Well, realistically, only 90 campsites. No one is booking premium campsites for $100+. It's the few 90 tent sites that are getting booked.
HOWEVER, that said, December is always a SUPER busy time at the Fort. I can't get a single weekend night. But I can get pretty much everything else during the week. 90 tent sites and it isn't sold out any weekday night of the month. I don't think it's really keeping people from using the Fort.
I think as lovers-of-the-Fort, we get our feelings a tad hurt that people use it for a "throwaway" room. As if it wasn't good enough for a real Disney stay. It's special to us. I mean, I've stayed all over and still, I find that Fort Wilderness tent sites and 2-bedroom villas at VWL are my favorite places to stay. So far, I have yet to see a Fort camper who has booked well enough in advance who could not get what they wanted.
I should have planned sooner, but we're living in Scotland right now and I had no idea we would be back in time for a Disney trip in December. It was a last minute decision. I consider booking in Sept. for a long trip to be short notice. Booking last minute for 4 days or less usually works out, but not for a 12 day trip, which is what we were wanting.
I'm not arguing that people should be booking throwaway rooms, but I think some of us Fort fans are taking it personally. We shouldn't. Heck, if I get a stay at the Fort and a bunch of people have booked throwaway rooms, that just means the loops will be quieter and I'll have the showers all to myself in the mornings.

(I usually do anyway!)
So Fort *tent* campers, we need to make sure we book well enough in advance. $61 or so for a deposit on a trip we aren't POSITIVE we'll take but might take is probably worth it. Put down deposits for the weeks you'd like to tent camp well in advance, and we should all be just fine. The only people I think this really impacts is Florida residents who might want a weekend camping.
And let's also remember that a LARGE percentage of FW campers don't actually go to the parks. It's a very popular campground for locals, as it is so nice and really top notch, as campgrounds go. Should we complain that those campers use up campsites for those of us who actually use the Fort to go to Disney parks? Probably not.
I'm not trying to argue for the practice of throwaway rooms, but I think it is a good idea to try not to let it bother us too much.

What you are not understanding is that by using a Loophole in the system you or others like you are denying people like us the joy of going to Disney. My family has 7 members. If we rented rooms we would have to rent two rooms or a suite. That is way too expensive and not our idea of fun. We are campers. We own a camper and enjoy camping at Disney. We have to economize to be able to afford Disney's extreme prices. We cook and eat at the camper to save money. Lets imagine I had promised the kids we could go to Disney for Halloween. I tried every day for three months to get a camp site but they were booked solid. We finally give up and pass on going. It further disappoints when I hear that there are empty sites everywhere. Look at it this way. 1-It denies my family the opportunity to go to Disney. 2- It denies Disney and it's share holders the opportunity to take my money. Now multiply that by say 25 throwaway sites. That means Disney conservatively looses about $500.00 a day per site on missed sales just so you can game the system and get early FPs. To finish I concede you are not doing anything illegal or against the rules. You are playing the system but I want you to know there are hundreds of people like us that you are impacting. Will you care. Probably not but at least rent a hotel room and leave the campsites alone. There are over 25,000 rooms and only 1200 camp sites.
