Ticket/Magic Band Question

Hello all. we got our 8 dph from undercovertourist.com for a july/august trip.

we are staying off property from 7/28-8/1, then moving to OKW for 8/1-8/9.

If the tickets get linked in advance to our magic bands through the MDE app, would I be able to go to a park on 7/31, even though our Disney resort reservation does not start until 8/1?

any help would be appreciated.

Yes. You tickets aren't tied to a certain date - you can use them whenever you want.

You don't have a package, so your resort reservation is not relevant. With an 8 day ticket, you can go to a park on any 8 days. (Multi-day tickets expire 2 weeks after they are first used, so you need to use all 8 days within 2 weeks, but that is all you have to remember).

There is nothing "on" a magic band. No specific tickets, reservations, etc. The band is only a means to access the info in your MDE account. Think of it as a key to the door of your house, and all your tickets and reservations are in the house.

So since you have tickets from UT in your MDE account, you can use them whenever you want. The band that is also linked in your account will access the ticket info when you scan it at the touchpoint.

Your magic band will read whatever you have linked to your MDX account. You don't have anything "loaded" onto the band. and if you don't have a package, your tickets are not "linked" with your room. Since you bought the tickets from a third party provider, you do not have a package. Your account will note that you have a room reservation AND separate 8 day tickets - the two are not connected because you did not buy the tickets from Disney as part of a room plus tickets package.

You can start using the tickets on any day you like. If your first use of the ticket is to enter a park on 7/31, the remaining 7 days must be used by 8/14 or they will expire.

Magic Bands simply access the "here" and "now" of each visit -- so they can be used again and again for subsequent or different visits. Eventually, they will wear out though. We were beta testers for the original Magic Band trials, and we still have those bands, but they are basically dead.

Slightly off topic, but how long are the batteries in Magic Bands good for? I bought/activated one in January 2015 and was still able to use it this past January, but will it still be workable in say February 2017?

It has been said that the batteries are good for two to three years...but it should be noted that the battery applies only to the long distance scanners - the ones that automatically upload ride photos to your account for instance. The bands should work at touch points (anyplace where you actually have to touch the band to the scanner) indefinitely.

I have an RFID chip card to get into the building at work and it has been operational for more than 15 years.

Magicbands are associated to your room upon check-in. With the new automated check-in, I suspect they only do it automatically with your newly assigned magicbands for that trip. If you bring old bands and want those activated to your room I suspect you must go to the front desk and have it done. Anyone know this?

Nope.

All of your magic bands are linked to your MDE account and can be used interchangeably.
