Ticket question

We are a family of four and we all have APs for our fall trip. I have told the kids they can each bring a friend/friends buying just a regular ticket for our 6 park days. I will add them to MDE account so I can make our FPs/that date is approaching.

One snag. My son has a friend going. My daughter still hasn't gotten a solid yes from one. I'm wondering if I can go ahead and buy the ticket and add it to my account so I can book us all together and in the event we end up with only a party of five I can drop the one tickets fast passes and save that ticket to use at a later date.

Yes, you can. You don't really need to drop the fast passes. If the ticket is never used for admission to the park it can be transferred to another guest in the future.

Yes, as long as a ticket hasn't been used, you can reassign it on MDX.

ETA; here's the Disney FAQ page for that question; Paperless Ticket Transfer

Just FYI, if you ever do reassign a ticket to someone else that already has an AP, make sure you get whichever ticket you want prioritized for use in getting into the park. For example, let's say someone with a regular ticket cancels and you reassign that ticket to yourself. You then have an AP on your account, and the regular ticket. If you don't get the AP prioritized it is possible that they will pull a day from the regular ticket when you enter a park. Guest services outside the parks can do that for you, or if you are staying at a Disney hotel the concierge can do it as well.

I've read several people that has happened to; they have an AP and another ticket and instead of the system using their AP for entry, it pulls from the other ticket. Then they had to go fight guest services for the mistake to be corrected.

An easier way to accomplish this (with no need to make a trip to Guest Relations)
is to create a "fake name" in your MDX account and transfer that new, unused ticket to under that "fake" profile.
Since that "person" will not be going in to a park, the ticket will never be used.

In the future, when you are ready to use (or upgrade) that saved ticket,
you can transfer it to yourself (or anyone else in or connected to your MDX account.)
You can even use that saved ticket's value toward renewing an (or buying a new) AP.

Yes, I've seen that advice on Dis several times, I'm one that would never do that as I wouldn't be comfortable with it (for me the hassle is greater messing with MDX than my hotel concierge), and have never had a problem doing it the way Disney advised. I read a recent report by one member who attempted the fake account and it still pulled the wrong ticket, which just shows that everyone should check their tickets once through the gate no matter how they "prioritize" them, IMO.

I think it's great for people to have more than one option!

I don't know ... if you buy that ticket, it does have an expiration date. That's a lot of money for an "if". I think I'd tell my daughter, "You must have a firm commitment by ___, or no deal."

You don't lose the money paid toward a ticket that expires, rather you would just have to pay the difference between the expired ticket and a new ticket.

What Robo suggests is very easy to do and I have not heard of any problems doing it that way. I read the post you are talking about and I believe the problem was the poster created a "Fake Account" with her name and maybe an initial (not a Fake Name on her MDX) and then linked that account to her MDX account, which caused the problem. I am an AP holder and I have a 1-day ticket that has been sitting in my MDX under a different name for 2 years now and never have any problems with my AP being used over the 1-day ticket. Many AP posters on here with unused tickets assigned to other individuals on their accounts.

That's what I mean when I say it's good that there are multiple options. I find it a bigger pain to make sure it's done right and to deal with MDX anymore than I have to. IMO, it's easier to have Disney do it the way they advise, then if something goes wrong, it's not on me, though I'm glad there is still a work around for those that want that. I had my 10 day do not expire tickets floating around in my MDX as well as my other tickets and going to my concierge worked 100% of the time as well, so at least in this case, there are several viable options when dealing with Disney.

We have two trips planned within a year/that's why we opted for annual passes - after running the numbers it made the most sense. Our June trip next year we will be taking my niece and her three girls so I know if I don't use the ticket this time, I can use it then.
