Ticket Upgrade Question

Wondering if anyone can help me with this. We have a few trips planned this year and I was planning on purchasing my kids a 7 day park hopper w/ the no expire option before our trip next month. That, combined with the 1 day ticket we have for the free dining package in Sept. would be enough for the 2 trips the kids will be on. Now my parents have mentioned the possibility of them taking our kids for a weekend shortly after the baby we are expecting is born. If they were to do that, I would know before our September trip and could upgrade their tickets before we leave. If I have a 7 day hopper w/ no exp. and want to upgrade to a 10 day hopper w/ no exp. I am assuming I would pay the difference between a 7 day and a 10 day AND the difference in the no-exp costs. So a 7 day hopper w/ no exp for kids at the advance purchase price is $266 + tax. A 10 day hopper w/ no-exp gate price is $364 so I would pay $98 + tax to upgrade, correct? My husband is convinced it is the # of days only but that it is already no exp so we wouldn't pay for that again. So by his logic, a 7 day hoppper is $201 and a 10 day hopper is $220 so we'd only pay $19. I think they will charge us the higher no exp cost too.

Anyone know which of us is right???

(Unused tickets) Generally the cost to upgrade is about the difference between what you paid for the ticket you have versus the gate price of the ticket you want. This reflects the more expensive cost of non-expiration for a 10 day pass versus for a 7 day pass.

Apparently for tickets purchased in advance from Disney itself, guests have been getting full gate price credit for the tickets they have when figuring the additional amount they need to pay to upgrade. Guests with tickets purchased from some vendors including AAA have reported losing their advance purchase discount when the cost to upgrade was said and done.

Ask first and get an itemized upgrade price for each ticket, not the grand total, especially when some tickets in your hand are child tickets. Feel free to step out of line and think about it before actually doing the upgrade.

True.

When tickets have an advance purchase discount - they only charge you the aount for the upgrade itself, and do not charge you for the discount.
