We returned from our trip about 9 days ago and had a wonderful time! I will say that sickness is going around and (happily for us) we caught a stomach bug on our last day there. Our 19 month old got it 3/4 into the trip. He threw up one time in the middle of the night in his pack n play. I called the Disney hotel where we were staying and asked them to send up a new pack n play. It was 12:45 at night. To make a long story short, they never brought us a pack n play until much later the next day. I really wish I had brought an extra sheet for my baby. He had to sleep in the pack n play with throw up in it. The best I could do was to lay down towels over as much of it as possible.

Fast forward two days and our other two kids got sick in the middle of the night. There was vomit everywhere! I asked for extra towels and extra sheets prior to them getting sick, just trying to be prepared. I would suggest that for everyone. Disney did not provide good service in the middle of the night. I was able to make a "bed" of towels next to the toilet for my son who had to get up repeatedly to throw up. Also was able to use the extra sheets for my daughter since their bed was unusable.

I felt really bad for the next family who had to use our room because I doubt that the maids thoroughly cleaned all surfaces. After our experience, I will always bring Lysol wipes with us to our hotel to wipe everything down.

One other thing, I rarely found a highchair on Disney property with a working seat belt. My 19 month old is very active and several times almost fell out of the highchair. It drove me nuts to not have a seat belt to buckle him in. Be Our Guest was the only exception. Some places also seemed to have a highchair shortage and our baby had to eat in his stroller a couple of times.

Just a heads up to people who are headed to Disney with kids....

FYI....chlorox wipes do not kill stomach virus. Only bleach/Lysol III spray or chlorox hydrogen peroxide wipes.

We've been there! A couple years ago our daughter got sick in the middle of the night. I washed what I could out of the sheet and blanket and rolled it up in a ball in the corner and we all went back to sleep. The next morning, we warned the housekeeper what had happened and what needed to be done. We got back to the room that night and NOTHING was done...we got a bag on our door with some towels and a "sorry we missed you" card! WTH! So we had to call housekeeping that night and another housekeeper had to come and do the job of the one we had told in the morning...I felt horrible for her. She had to make both beds, garbage, everything. I kept apologizing, but she hardly spoke English. Sad experience. Last year, our little one was teething with 3 molars coming through at the same time...he puked a few times, twice on me. :( Sickness happens anywhere, sucks it happens while on vacation... :sad2:

OP--so sorry about the illness that caught your family. It's been going around here.

DD got sick on our trip in 2010. She was older and so we didn't have the pack-n-play issue. But I must say, we had some pixie dust from the staff. First, at Crystal Palace. Right away, we told our server so they could ensure the bathroom was cleaned. She wiped up the bowl, but you never can tell. I stood near the door and watched them go in with all the cleaning material. The next day, housekeeping came to the room and I told them she was ill. They came with linens, trashbags, gloves and disinfectant...most of the items were left for me to use. (I didn't want them to come in to the room.)

January 2013, three out of the four us were very sick on the middle of our trip. I believe we all had food poisoning since it hit us unexpectedly and all three of us at the same time. The one member who did not get sick was my 2 year old who did not eat what we had. And within 12 hours we were all feeling better. During the time we were all getting sick I had called for extra sheets, blankets, and for a carpet clean and the cast member at the front desk was amazing. After she sent housekeeping up she personally came to see how we were feeling bringing a gift for my 7 year old to snuggle with and coloring activity and crayons for my 2 yr old to keep her busy whole mommy, daddy and no sister were under the weather. She also checked on us later in the day. Everyone was so sweet.

We have had experience barfing ANd I have had experience working mousekeeping at Vero beach.

Overnight housekeeping staff is low low low--quick service pretty much never happens.

Also--those phones do not to the front desk (I didn't know this for our barf fest).

Our vomit happened on one of the beds at Port Orleans. We did several calls. Took over an hour, but we were serviced. Sleeping in vomit was not an option for us.

For future reference, any necessary middle of the night housekeeping needs would likely be handled more quickly with a visit to the front desk who will contact housekeeping directly. Overnighters will be on radio. It will still take time as they will have to go to where linens are stored and then bring them to you.

It is unfortunate, but the Overnighters have other job tasks they are working on, so service will never be quick.

But hopeful this helps others in the future.

Thanks for the info. We were staying at the Polynesian and when I called I was under the impression that I was talking to the front desk. After I called the first time I waited an hour and still no pack n play. I called the front desk again and they said that they would try to "expedite" its delivery. Well, I waited up till 3:45 am and finally fell asleep. When I woke up at 7 they still hadn't delivered the pack n play! It was pretty frustrating.

I was so glad I had asked for extra linens before round 2 of throwing up hit us!

This was our November 2010 trip. It started when my son puked on me. He only puked once and he was 10 months old so I thought he’d just had too much milk. Until 2 days later when I started. I must have showered 5 times that day hoping against hope that my daughter wouldn’t get it; but, at 1am 2 days later, the night I finally got my son to sleep in the pack-n-play, she woke up tossing her cookies and some got on him. I changed the linens and wrapped everything up in a couple of laundry bags, cleaned up and we went back to sleep.

I so want to go back at that time of year so it is cooler and to see the Christmas lights and am considering it for 2015, but even though it can happen at any time, I’ll probably be more heavily armed with Lysol than usual because this was the one and only trip to Disney during which we got sick.

They answer as if they are at the front desk, but they are not. The best thing to do is to walk down to the front desk. Not fun in the wee hours of the morning, but still better than trying to sleep with a mess.

So why doesn't the front desk answer the phone? Is there anyone there in the middle of the night?

Calls go to a call center. I know, it's crazy. Somebody, somewhere answers your call, pretending to be the front desk, but they aren't necessarily even IN Orlando. Sometimes things go smoothly and quickly, but more likely than not, you are going to be waiting for whatever you requested. It's stupid… but if you need something, it's most efficient to walk down to the front desk.

My oldest got sick during our trip in 2011. The housekeeping staff at Poly was amazing. They had to come back twice . Fresh linens and towels.

This time, we are taking anti nausea meds along, as he now is a Type 1 diabetic. Stomach bug + Type 1 = almost always a trip to the ER for us. Not gonna happen this trip.

we went last december.. my son pee'd the bed through his pull up.. twice and puked twice once all over my and the floor, the second time all over the couch... I really hope they clean those rooms well...

I hope you notified housekeeping about what was going on.

If you go back soon there are a few threads about how to handle a child who wets the bed. From shower curtains to pads, if you do a search you can find tons of into. After the first time some sort of pad would have been in order.

2 years ago when my youngest was 9-10 months she got a stomach bug on our trip and threw up in the pack n play. I just took the sheet off, rinsed it and laid a blanked down. The next day house keeping brought us 2 fresh sheets, luckly we didn't need to use them. She did however get Dh and one of the buses on our way back to the hotel and got me just before our flight back home. I think we can almost look back and laugh about it. :)

Posters, please be aware that flying with an actively sick person is never a good idea. Not only is it bad for the person who is sick, it is inconsiderate of your fellow passengers. Plus, the gate agents at the airport can deny you boarding if they see you are sick.

Its never fun to be sick and sick on vacation (even at a magical place ;))isn't any fun.
In our experience Disney handles this type of thing well - we have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with this in the MK, at the WL, FW, DGC, and on the Cruise Line... this is over about a decade - not all the same trip (thank goodness) :goodvibes

We never have traveled sick, cause why set yourself up for trouble. But sometimes to much food, or the wrong combos of food - along with stress, heat, one to many rides on the AquaDuck, etc... well, things can go bad.

Cast members has always been helpful, courteous, and quick in helping. On the Cruise line they are obviously a bit more intense about it... not wanting something to spread. But still very nice and helpful. Lots of towels, extra cleanings of the room. At DGC we were offered DVDs for the room.

In November 2012, 3 out of 4 of us got sick. Three days in to our vacation, my DD 10 got sick in the middle of the night, probably around 12:30 or 1:00, all over her side of the bed and the floor next to it. We were at Coronado Springs, and they brought us new bedding, extra towels, made up the bed, and shampooed the floor, all within about 45 minutes of us calling. Wonderful service, and many sympathies given to my DD, who was mortified. 2 days later, it hit my DD 6, while we were at MK Harbor House, and then on the bus on the way back to the resort. Two days after that, just in time for Thanksgiving, it hit me. Luckily, I made it from AK back to the resort (barely) before I got sick! All the CM's that helped us were sympathetic and understanding, making it much easier on all of us.

I hope any people that have had family members vomit in their rooms, lets housekeeping know when they check out, out of consideration for the next family that is starting their Disney trip.
