Tickets - Not sure what type they are

We are visiting Disney for the first time with my 4 year old in a month. My in-laws live in Florida and their next day neighbor works at Disney. They told us we could get tickets through them for $40 a adult a day, however I want to be sure these are employee tickets and not something I am doing 'wrong'. How do I tell without being able to talk to these guys (sometimes talking to my in laws is like talking to wall :rotfl:). They said we would just meet them (since they work at the park) each day at the same place and get the tickets. Another drawback is we have to meet them each day at one park, so we would have to go park to get the tickets and then to the park we want to go to. Anyone heard of this and is it worth the trouble to save $250?

Sounds like the CM is selling their comp admissons (main gate entries) which is against company policy.

You said 40 is the adult price, what are you paying for your 4 year olds admisson?

One of the perks of being a CM is the ability to get up to 3 friends or family members into the parks for free up to (I think) 12 times per year. The catch is that the CM has to meet their friends at the gate of the park they want to visit to get them into the park. AND the CM is supposed to stay with their friend/family member while they are in the park. It kind of sounds like this is what your in-laws are talking about.

It is against Disney policy for a CM to charge for doing this. That doesn't mean that some CMs don't do this anyway. But if they caught, they will lose their job.

They told me either $10 or free for my 4 year old. So I know they do not intend to stay with us the whole time, with that being said my concern is are we able to leave the park and come back? And they said I would met them at SAME park each day and from there I could go to whatever park I wanted. I am just afraid I am understanding my inlaws all wrong.. It is a CM I do know that much. I just want to be sure:

a) this is not something I will get in trouble for
b) we can go back to the same park if DS needs a nap
c) we can go to different parks (one park a day)

Thanks in advance you have already figured more out than I could have!

You may be missing the part about how this is against company policy. That being said, discussions on trying to get around Disney rules are not allowed on this board.

CM's are allowed to purchase park tickets at Company D for about a 10% off a FL resident rate. These are the same Magic Your Way Tickets you can purchase at the gate. These can be purchased for friends and family, but you're still looking at about $60 per adult/per day.

If they are requesting you meet them at the gate, then that is using the Main Gate pass. It sounds like they really don't want to get you into the parks, or do not care about company policy.

When I worked for Disney, one too many times my aunt "extended my benefits with the company", and asked me to get some one in that she knew. Just because I had the entries, didn't mean I had the time to do it. While they have changed the rules a bit (like allowing CMs to be in full costume), it's not easy to always meet some one for a few days in a row on their vacation time. It's one thing to say "hey I'm off on Tuesdays, wanna go to the parks?" It's another when I'm told their park days and can you meet us at the gate at this time. Schedules change, hours change, and if I'm opening at 8:30am, I can't meet you at the gate at 9am to get you in and I'm not taking my short lunch break to get you in.

And I'm sure they're requesting you to meet them at the Park that they work in. So they can get to their work location on time. Disney is extremely tight on it's clock in policies, 1 minute past you're scheduled time, and it's 1/2 a point... 3 points and its a reprimand.

Unless it was your in-laws that worked for Disney, don't even bother with "I know a friend of a friend that can get you in for free"... And on another note, NO your in-laws CAN NOT purchase FL resident discounted tickets for you and your family. Each adult in the party must show a valid FL ID (including college IDs) prior to receiving the actual park ticket. Any adult may purchase for a minor (3-17 yrs old) and use any discounts that might apply to them. If an adult purchases a ticket for another adult, they will only receive a voucher to be traded in for the park ticket when ID is shown.

I am not a fan of being on someone else's schedule. You will want to maximize your time in the parks and not have to wait around until 11:00 (when it's busy) to get into the park of your choice that day. I would just buy the tickets you want and when your ILs ask why you didn't take advantage of the neighbors, just smile and say, "It was worth the extra money to be able to do what we want to do when we want to do it and not be tied down to someone else's schedule."

There are three ways a CM can get Guests into a Park.

1. They can buy any MYW ticket (or AP voucher) at Company D, getting a 10% discount. Basically this is the same price that Disney sells to the wholesalers. It is my understanding that you can be reimbursed by the Guests for these tickets. (Florida Resident rate tickets are also sold only as vouchers.)

2. Each CM will receive two "Complimentary" one day park hoppers every six months. These tickets are valid for approximately two years from date of issuance and have a specific expiration date. Each of these state on them that they are not for sale or barter, but may be given to a relative or friend or donated to a charitable organization. The CM does not have to be present for admission with these.

3. Each CM has a Main Gate Pass. This allows the CM to bring in a certain maximum number of Guests a certain maximum number of times per year (number vary depending on different factors). Blockout dates apply. The CM must escort the Guests into the Park. If not a relative, the CM must remain with the Guests while in the Park.

The tickets mentioned in 2 and 3 above are valid for Park Hopping. Each person, when they enter, will be given a ticket valid for that day only for use in Fastpass machines, for re-entry or for park hopping. These tickets tie to the CM who issued them

If a CM is caught selling any of the tickets from #2 or #3 that is a firing offense. And termination is the only option, no warnings are given. And if a Guest does something which gets them in trouble, since the tickets tie back to the CM, the CM can get in trouble for not controlling their Guests.

How many days will you be there. Is it $40 per person, per day? I really do not think it is worth it to do something you know is against Disney policy.
