Ticket discounts for shareholders?

Someone told me there is some kind of discount on park tickets for Disney stockholders - is this true?

You'd probably need to own a substantial amount of shares to get a discount, probably enough to sit at the Board of Directors and if you are, you probably won't care about any discount.

Thats what I was thinking.

How many shares do you need to get a discount? You can go to oneshare.com and just buy 1 share and now you are a stock holder.

According to mousesavers.com, shareholders get no discounts. D'oh

I didn't think so, but someone told me they read that there's a 15% discount on all things Disney when you're a shareholder. I am not a shareholder, but the someone owns some Disney stock and were asking me, their Disney "expert" friend (lol) cheapest ticket options. I directed them to UT, but then asked me about the shareholder discount. I said I didn't know a thing about that but that I would ask all you fine folks.

Thanks for confirming. I too thought it would be silly since it's true, one share of stock then makes you a shareholder. And that wouldn't make sense.

... but I knew someone who owned a substantial amount of Disney stock and he received information on how to purchase tickets directly with some of his financial information about the company. This was several years ago but I would imagine that if one is entitled to purchase 'shareholder' tickets, they would have easy access on how to do so.

Until about ten years ago shareholders were automatically members of the (now-deceased) Magic Kingdom Club. Other free memberships were provided by organization. Paid memberships were also available.

This got about a 10% discount on tickets and merchandise, and about 20% discount most of the year on rooms.

Ah the good ol days!

Although technically not a discount, if you own stock, you could consider the annual dividend as a discount of sorts on your tickets... or room rates... or meal prices...

whatever you want a discount on.

Yes, I can remember calling and asking if there were any stockholder discounts available on rooms, or Magic Kingdom Club discounts on rooms. I was disappointed when they stopped both. I don't get any discounts for being a stockholder - just some pretty certificates and the knowledge that I own at least a piece of grass on the lawn when I'm there, lol!

Unless you own a lot of stock, the dividends won't amount to much toward your tickets either. I have a few shares and my dividend check won't buy a tank of gasoline, let alone an admission ticket to WDW.
