Ticket question: Parkhoppers...

It's been a while since I've purchased parkhoppers. I'm wondering if there is a distinction between the childrens ticket and the adult ticket?

Seems to me, that when I purchased our parkhoppers way back when, they each had a different disney character, but they weren't marked "child" or "adult". At least I don't remember them being marked.

I'm wondering this because I'm wondering if a "just turned 10 year old" can get by on a kids ticket. Don't flame me...I'm just wondering. I know the whole debate about getting your over 3 child in for free. That's not what I'm asking here, so before anyone gets all uptight, all I want to know is if they really check for the kids ticket vs. the adult ticket?

If I remember right, they say "child's ticket" or something like that on the back, it's printed on it. That's what I remember from a few years back. The "just turned 10" thing shouldn't be a problem, though. When DS was 9 I bought him a 4 day hopper, it was just before AK opened. We went back several months later, he still had 1 day left on his ticket, as we all did, but he was now 10 and AK was open. We stopped at the Ocala Disney Info center and they cheerfully upgraded our tickets to include AK, and changed my son's to an adult ticket. I imagine they would do the same, upgrade the ticket, for your son. I don't see anything wrong with him using his own ticket from before he turned 10, though. But that's just MHO.

The tickets have the same character on them, whether they are an adult or child ticket. The word ADULT or CHILD is printed on them along with the price and date and other info, and of course it is electronically endcoded on the ticket. The characters are different depending on the number of days on the pass. WDW doesn't make it a habit of questioning the age of your children and requiring identification. They leave that up the honest judgement of the parents.

I've read (on All Ears, I think) that WDW doesn't split hairs over kids' ages and if you have a kids hopper that you bought when the child was 9 you can certainly use it -- or finish up unused days -- after they turn 10.

They will upgrade the ticket to an adult at no extra fee. Golden Oldie is the ticket expert. Hopefully she will stop by with the correct answer for you.

But you've already given the correct answer

Disney will convert the child's ticket to an adult's ticket for no charge. The adult ticket will have the same number of unused days on it as the child's ticket did before it was converted. You can arrange to do this at any Guest Relations/ticket booth.

Since Disney will change the ticket for free, is there any reason to have them change it at all? Why not just continue to use the same ticket? Is there any advantage to having an adult ticket instead of a childs ticket? When we were there in April, my DD had just turned 10 and we asked at the hotel about changing the ticket. We were told that we could do it at the guest relations places at the park. But then the CM told us that we did not need to bother with it anyway. That no one would question it, that the tickets were still good and that we could better spend our time going on rides, rather than standing in line to exchange something that did not need to be exchanged. So we kept the child ticket and all was fine.

That's assuming that the OP already has a child's ticket, AND that the ticket has been used.

My understanding is that they won't do the free conversion on an unused children's ticket.

When you put your admission through the readers, there's a screen on the back of the turnstile that tells the CM what sort of ticket is being used. So even though the marking on the actual pass isn't blatant, the cast member WILL know that you're using a child's ticket.

Will they call you on it? I don't know. Your own morals are going to have to dictate if you're comfortable enough to lie about your kid's age. I don't advocate that. It's dishonest. There's a reason Disney has set their limits the way they have. Mine is not to question those limits, but to abide by them. If I don't like them, then I don't have to go.
