Does Disney offer Military discounts for retired military and their families?
If so, what is the easiest way to get the tickets if they no longer live near a military base?

Military, active duty, retired and Reservist can get a military discount on tickets. The local MWR/ITT office should have them and I believe they can be purchased at SOG. If they don't live near a military base I'd suggest calling SOG and see about getting tickets there when they arrive.

Although I haven't done it, I understand you can go to SoG and buy the special military-rate tickets.

If your travel takes you by a military base, you can go to that base's ITT/MWR Ticket Sales office and often find Disney tickets for retail, but without tax (a 7% discount over the ticket window). If you're driving, consider driving thru Tampa and stopping at MacDill AFB; their ITT office is in the main BX/Commissary complex.

Check out Cheshire Figment's great thread on all things ticketing...

Hi LoveThatMouse,

Will you be staying at SOG? If so go to the ticket sales desk and purchase them there. This is based on something I read a while ago about retired military SOG reservations and discounted tickets.

I hope this answers some of your question,

Super.

Thanks All....
We'll actually be staying offsite with extended family....
Grampa is the HERO in our family and has been retired for many years :goodvibes and he was curious if he can buy tickets for everyone? If so, is there a limit to the number he can purchase:goodvibes ? and does anyone know pricing for a 3 day park hopper?

Thanks for answering.:goodvibes

Retired military can purchase tickets at SOG even if you are not staying there. If you are staying at a Disney hotel on property you can even buy their "Stars and Stripes" length of stay ticket which is the best deal on tickets. Here is a link to their website page on purchasing tickets at SOG.

I think even if you are not staying at SOG or a Disney hotel you can still buy Magic Your Way tickets there at a discount.

Your Grandfather would be able to buy tickets for the entire family at the military rate (and without tax) but there may be a limit to how many Stars & Stripes tickets he can purchase. A few years ago my DH when we bought our S&S tickets he had a limit of four S&S tickets that he could purchase. The discount on MYW tickets will only be about $3-10 dollars per ticket but you will save on tax. HTH

DISNEY does not, but any MWR/ITT office has them, as well as SoG. as long as the authorized recipient( Gramps) is present at SoG, anyone can physically purchase the tickets.

If they are staying off-site they can't use the S&S tickets, they are for SOG or Disney hotel stays. If they are off-site I think they would have to buy the MYW tickets.

You can go to SOG to buy your tickets even if you are staying off property. Just tell them at the ticket gate into MK that you are going to SOG. They will send you through without paying to park. When you get to the security gate at SOG just tell them that you are there to buy tickets. They will give you a pass to get into the parking garage. Whoever is buying the tickets will need a military ID and should be able to buy them for everyone. My brother paid for his own tickets with his credit card, mom just had to be with him and show her ID. So you should be able to do it either way. You can go to the SOG website for ticket prices. www.shadesofgreen.org, If you have any questions you can pm me. We've gone 3 times in the last year and half.

When you say retired from the military do you mean after a 20 year career or a 5 year tour? My brother in law was a Marine and served during the first Persian Gulf War. When his 5 year term was over he got out of the Marines.
Is he eligible for the discount tickets? His family is planning a trip for next June and I don't think he knows about this? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

May I add that: hope I can word it all right......
if you are presently in the military, been in the military and are a veteran and/or retired, you can go(with your military ID) to any base that has a MWR/ITT and buy discounted tickets without the taxes.
We buy are tickets through our local base all the time, saves from standing in the ticket line also saves on taxes, plus you save a little. Not sure about all ITT's, but if there is a certain ticket they don't have right there, they will order it for you, you pay them and they will have it sent to your home. Had that done before to!
Also from what I understand DOD can also buy tickets(someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Just a extra note: you can buy other tickets to other places not just Disney through your base MWR/ITT, just check to see what they have different MWR/ITT's sell different tickets.;)

Unless you have a DOD ID card, the only time you can stay at SOG with less than retired status, is Jan and Sept. This link http://www.shadesofgreenvets.org/home.html will give you detailed info of qualifications. I would imagine the only time a non ID carrying person can get tickets at SOG is during those times as well, because you have to show the ID card to get them otherwise.

Retired normally means a person who has served the minimum 20 years required.

From disneymilitarysales.com - "Retired and active Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reservists and Department of Defense personnel please call either of these two phone numbers for contact information on your nearest ITT/ITR retail office that will help plan your next Walt Disney World military vacation:

Air Force Central Ticket Program: 210-652-2855
Commander, Navy Region Southwest: 619-767-6000"

It also appears that the person eligible to purchase tickets through the MWR/ITT office can purchase tickets for up to five family members.
