Can a ticket guru clarify the cost of upgrading those snazzy 7day hoppers I bought to an AP? Just need accurate Disney Math. Was planning on upgrading to AP's on APril 17th then I was NOT going to and now I am back to thinking it may be a good idea depending on cost. 3 adults and I bought the Parksavers super deal last summer. @Robo ? @ravenclawtrekkie ?

When I finally figured out that CAA was the Auto Club, I edited my answer.
CAA is a third party ticket reseller, and those are the kind of tickets that CAN generally be price-bridged.

Stay tuned.
Thanks. My husband just asked if its better to buy the smaller, 4 day ticket to bridge or the larger 10 day ticket. A four day is $256.60 incl tax. The ten day is $319.50.

I'm thinking better to get the ten day in case this doesn't work. Would you advise buying many of these Canadian discounted tickets for future use or is is silly to hold tons of tickets?

Stay tuned indeed... here's a disturbing post to keep an eye on. Although this may be standard "find a CM that can do it" but certainly worth a pause.

The problem with those scenarios of rogue CMs saying you pay the difference between what you paid to the third-party vendor and the ticket you want, is Disney doesn't HAVE the price you paid to the third-party vendor. Disney only has access to what the third-party vendor paid to Disney (which is considerably less than you paid the third-party vendor).

Yup.
The untrained and/or intractable "rogue CM" is the fly in the ticket upgrade ointment.

Don't worry about the LENGTH of the discounted ticket intended for upgrade.
You want to do the math to see which of the tickets offer the best SAVINGS over the full-gate cost.

That way, when you do the upgrade the price-bridge will allow you to "keep the savings"
while getting to buy the AP.

The other side of this is that if the advance-purchased intended-for-upgrade discount ticket is the only ticket that you have in your MDE account, you will only be able to advance-book FP+ for the number of days on your ticket, even if your trip will be longer than that.

Interesting. Dh will potentially have a shorter ticket than me and the kids. Could make for a tricky time with fast passes. Added to that our trip is seventeen days long.

I hope this isn't the case going forward.

I had this happen a few years back, so this is not a new problem. I had a CM and a supervisor at EPCOT only willing to give me the price that Undercover Tourist paid to Disney for the value of a ticket. I finally found a CM who would give me the correct value of the ticket toward an upgrade.

Hope this issue is an isolated untrained CM, and not the norm going forward.

Can someone fill me in please on these ticket price increases?

1. We have a package we booked over Thanksgiving weekend - the price wont change, correct?

2. Is there anything 'bookable' or even mentioned with regard to the express pass? We're about to pay off our package balance by the end of this week so hoping I can get everything on there (such as express passes) that we want to beforehand.

Re: question #1 you are safe from any price changes once you booked. Only way price increases is if you need to rebook your trip.

Thanks Robo. I thought the CAA ticket might be unavailable for bridging. I'm going to give it a try though.

Upgrading then would involve paying the difference between the $300 and $559, in other words, full price?

This topic has been discussed at length over on the Canadian boards. There has not yet been a single report of someone successfully bridging one of these tickets, even after obtaining from a reseller (CAA or Air Miles).

Still possible. Maybe those who have not been able to price bridge (including at least one person who upgraded an Air Miles ticket to an AP) just didn't push hard enough, or got the wrong CM. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'd love to hear a different answer. As it currently stands, once the promotion ends *any* upgrade to a ticket, even to add a day or add hoppers, means losing all benefit of the discount.

This is what I'm afraid of. Disney said yesterday that CAA buys tickets in bulk in advance so they are definitely a third party reseller. If it works out it will be wonderful. If not, I've still gotten a good sale on my January tickets, just no parks for me in October.

you're right, CAA is an authorized reseller. the 'problem' isn't with them, but with the current discounted tickets for canadians. like mab2012 says, the tickets are discounted pretty heavily (i think i saw someone say that with the exchange and the bump in regular ticket costs yesterday that it's a 32% savings). when you buy the tickets you get an exchange voucher, not an actual ticket. so unlike discounted tickets from UT or something, disney will know the rates paid for the vouchers are much less and won't bridge the gate price.

Just a few observations that I don't think I've seen yet in this thread (but it's a really long thread, so I apologize if I missed any of this):

1. I think it used to be true that "adding a day" after 4 days was $10. Now it looks like adding the 5th, 6th, and 7th days are $20 each, and 8th-10th remain $10. (Of course the base cost of the 4-day has gone up as well.)

2. A 10-day hopper is now nearly as expensive as the Gold AP. The 10-day hopper is $515, and the Gold AP is $559. If you would have also purchased Memory Maker, even the 4-day hopper plus Memory Maker comes out more expensive than the Gold AP. I know that this isn't a great comparison since the Gold AP is not widely available, but I still think it's interesting.

How's this for some "Disney Math":

Yesterday I bought one of the "7 days for the price of 4" hopper tickets from UT. I paid $419, tax included. I plan to upgrade this to a Gold AP next month. The new price of the 7-day hopper is $485. I should expect my bridged upgrade cost to be $559 - $485 = $74 + tax = $79. Therefore my total cost for the Gold AP should be $498, which is $19 less than the current tax-inclusive cost of the 7-day hopper (if purchased online from WDW)! Of course this is only possible because of the combined impact of a decent discount from UT along with the hefty increase at WDW... but still.

3. If it is true that third-party reseller tickets will continue to be price-bridged, and it is also true that expired tickets retain their value towards the purchase of a new ticket, then it follows that an expired ticket purchased from a reseller should be exchangeable for the same ticket at zero cost (at least as long as the same ticket is still available for purchase - and if it's not, I'm not sure how they bridge it). Thoughts?
I priced it our of curiosity. Our Gold AP renewals cost about the same as a 9 day park hopper with memory maker. So, even if we only visit for one 10 day vacation, it would be cheaper to have the Gold APs.

I see what you are saying. Exchange certificates versus tickets. Can I turn in my certificate for a ticket without activating it?

If anyone can suggest the best GS window to go to to handle the upgrade I would be grateful. I know sometimes it's hit or miss.

ETA: I totally meant to post this in the ticket sticky. I need coffee!

I usually go to the GS window on Main St. I tell them to tell me how much it would be to upgrade first, so I know they are doing it correctly.

I hope it works out for you! I strongly considered doing this next month with a 5-day base ticket from Air Miles, but decided to go with the more predictable option of a discounted ticket from UT. I'll hold the existing ticket for now.

Please do come back and let us know if you're successful, even if it's months from now. :)

My pass is due for renewal and I've been trying to sign in the last couple days but the site isn't working. I'm curious as well if this jumped too. I'll be so upset since I could have done it sooner but when the site was down I figured no big deal because I have until next month.
I'm up for renewal too...... waiting on tax return. Also having trouble with the site..... as usual!!
But I haven't seen the "new" renewal price either.... hopefully that didn't go up... or if it did, hopefully less than $20! With last years increase it's gotten way too expensive!
