Got a flyer from Disney Visa to purchase advance sale tickets for the Lion King. You can't go to the theater and purchase tickets, you must do it online or via phone with Ticketmaster.

Well, the bonehead online deal won't let me select the date I want - it keeps sticking me with the same crummy date I can't make.

The idiot phone thing has had me on hold for about 45 minutes now.

Anyone else ever have trouble with ticketmaster?

I am not a big fan of Ticketmaster. (to the point that I usually call them something that I probably can't post on these boards ... it SOUNDS the same, just change a few letters in "master") Their surcharges sometimes end up being more than the ticket itself. And then they'll charge me another surcharge for paying with a credit card, a "convinience charge", and another fee for picking it up at will call ...ick

Maybe I should just hang up and go buy my tickets at the box office when they go on sale? Sounds like I'll be losing more than I'll be getting with this deal.

With the theater The Lion King playd at in our town, they don't sell through ticketmaster. They sell their tickets direct through the theater, Thank goodness. Yes, TM is a pain in the butt! As for waiting until they go on sale at the box office. Don't know about that, people here started lining up 2 days before they went on sale. At least my Disney Visa was good for something.

I used the Visa deal for tickets when Lion King was here in Pittsburgh last winter. I did it online, I thought it was tickets.com. I think the tickets came direct from the theater. I did something really stupid. I picked a Saturday afternoon that had great seats down front. They went on sale in August for January/February. I forgot that date was the day my brother was getting remarried (small wedding)! After I bought them I mentioned it to my mom and she told me it was his wedding day! Luckily someone at work bought them off me and I was able to go back in and get good seats for a Sunday night (really wanted a matinee). Loved the show, but realized the seats down front weren't really the best. The stage is high so there were some things on stage level that you could not see.

Perhaps the date you want is sold out?

....and I work at a ticketmaster outlet!!!!

I totally agree that the service and convenience fees are a ripoff and I don't know how they get off charging so mcuh. Yesterday I looked up a show I wanted to see....checked all the available dates for the best seats and then on my lunch break walked over to the theater and got the exact same seats with no service charge.

Take that Ticketmaster!

Linda

actually, no. I buy a lot. I just bought Circus tickets before I came over here. I've even gotten front row seats from ticketmaster.

<ducking>

I know when the tickets went on sale to the public here, there were not alot of tickets left. People complained that they were at the window early the first day and could not get good seats. Between the season subscribers and the pre-sales, the good seats were gone by time the public sale started. I would rather suck it up and pay the fees for the internet pre-sale than wait for the public sale and get bad seats.

You'll have to let us know how you fared and what you finally decided to do with the tickets.

I got the same visa offer and went ahead and bought my tickets online - fees and all.

I also used to work at a ticketmaster outlet. The thing that frustrates me almost as much as their outrageous fees is the fact that all you can do with their online system is look for best available - I KNOW what the computer shows as best available is not always the best seat location. Frustrating!

For the shows here I know there are three rounds of pre-sales before tickets are released to the public.
I'm also amazed at how many tickets I'm already seeing at ticket broker (scalpers) sites when the visa deal is still the only pre-sale going on. Guess they got the code from somewhere to allow them early purchase access.

In fact, I don't think there are ANY of the $130 premium seat packages left and the tickets just went on sale Monday.
Not that I would pay that much anyway!
I was just checking to see where the 'really good' seats would be.
