Ticket activation before hotel stay, no longer an option, right?

Ok, I think I know the answer to this question but I am going to double check. If I were to have a package booked with a TA, (not to be named) and the dates for the hotel stay would be like April 4-6th, I wouldn't be able to use the tickets that came with the package before April 4th, right? Like starting on March 31st? They would be convention tickets.

You should speak with your TA. Convention tickets are subject to different rules than tickets sold with traditional WDTC packages. If you really need tickets to cover 4 days prior to your check-in, I would seriously consider simply purchasing separate tickets (perhaps from a third-party seller to get a discount). Even if you can get the convention tickets released early, you won't be able to make FP+ for March 31 - April 3 until you are onsite and the tickets are, hopefully, released to you.

Is this a Disney package or separate Convention Tickets bundled with a room via your TA?

If it’s bundled tickets that aren’t date-based, you can use them early.

They are convention tickets and they are good for 14 days. But I am not going to even try it, I feel like I could be setting myself up for disaster with my fast passes. I will leave be.

Then you’ll be missing out on pre-booking FPs for those days prior to your Resort Stay.

Ok, I am sooooo confused, but that is OK cause I am just going to stick with my current plans.
Hiro was saying that the FP system won’t let you make FP for days you don’t have tickets to enter the parks. So assuming the only ticket entitlements you have on your MDE account were these convention tickets and it allowed you to make FP you’d be able to use those tickets to enter the park those days. With the new date based tickets you can only make FP for the dates tickets are good for (ie the days you select when you purchase them). However with your hypothetical situation it sounds like maybe you already had tickets you were looking to hold onto and buy new convention tickets for the upcoming trip. If that’s the case old tickets (from before the new date based tickets) will allow you to make FP for any day up until the expire (or non expiring tickets will let you make them in perpetuity)

Ok, here is the layout. I have one night at POR with the convention tickets, then four nights at SSR with my DVC. I was thinking about doing two nights at POR but it was not possible with scheduling for ourselves to add a day on early. So I thought about just doing those two nights at POR after my stint at SSR. So the package at POR with the tickets would be needed to be used before we actually stayed at POR. But I am going to just leave it at one night at POR at the beginning of the trip.

The convention rooms and convention tickets are not a Disney package, so you should be able to use them before your stay. But, I would ask your TA just for peace of mind.

With all of your trips this last year, I’m surprised you don’t have APs!
This last year? Well last time we went was in June of last year and it was just a water park trip mostly. We didn't do any theme parks. Landed two nights in AKL-CL with my DVC points so we pretty much stayed there for two days, that was so awesome.

Right they are a different type. But I am just going to stick with what I got.
