Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Thanks for the tip about the pen at Michaels. I will save my 40% off coupon from today's paper. I went to Target today and we checked there for bleach pens. Couldn't find any. We checked in the detergent and bleach aisles and also up front near the registers. I am hoping that the shirts will be ok since I went nuts with my rubber bands :goodvibes

My shirts turned out pretty well. I am pretty happy with them. There is more white than I would have liked but overall, they look great. The Mickey's all look excellent! I think it was my crazy number of rubber bands that did it!

Now I just have to figure out how to get the pictures on here.

Ok, here are my pictures.

I did not get a good spiral on most of the shirts but I am very happy with how they turned out. Especially for my first attempt at tie dying since I was a kid in camp. Sorry that one DD looks so unhappy, her allergies are killing her today! But both of them love their shirts.

Good job! Yup! The rubber bands make all the difference. Your Mickeys look nice. The bleach pen is hard to find, some stores don't carry them any more, I found mine at Sam's.

Thank you for sharing your pics! :thumbsup2:lovestruc

I am glad that I did not end up needing to use the bleach pen and that the Mickey heads came out nice and clear. I must have used too much dye though because the Mickey heads were supposed to be blue and they turned out a dark purplish/blue. Anyhow, I am still pleased by the results.

Oh I see, they look cool!

Here's my first attempt. Thanks for the great step-by-step instructions! :thumbsup2

Then I decided to add some "pixie dust." :tinker:This is the first time I've used the glitter too, so hopefully it won't wash off too much. I have to wait 72 hours to find out!!

Thanks! Is there a limit of how many shirts you'd personally soak at a time?

No, there is no limit as long as you have enough water/soda mix, if you have a lot of shirts make 2 gallons instead of one and so on.

Use a rectagular container to distribute the amount of shirts better.

Great job! Looks terrific and even better with the glitter, I had never tried glitter on a tie dye, I had done other shirts with glitter and it worked fine a couple times, of course after making a mess and boo-bos. Haha. Great job!

How did you applied the glitter?

Thanks ♥

I used a sponge applicator and brushed around my stencil with Tulip Fashion Glitter Bond (from Michael's) and then sprinkled on Tulip Fashion Glitter. You're supposed to wait 72 hours to wash it, so I'm really really hoping a lot of it sticks! I bought the assorted glitter, it has silver, white, black, teal, blue, and purple. I'll post another pic after I wash it.

PixieDust32:

I was wondering if you could tell me what colors you used for the blue shirt and the pink and brown shirt from page 137, post #2048?? I'm getting my order together for dharma, so I want to make sure I get the blues right for sure! Thanks!!

Oh, BTW, I can't wait to see how the glitter comes out on the shirts above. I don't have a craft store near me, any ideas where I can get the stuff??

T.
