Ticket upgrade or add days Question, can I do this?

I've read the entire thread, and I "think" I'm following...but I still want to ask to be sure. I have two 9 day tickets (in a vacation package), and I recently thought about going ahead and doing the 10-day. It would cost me about $21 to go ahead and change it before I leave. If I am reading this thread correctly, if I just wait and add the day after I use my tickets for the first time in June, I can add the 10th day while I'm there and pay LESS than the $21 I could go ahead and pay now???

It should be $10.65 per ticket to add a tenth day at the parks, after you used them once.

You answers seem more authoritative than the ones I've gotten from Disney, so here's my :) scenario.

I had a Magic Your Way package booked for 7 nights at Pop Century and included insurance.

My son decided to join me for 3 nights so I splurged and booked the Poly for the three nights he will be with me and then will go to Pop. I had to do the change over the phone. The computers were running slowly for the reservation agent and we were on the phone for a long time, but bottom line is,

I now have two room only reservations. I'm bummed that we lost the MYW "goodies" and that I had to give up the insurance coverage (because it's not a package) BUT they still charged me $79 for the original insurance I had. (I was refunded $200 deposit minus the insurance. ).

I've tried twice to contact Disney to ask this question:

Could I have booked a Magic Your Way package for three nights and four days at the Poly (and transferred the insurance) and then upgraded my 4 day ticket to an 8 day ticket?

And my follow up question is, at this point is there anything to do to get the best price on tickets other than when I get to the Poly to buy my son a four day and myself an eight day ticket?

Thanks, Robo. You spend a lot of time answering questions. :thumbsup2

Sorry, but I know nothing about trip insurance.

You can buy your tickets from an authorized Disney ticket discounter.

UndercoverTourist.com (HERE) is very reliable.

We've been able to change resorts and keep the same reservation # and package entitlements. Basically we modified our package. I usually let the call center CM know that I'm only making a modification so they know I don't want to cancel the whole package. Once you completely cancel the package they will refund your deposit, but not the insurance as you unfortunately found out.

Right now there is a room only special. You might look into that to see if your resort room categories and dates are included. If your trip isn't until later in the year, keep checking and if a special comes up that fits your dates you can call and see if it can be applied to your reservation.

Thanks. I don't think the change was handled the best way possible, but for now I'll hope it's not snowy on our travel days and that my son doesn't miss the luggage tags or mini golf. LOL
