Hello

I've been used to booking vacation packages for Disney through the Disney website, so adding on tickets with room. I've never purchased tickets separately, either through Disney or a 3rd party. I'm wondering what the best approach is now that we are now DVC members. I realize there may be some 3rd party services or travel agents that may sell Disney tickets with a small discount, but are there any specific advantages to booking direct through Disney, especially considering current times with potential for cancellation if pandemic gets worse.

Anything other advise to consider? We are booked with a split stay Dec 11-17. Thanks!

Tickets are tickets and can be linked to your reservation no matter how you buy them. Do run the numbers - we found that buying through a 3rd party only saved about 5% when you figure in their fees. You can save 5% on Disney gift cards with a Target Red Card (some other places too), then buy tickets direct from Disney using the gift cards. That saved us a lot of aggravation with all that has happened.

One advantage of buying directly through Disney is that in the event something happens and changes/cancellations need to be made, you'll be dealing with Disney directly. If purchased through a third party, Disney knows that and will not deal with you. You'll have to work through that third party who may have very different policies from Disney. Personally, I'd rather work with Disney if there's an issue.

I almost always purchased from 3rd party vendors and never had a problem dealing with ticket upgrades or changes directly with Disney. The 3rd party vendors were also great about issuing refunds for MNSSHP when it was cancelled.

However, I’ve been able to acquire Disney gift cards in the range of a 10%-12% discount as of late and that makes it more affordable to buy directly from Disney than to go thru a ticket broker. It takes time and a few extra steps but the difference is enough to cover a few nice meals while we’re in Disney.
