That's because the ride had nothing to do with the movie at all. The Br'er Characters have been folktales for a VERY long time. The ride was about Critters finding their happy place - I've seen Song of the South many times, because I am in Australia It is available here.
The ride had nothing to do with the movie, except it featured a song from it basically - the story has been around for decades before the movie was even made. I have the books of it from my childhood.
No point debating it now, what is done is done. Just glad I can still ride it at Tokyo because they have no plans to remove it.
