Ticket question for a newbie

Good morning! We are traveling from the east coast and I plan on buying our tickets when we get there. Should I buy them at the hotel the morning we arrive. at the ticket booth or on line once I know we are safely in California? I want to RD Thursday morning 7am opening so I do not want to get slowed down. We will be in Laguna Beach our first two nights before GCH arrival so I could drive from Laguna to get tickets ahead of time... Thanks!

How many days will you be at DLR? If you will need multi day tickets (single park or hoppers), look at Mousesavers.com or LMT (free member codes can be found on the internet) for discounts. As long as the tickets/vouchers have a bar code, you should be able to go right to the turnstiles in the morning. (Or, if they need to be exchanged at a ticket booth, you could do that the night before.) If you want tickets for 3 days or more, buying ahead gives you a Magic Morning. Buying at the ticket booths does not come with a MM. You can buy the tickets ahead online at the DLR website, then have the tickets on your phone (take a screen shot of each bar code as a back up). Take your phone right to the turnstiles where the CM will scan the bar codes and give you a paper ticket. Then you wouldn't have to drive up from Laguna.

I can't imagine buying tickets onsite if there are still 3 or more days to a visit. The savings for multi day tickets is enough to cover at least a meal and every dollar counts at Disney! Parksavers is my first go to for tickets followed by undercover tourist and Get Away Today.

I do not want to but my tickets until I get to California because we are traveling from far away and if our plans are altered or cancelled last minute I do not want to be stuck with tickets I may not use. We are staying at GCH so we should have EE. We are planning on multiday PH tickets most likely 3 days.

Have you looked into travel insurance for the nonrefundable portions of your trip? You could include the tickets on your quote.

Just use the Disneyland app on your phone to buy the tickets. You could do so the morning of your arrival or once you are safely in California. They will scan the barcode from your phone and give you "paper" tickets at the turnstyle. DO NOT buy them at the parks or you will NOT get the MM benefit of "pre-purchase" benefit.

You might want to look at GetAwayToday.com then. Their prices are cheaper than going directly to Disneyland and they offer a Peace of Mind Plan that will cover any change or cancellation and you would likely still be paying less than you would through Disney. Also they will price match so if there are cheaper ticket prices (at something like LMT) if order over the phone. I would definitely look into them, you can book your hotel and tickets all in one package.

Staying on site?...I agree, no brainer to just buy the tickets when you check in. The front desk of the resort hotels also act as ticket booths foe resort guests...they can do almost everything the ticket windows can in regards to ticket sales.

Just know that ticket purchased at the on site hotels will be full price. Tickets purchased ahead at sites like GAT or LMT will be discounted.
