Hi there,

We're renting a DVC 1BR for 4 nights in June and I'm trying to figure out the best deal on park tickets. "We" are 2 adults, a 4yr old and 2.5yr old (a freebie, yeah!)

We don't arrive till late in the evening the first day, so we really will have 4 days available to use. What's the best ticket deal available??

4 day park hopper plus from online brokers vs. the ultimate park hopper thru disney vs AAA, buying clubs, etc. Can renters get the 10% DVC discount? Can the member buy the tix for you with the discount???

Help?!?

Thanks,
- Joe

There are variables only you can answer. You can get the UPH pass and may or may not get the 10% off the full price on arival. You cannot buy the advance purchase version. If you decide on the UPH, you may be able to drop the first and/or last day. If you decide on the UPH, try to drop all days you won't be at the park for a FULL day. In general, I think the 4 day or longer Park Hoppers are the best deal unless you can get 8 or more days from an annual pass. Remember that many tickets are good forever. You may also be able to buy some of the special tickets through online options, like a 2 or 3 day PH.

DVC Discount is only applicable to UPHs. Unless you plan on going to Disney Quest, Pleasure Island, Mini Golf and Water Parks...your best bet is probably a 4 day hopper, You can purchase this upon check-in at your hotel, or purchase it from an online broker prior to your visit.

Technically, renters are not entitled to the DVC perks. But you may get them. They may ask to see you blue DVC card as well. You never know.

I was asked to show my DVC card when I purchased our passes recently at OKW. They also warned me that a lot of the places that have DVC discounts are asking to see the DVC member card, not just your room key.

That is absolutely correct, and a word to the wise.

Wolfgang Puck's has asked me for the membership card twice. Disney-owned restaurants have never asked me for it; maybe it is just occurring with some of the non-Disney establishments that provide the discount.

To avoid problems, carry your blue card with you.

Just to clarify for the original poster, the written policy is that DVC perks are not available if the member receives monetary compensation for the use of their points (this would allow relatives/friends etc. who are being treated to a trip to get the perks). The stated policy for the ticket discount is that the member must be staying in the unit and purchasing for the entire party. The member DVC room discount is only available on a unit where the member will physically be staying.

That said, exceptions have been made to all of the above. The most common one is allowing member perks based on the room key saying "DVC member". It is interesting to hear that some places are requiring both. DVC members were recently granted priority seating for the Flower Power concerts and it says that we must show the member card for this perk as well.

(p.s. Lived in Niskayuna myself when I was 2-3 years old!)

There is no requirement for DVC members, and never has been, to purchase the UPH for the entire party for DVC though it is a requirement for other WDW LOS passes.
