I have 2 days left on a 4 day hopper purchased last year. Next week I am going back and would like to upgrade this to a 3 day hopper. When I do that, are they going to credit the value of the ticket as it was purchased then (approximately $200) or are they going to give the credit as the value of a 2 day hopper purchased now? I e-mailed Disney with this question and I received an answer that really did not answer the question at all, or maybe I just didn't word it very well. Thanks for any help!
 
They give you 1/2 of the original purchase price. Basically the unused amount based on your purchase price. (At least that was my experience)
 
When I spoke to someone last week, I was told you have to upgrade to greater than the original ticket. Pretty sure they understood me and this is to avoid having people lock into the new "lower prices"
 
They should give you the money-value of those two days as you originally purchased them, not as two days of park time. Your original purchase price is encoded on the ticket, so you should get $100 in credit if the 4 days cost you $200. This is assuming the tickets have not expired, in which case you'd be out of luck.

It's worth doing the math on adding the day vs. just buying another 1-day ticket. If you'll be going back, it might even be worth buying a 10-day non-expiring ticket to use 1 day now and have 9 left for your next trip(s).......
 

I tried doing this at the Marketplace Guest Services and the CM told me not to bother because the monetary value will not be there. He said that it was more beneficial to just use the tickets than to trade them in. The CM said that they depreciate like crazy once they have been bought. Now I don't know for a fact that this is a true story or not, but he told me that he had a man come in with a day remaining on his PHP that he bought sometime within the last 5 years and when the CM swiped the pass the value of the pass was 1 cent. After hearing that story I just decided to use the passes when we go without AP's.
 
They take the value remaining on the ticket for the unused portion, which in many cases can be very low.

You are better off saving those days, and buying a new MYW ticket for any remaining days in your trip.
 
The remains of old tickets are best used as-is on a vacation when you don't need to buy new tickets but also well used as-is on any 2 or 3 day vacation.

Since you wanted a 3 day pass that suggests a 3 day vacation. If on one of the days you can get by without hopping, the third day will cost $65. and you use the old pass as-is for the other 2 days. Otherwise a new non-expiring 3 day pass costs $193. with $37. more for hopping versus $100. trade in value.

You may consider buying "more ticket" than you need this time (7 and 10 day non-expiring are the best bets for this purpose) so that next time you can live on leftovers.

The perceived value of a partly used ticket (more than 14 days from first usage) is quite low also because when you perform the trade-up you must purchase non-expiration on the new ticket. Meanwhile non-expiration is undesirable for a ticket that will be fully consumed in one vacation.
 
Not sure if this will help you, but I wanted to post how my upgrade was handled last week. We had 4-day MYW hoppers as part of our MYW package. Package was discounted (code was out when we booked); since the TA gave me a total amount, I'm not sure if my tickets were discounted or just the room portion. Anyway, we upgraded to 10 day premium (including the plus pack and non-expiration). They (Pop concierge) didn't look at my info to see how much I paid for my tickets. They had a chart that showed how much each extra day cost, added those together, and added on the $45 for the plusses and the $100 for non-exp. The total upgrade cost me $178 and a few cents! So, in actuality, the extra 6 days themselves were next to nothing; most of the price was the non-exp and the 5 plusses. That will cover a couple more trips.

I just have to make sure I save my room card as that's what the tickets are on. They gave me some printouts w/ numbers in case I lose the cards. If I lose both the printouts and the cards, i am out of luck as that's the only way they can look up the tickets. So I've got to find tow good, safe places that I won't forget about to put everything (they said to keep the cards and printouts separate just in case).

FYI, I save the numbers in a word document and in my paranoia, email myself and usually my sister (if she isn't with me) the day before I leave. This way, when the ticket is left at a fast pass machine :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 I call her to get the number before going to guest services
