Ticket material...

This may seem silly, but I'm going to ask anyways...

I just received our 10 day hopper tickets from Undercover Tourist. They make a point to check the tickets carefully prior to removing them from the plastic (no refunds once plastic is opened.)
Looking closely at the tickets, they seem to be made of some sort of cardboard material. If they are, I question how durable they'll be (especially if they get wet).
This is in contrast to the plastic ones we purchased in the past from the Disney Store.

Should I worry about them? They have to last for 3 trips.

I appreciate any input the members here can give.

They are actually a mylar type material, very durable. If they were to wear out or get damaged, guest services can always print up new ones with exactly the current info on them.

They are made with tyvec. They are very durable. Just make sure to make copies of the back of your tickets. That way if they are lost they are very easily replaced. Take a copy of the tickets with you to WDW and leave a copy at home.

Are you staying onsite? If so, I believe you can have your tickets transferred to your roomkey if you're concerned about the durability of the tix.

However, if you do have them transferred to your room key be prepared for problems with getting FastPasses. I overheard a CM at Kilimanjaro Safaris in March '06 telling a guest that 80% of their problems with the FastPass machines are with guests using the plastic tickets.

The "cardboard" tickets are remarkably durable. If they weren't then one would wonder why Disney would use that same material for Annual Passes which get far more use than the MYW tickets.

The Tyvec tickets are actually better than the hard plastic cards. The hard plastic cards tend to demagnetize more often than the Tyvec, and the plastic cards can also crack easily, all of which would require you to get the card replaced.

The Tyvec tickets are as tough as the hard plastic, but more flexible. Their magnetic strips demagnetize less often than the plastic cards, too.

Those puppies are tough as nails.

If you're worried about getting your passes wet, you might try buying a protective neck wallet, like this one from WalMart for $0.97

If they are made from Tyvek, then they are plastic (Tyvek is 100% polyethylene fibers).

I don't know where some of you got this information, but thanks for sharing!

We have tried to tear some of our old passes and found we couldn't. The image begins wearing off withing a year but they haven't torn yet.

Does the side with the important information wear off? If so, that worries me, because I'll want to use the tickets again a few years down the road.

I have had two Tyvec annual passes, both of which were used for three trips and 17-18 park days, and neither gave me any trouble - the printed info is stil legible, and the magnetic strips never demagnetized.

All you have to do is keep the Tyvec tickets in a wallet or neck lanyard that protects them from moisture and abuse, and they will be fine.

Don't worry, as PP's have mentioned they are very sturdy. I recommend making a photo copy of the back in case they are lost or something does happen to make thim hard to read. If you have the copies they can be replaced. If you do notice a rip or one ticket starting to fade and are worried just take it to guest relations and they will replace it for you.

I have had an Annual Pass (paper) for many years and nothing has ever happened to it. My dd's however had plastic MYW tickets from the Disney Store last trip and we had problems with them. My youngest ticket did not work in the FP machines and my oldest had trouble at the turnstyles.

I went to Guest Relations and had them switched to paper and never had a problem after that. The CM did mention that they have alot of problems with the plastic tickets.

HTH
Have a great trip

Does anyone know if you have a package (Room and tickets), can you seperate your park tickets and ask for a paper type ticket? Or do the tickets have to go on your room key?

I'd like to know this also.
Now I'm worried about getting fastpasses.:(

The cards are very durable. As an AP holder, I use the card constantly--to get into the parks, and then to get fast passes through out the day. I have never had a problem with them.

All of the blank "ticket media" at the resorts will likely be hard plastic (that's the kind of ticket/key "machines" they have.)

If you take your room key(s) to Guest Relations at any of the parks or DTD, they SHOULD be able to print new tyvek ticket(s) with the same privileges for you and at the same time "cancel" the ticket privileges of your room key(s).
I've not done this, but I've had new AP's made instantly, and it would work the same way.

That said, there are hundreds of thousands of folks who have ZERO problems getting FP and entering the parks using the hard plastic tickets OR the tyvek tickets... don't worry about these things... if you DO develop a problem (very unlikely) the "fix" is just minutes away at Guest Relations.
