... I found this below on the ticket sticky thread..... so here's my big question- Since I purchased 2 day base tix as part of a full package, is it in my best interest to add some extra days on NOW,before I P.I.F. for package,,or use the tickets ONCE to get into a park, then go to guest services, and add some extra days?
It seems from this info, that as part of pckg, it cost me $11.44 less per ticket than buying at the front gate. So wouldn't I be 'credited' that little extra if I used them once before adding days?
And If I am credited that, what would the price be for extra days at the park? SInce it's more costly to buy at park than ahead of time on WDW site, would it be a wash, finance wise?Would I pay 'gate prices for the days I added anyway?
Thank you for any insight on this!

You may upgrade it either before it has been used or after first use. If it was sold as part of a package and is on your KTTW it is considered to have been sold at a discount

However, if the ticket was used at least once, then the CGP is locked into the ticket as its value. The ticket seller (in a booth or GRO) will first issue an “intermediate” ticket at the current gate price and charge the difference between the initial selling price and the CGP to an internal account. These intermediate tickets will then be upgraded to add days and/or options to your target, and you will only be charged the difference between the CGP of the intermediate ticket and he new ticket.

It's always better to use the tickets before upgrading. I can't really follow your scenario but you said something about tickets being cheaper in the package than at the gate and that's not correct. The price would be the same.

You will always owe the difference between the current gate price of your tickets (in a a package) and the gate price of the ticket you want to end up with, provided you use the tickets before upgrading.

from what I read there, it appears that if I buy 2 day tix as part of a package,it's considered 'discount' off gate prices...(according to mousesavers,it;s about 11.00 more to buy at gate than thru package)

Yes.
Internally, Disney considers tickets that are part of a Resort Package are considered to be "discounted," and that's a good thing, because only tickets bought at a discount are now eligible for "price bridging" when necessary.

And, yes, you should use the tickets at least one time to enter a Theme Park BEFORE you do any upgrade.

It's never been clear to me that tickets in packages are really discounted or how much (not arguing with the idea that package tickets are considered discounted tickets). CF always says that any differences in packages vs. individual components come from discounts on the resort portion, not the tickets. So anyway, just explaining what I meant by my comment about the ticket prices being the same.

Yes.

But, I was explaining that Disney does consider the package tickets to be "discounted."
And, in so doing, they WILL allow "price bridging" of tickets bought as part of a resort package.

But- (and, this is the "new-along-with-this-year's-price-increase" rule)

Disney will NOT allow price bridging on tickets purchased at the Disney park gates, from the WDW resorts, over-the-phone, or on-line directly from Disney.

Both of those kind of tickets are purchased from Disney,
but they are not treated the same.
That's the important distinction that I'm trying to make.

The only tickets sold by Disney Ticket Operations at full gate price are those sold at any Park ticket or Guest Relations window. This includes the four theme parks, the two water parks, Downtown Disney, the Transportation and Ticket Center, and the Epcot International Gateway. This also includes any tickets sold by phone or internet that are not park of any Resort package.

Although The Disney Store and Walt Disney Travel Company (all packages) may sell them to you at full price, they, as well as any authorized off-site vendors, pay a discounted wholesale price to Disney Ticket Operations.

And WDTC will not break out the cost of a package and state how much you are paying for tickets, for dining, and for room.

well, just looking at ticket options on pricing packages shows the tix cost less than full gate price,so that's obvious..... they have a whole chart with prices and options....
so I guess if I want to add,I wait till that first day of use, but Cheshirefigment, will it be of any benefit to wait till then? Disney math is a little confusing at times.... like would there be a difference in what I pay for a 2 pckg. ticket, used once, add 4 more days (total 6)
vs just adding the 4 more days while paying off my pckg? thanks for all the info!:yay:

Last year when I went over Halloween, I bought the 2-day base ticket for the package. I have some non-expiring tickets that I was going to use for the other 2 days. When my friend went to add two more days at the front desk at Pop, the Cast Member told her it would only be $76 to upgrade. When I heard that, I said to just put 2 more days on mine instead of using the non-expiring tickets.

Just make sure you don't use up the last day on your ticket before you add more days onto your ticket.

1- Got it. 2 days new, never-used.

2- Seldom a good idea to use 2 sets of tickets during the same trip, as you discovered.

3- Yes.

4- Prices have gone up a bit this year.
With the current ticket prices, adding 2 additional days to a new 2-day ticket would cost $80, plus $5.20 tax.

5- Again, that only applies if your ticket does not have your name computer-printed on it by Disney... i.e. a KTTW card.
If you have a KTTW card with your tickets on it, you still have the full "14-days-after-first-use" to do any upgrades.

In general, it can never HURT to wait until after you have used a ticket at least one time to enter a Theme Park BEFORE doing any upgrades, and it can sometimes HELP financially to wait until after a ticket is used.

In YOUR particular case (you did not say when you first purchased the package)
it would likely not matter if you just added the days beforehand.

HOWEVER-
Since you will not necessarily know -FOR SURE- that you will need the additional days (I read so many tales of surprise "sick tummies" and "had to go home early" due to anything and everything) it might just make some sense to simply WAIT until you are about to need those extra days, and then do the upgrade.
Since you are staying at a WDW Resort, you will have the full 14 days after using your tickets the first time in which to do any ticket upgrades.

Robo, how do you know that's what adding 2 days will cost? I guess I don't see that info, looking around..... I think I'm totally confused about the benefit of waiting to add vs not waiting, if it won't save me anything why wait? But again according to the sticky it *should* save me something to wait, and bridge....sorry if i seem dense, disney math always gets to me!:rotfl2:

You pay the difference between the gate price of the ticket you have and the ticket you want. The difference is where the $80 comes from.

1- It's nothing that you need to know WHY to do it.
It is something that you often just SHOULD do before upgrading a ticket.

2-
A- You might not save any money in THIS PARTICULAR CASE, but
B- I explained why... It might save you from buying tickets that you don't need if something comes up before you can use those tickets.
And, nobody who has had "something come up" knew ahead of time that the situation was coming.

3- Again, you don't need to know WHY (it's a Disney internal bookkeeping thing.)
Just know that it is possible that if you DO use a ticket before upgrading
in many cases it can save you money on ticket upgrades.
And, that it can't HURT to use a ticket to go into a Theme Park before upgrading that ticket.

I originally bought a 4day base ticket through UCT. Added the park hopper on once I used the ticket once. I'm wondering how much it would cost to add on 1 additional day if I now only have 1 day left on the original 4-day ticket? Would we pay the difference between a 1-day and 2-day ticket? Or pay the difference between a 4-day and 5-day ticket?

You would pay the difference between a 4-day and a 5-day ticket.

Perfect! Thanks for the quick response! Much rather spend an extra day in the park today as we had nothing planned and for $26 it's well worth it! :)

I've read the entire thread, and I "think" I'm following...but I still want to ask to be sure. I have two 9 day tickets (in a vacation package), and I recently thought about going ahead and doing the 10-day. It would cost me about $21 to go ahead and change it before I leave. If I am reading this thread correctly, if I just wait and add the day after I use my tickets for the first time in June, I can add the 10th day while I'm there and pay LESS than the $21 I could go ahead and pay now???
