Ticket upgrade to AP story

Last August my brother came down to Orlando and purchased a 2 Day/2 Park pass. The cost was like $99 + tax. He used one day in August of 05 and came down for a visit 2 weeks ago. Just for kicks he decided to see if he could upgrade his pass to an annual pass. Took it to vacation services in one of the parks and they charged him about $13. The difference from the price of the Power Pass (with tax) and the original price of the 2 Day ticket. His pass now expires in March of 07. Not too shabby I think. I thought they would have taken the unused value of the ticket and charged the difference. Haven't searched on this so sorry if this was already posted, though if not, hopefully it helps someone out.

that is something.......only had one valid day on the ticket and paid $13 for the pass.

wow

guess we all will be rushing to vacation services in the park.

wait, how did he get into the parks if he didn't use the second day on that 2 day pass. you said he used one day of it in 05.
vacation services is inside the parks isn't it?

Any tickets can be upgraded to an AP if they have not expired. The AP start date would be the first day of usage on the ticket you are upgrading from. Since his ticket was a non-expiring two day ticket he can upgrade the full value of the ticket even the day he used but the start date of the AP should have been set to August not March. He must have had soemone who didn't know that or they just set the date in March to be nice.

When you upgrade a two day ticket, they give you the full value of what you paid for the two day not just the one day left on the ticket. So if you have a two day ticket and decide to upgrade at the end of the day after you have already used your 2nd day, you will still get the full value of the 2 day ticket applied to your upgrade.

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread but I have a question about upgrading. We have a package for June that has tickets included with a stay of 4 nights or better. Can we have those tickets upgraded? I'm not trying to get something for nothing but if we can do that in a cost effective manner it might encourage us to come back and spend more money with US like we do with the Mouse. :)

I'm going to say "probably" you can upgrade them. The program is so new that I haven't actually seen the tickets included in the hotel package. If they don't say "complimentary" on the tickets, then they will be most likely be able to be upgraded. I believe the tickets included in the hotel packages are the Bonus tickets which can be upgraded but I don't know for sure what tickets are in the vacation packages.

I did see some tickets yesterday which had "Hard Rock Hotel" printed on them but I didn't ask if they had simply purchased the tickets at Hard Rock or if they were included in a vacation package. The tickets they had could be upgraded.

Sorry I needed to break it down that he needed to ENTER the park in order to upgrade the ticket. It is true he handed his ticket to an employee at the gate , entered the park and then made his way to Vacation Services inside the park. Hense using up the second day.

In reply to Phantom: It might have been a mistake, but when he was done he asked the person that helped him to verify the expiration date and they scanned the ticket. Either way he was prepared to come out of there being shot down or told it would expire in August. Worked out for him. I figured that because the first time it was used was last year, they would have taken any unused value and applied it to the ticket. Thanks for your input.

Actually they always take the full value of the ticket not just the unused portion. So if you have multi-day ticket that cost $100 and you are using your last day, they will still credit the full $100 to offset the cost of the AP or any upgrade you do. Technically the AP should start on the first day you used the tickets but if the ticket was used a long time before, they will sometimes just start the expiration on the day you get the AP. An example would be if you had a 3 day ticket and you used 2 days in 2000. Then you enter the park in 2006 to use the last day and upgrade to the AP, they will take the cost of the ticket when you bought it and upgrade but would start the AP that day or else the AP would expire before you could even use it.

Glad it worked out for your brother. Universal really does try to be fair with their guests.

Has anyone tried to upgrade the adult tickets purchased w/the free kids ticket? I know the child ticket has no value...but what about the adult one? We are toying with the idea of upgrading ours when we go in a couple of weeks so we can plan a return trip in six months or so. Also, we purchased the tickets a few months ago...but won't be activating them until the end of this month -- which date would they use for the expiration date on the AP? And last but not least, since the tickets were 2 day w/3 days free, can we upgrade to AP's anytime during the five consecutive days, or would we need to do it during the first two days?

Sorry OP!

Lots of people have upgraded the 5 day bonus tickets to APs. You won't have any problem doing that.
