Does anyone know if DL does the ticket upgrade to annual passes the same way WDW does? I have friends going at the end of Jan and they currently have 2 day hopper passes but would like to upgrade to the cheapest annual pass (most blackouts, etc)

Yes you can put the cost of a park ticket towards the cost of an AP. I do believe you have to do it before the last day of the ticket has been used. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The difference between how the upgrade is done is that at Disneyland you only get what you PAID towards the upgrade.

(at WDW you get the current value of the ticket, as long as you used it first and the CM is doing it right)

I'd word it a little different. Not before the last day of use, but before the end of the day on the last day of use, or before it expires if you don't use all the days.

The main difference from WDW is that you upgrade from the price you paid for your tickets. So you loose any discount.

In WDW you upgrade from the gate price after activating your tickets, even if the tickets were bought at discount.

At DLR, there are 4 pass types, two for SoCal residents. Then a delux with blockouts and a premium with no blockouts and some extra discounts on other Disney park products. Look at the blockout calendar because after just a couple blockout day tickets, currently at $59, it's worth it to get the premium.

Yes, they can do this. They have to do it before the end of the last use day. So if they go Friday and Saturday they have to upgrade on Saturday before the parks close. They will credit for what they paid for the park hoppers and the tickets they are upgrading to must cost more then they paid for the hoppers. Also, for the last 2 types of passes they must reside in So Cal and they must be able to provide residency.
