, I don't know how the order came to almost $270?? :confused3 Oh, well, it's only money!!! :rotfl2:

I don't have anything to start with, so that's why it's going to be so high, but here's the list (without dye colors, of which there are many!:thumbsup2):

Soda Ash Fixative
Synthrapol
Urea

Is this all the chemicals I need?? Just want to make sure I haven't missed something along the way.

Oh :scared1: well if you didn't have anything I understand the grand total. Next time don't buy the soda ash from Dharma, not that is anything bad, but its heavy and the shipping charge can be very expensive.
You can find the Soda Ash at your local home depot or hardware store, even Wal mart. The use the soda ash in swimming pools. :thumbsup2

I think you are all set! :woohoo:

Thanks! This was my first try so I really had no idea how it would turn out! Some of the glitter did wash off but most of it stayed. I think I let the glue get too dry before I added the glitter. I'm going to try touching it up and see what happens. This was my my test shirt, but I'm really loving it! I also have one that is pink, purple and blue that I will add "pixie dust" to once I know what I am doing. That one will be her official WDW shirt!

Does the glitter makes the fabric hard? Because of the glue? Thanks

You can definitely feel it if you run your hand along the inside of the shirt, but I don't think it feels any worse than an iron on transfer. I'm going to touch up the glitter then post a pic once it's finished.

I'm really loving your designs! I'm glad I found your thread, although I think this could be a dangerous new addiction...:rolleyes1

Oh i see, i figure that with time it would not feel hard anymore just like the iron on. It looks super cute like pixie dust. it can be addictive like any disney related stuff, but its fun and you will learn as you go. Take care and tanks for sharing.

Going to make my first attempt at the spiral tie dye, and am ready with all my supplies. Fortunately, I have a pool at my house, so already had the sodium carbonate (soda ash) sitting at the ready.

Question I have is how much sodium carbonate to how much water for the soaking before dying. I've searched through the thread and can't seem to find the answer.

Any help would be appreciated....

Wish me luck!

I don't get on here as often as I would like but logged on cause DH's and I's 15th Anniversary trip is about a month away. I get sooooo excited that this little thread I started so long ago is still alive and well. You guys are doing some AWESOME shirts. Go Tye Dyers!!!!!!

OK, someone asked me to try to make a pillowcase, so I did. It turned out way better than I expected. I think it looks amazing.
The colors are bright and cool.

I think it can be perfect for character's autographs, with a fabric safe permanent marker.

So here is a couple of pics.... Hope ya'll like them.
