ticket upgrade questions...

i've seen mention of people upgrading tickets, but i can't really find out what that means. i did a few searches to no avail, although i'm sure this has been discussed plenty of times here's what's up...we are meeting my parents and brother's family in dl next week. we will be staying four days longer than they are, but already have the tickets for the first 6 days. so...i'm looking at buying 4 more 4-day hopper tickets. is it better to get an ap and hope we make it back within a year? how does the upgrading even work? any help or pointing to the correct thread is greatly appreciated!!!

You can only upgrade a 6 day pass to an AP. A 6 day PH is the longest PH available. It would be cheaper to upgrade to an AP than buy a 4 day PH.

yay! 'cheaper' was the word i was hoping to hear so if i understand from my readings over the last couple years, i do the upgrading at a service desk, right? is that something i can find in the disneyland hotel, or only in the park? anyone know how long it usually takes to do this and if we need anything other than our park hopper ticket?

I'm not sure how you do it, but I have read that you want to make sure and use your Magic Morning before upgrading. once you upgrade, you will lose that if you haven't already used it. have a great trip!

Use your MM first, then upgrade ASAP to take advantage of the food discounts. You need to go to Plaza Pavillion to upgrade and they will take your photo and print your passes. You will need your PH and your ID.

ETA: If you are staying onsite then do it your first day.

Yep, do it at the Plaza Pavillion, which is near the central hub on Main Street, on your left as you're walking toward the castle.

If you upgrade to the Deluxe AP before the last day of your ticket to take advantage of certain discounts, make sure there will be no blockout dates during the rest of your stay, otherwise you will need to buy a blockout day pass to enter the park on those days.
