Okey dokey, this is confusing to me.
We will want to upgrade our 7 day MYW tickets to annual passes when we get there.
I understand you get some kind of "credit" for unused days on your ticket.
Any idea how much credit?
Is it, for example, a 4day MYW price ticket credit if I trade it with 4 days remaining?
Or should I wait and change it at the 3day mark?
Am I making sense?
And APs are always hoppers, right?

Upgrades have to be made within 14 days of use.

Here's the "deal" but it has problems.

1. IF you use the ticket for ONE day you should get GATE price as a credit for the new AP.

2. The first date of the new AP will be the date you FIRST used the ticket.

So if you bought your 4 day ticket from Disney then there's no real advantage to using it for a day first.

If you bought your ticket from a broker then there might be.

Now, warnings CHECK EVERYTHING!

I did this a few months ago.

1. They backdated my AP NOT to the date I first used the ticket but the date they PRINTED the ticket. That took a month off the AP. Got that fixed.
2. They tried to charge me the difference between what Disney got from Undercover Tourist and the face value of an AP. In other words not only was I not getting the ticket credit for what I paid, I was not getting the GATE value even though I had used the ticket for one day.

Have your math figured out so you can deal with this!

Tickets can be upgraded within 14 days of first use to an AP. As long as you have used your tickets at least once, you will receive a credit for the full gate price towards the purchase of that AP. If you do not use it you will only receive the price paid for the ticket (which would be the price you paid if bought thru Disney or the price that the reseller paid if you purchased thru someone like UT or Mapleleaf.) You are not penalized for using any days but your AP will be dated back to the date that you first used the ticket.

If you have purchased your tix thru a reseller it is so important that you use the ticket at least once before you upgrade to an AP.

I know that CarolA had problems with her transaction but I have done this a few times and NEVER had a problem :)

Disney is giving me the ticket with the 4/3 deal. (yes, I realize they aren't "giving' it to me)
I am just trying to figure out how much it will be to upgrade to annual..

Take the cost of a DVC AP and subtract the gate price of your ticket (I guess in your case it would be a 7 day ticket.)

We just did this last year. Disney will credit you the entire value of your ticket toward the price of an AP. The start date of the AP will be the same as the first day of use for the other pass. So it's as if you purchased the AP to start with. Oh yeah, the APs are effectively hoppers.

So it doesn't matter when you convert to the AP, you will not be any further ahead. But if you have not used your passes yet, it is always a good idea to use them at least once before upgrading. The reason being, the price you paid could be lower than the value at the time of upgrade. Disney will give you credit for the current price of the tickets only if they have been used.

We actually got money back when we converted to APs. We had 10d no exp tickets that were actually worth more than the DVC discounted AP.

Once we realized how many times we could squeeze in a trip to WDW within the year, it made sense to go with the APs. We also hated trying to get the most use out of each day when we used the daily passes.

Did they give you the DVC discount, also?
It seems complicated to me for some reason, but I am having a complicated day..

Yes, you still get the DVC discounted AP rate. The DVC annual price is $392.99. Your 7 day ticket (MYW - expiring with no hop and no WP&more) is worth $242.82. When you upgrade you will owe $150.17.

It really is not complicated at all. Since you are getting your tix directly from Disney just go and upgrade them at the ticket window of any of the parks.
