Throwaway room (read post #2041 or #2710 before posting)

In June, we did online check in and did not go to the resort to check in. We were able to scan our bands to get our free parking along with our family that was in a separate car. Very few vehicles hold a party of 10 so I do not feel bad for getting free parking for more than one car!

I've been wondering about this as we'll be a large party in multiple cars. Thank you for posting that it worked for you. Hopefully it will still work in 11 months.

Next year we plan to actually go camping with the kids. I hope there's availability. I keep telling my friend about the wonderful campsite at WDW. I'm beginning to be sorry I did when she tries to go and take her family and can't get a week.

:(

If I were you, I'd book now. From everything I read, it's becoming very difficult to get a campsite these days.

It's possible by next year they will have stopped this, but just in case, I'd book asap. You can always cancel if you need to. It's a shame when legitimate guests can't get a campsite or have trouble getting one for their length of stay.

Disney isn't going to stop people from booking a one night stay.

Time will tell, won't it. I'm not convinced they'll stop 1 night stays, but I'm confident they'll fix the situation where you can book one night and get benefits for the length of a vacation spent off site. That will stop the 1 night throwaways.

The only "benefit for the length of a vacation spent off site" that people get is being able to book FP+s at a rolling 60 days after their 1 night throwaway room which you've even said is a huge difference from getting to book your whole stay at 60 days from your check in. You get parking for your check in and check out day (the length of your stay) and you get MBs that they send out to anyone staying on-site because it is what is needed to get into their room.

Just started reading all this and although I am still not 100% sure as to all the ins and outs of this throw away room I do not like what I am reading.

I am not really upset with the people who are taking advantage of the system but more upset that Disney can not or will not design a system that does not once and for all close the loopholes.

If it is true that people can book a campsite and pay $50 and then get up to 10 magic bands and then get 3 fast passes per day on the magic bands and there is nothing stop one or two people from utilizing 10 magic bands then that is pure craziness and Disney is to blame.

I think it is ridiculous that Disney does not change the system if this is the case.

It is hugely different but still puts a person who is legitimately staying on site the length of their stay in competition every day with a person who is not on site. It simply isn't right.

As to the getting multiple bands- I find it beyond ridiculous that someone fills their reservation with fake names and because they use their real name followed by numbers for the fake names, that somehow those are not fake names! Its a fake name. Plain and simple and its cheating and lying. Disney clearly states you cannot use multiple bands to get more fp's.

I don't lose sleep over it either. The only way I'd lose sleep is if I did it myself. I also think eventually Disney will put a stop to it just as they always do when people find loopholes they can exploit. Its just a matter of time.

Again, most of the post with people getting throwaway rooms are not about people getting extra bands to be able to get more than 3 fps per person. How about looking up the thread discussing that and post there and lets stop giving anyone that pops into the end of this thread the idea that this is what the throwaway room is all about because for most of those that have done it, that isn't what it was about.

You're right - they are two distinct topics. Probably best to keep this thread focused on throwaway rooms and all of the perks that are not associated with a potential loophole.

Folks if this topic upsets you so, walk away.

If you feel you need to defend your booking and debate with others, walk away.

Posts that fall into either of the above will now be deleted.

Once again I implore you to play nice.

By the way discussions about others using room cancellations belong on the resorts board. Though I suspect this will not be allowed.

This thread is for folks looking for help, experiences of others regarding trip planning.

We just got back from Disney a few days ago and used a throwaway room. I just wanted to report here to those interested that we were able to get complimentary parking for the length of our stay (4 park days). We were not expecting this. The first day at Epcot the parking attendant scanned my Magicband on the way in. The rest of the days we were waved in without paying with just a wave of our magical bands. (At MK and DHS, did not go to AK) We even had our parking tag from our offsite condo resort hanging up on our rear view mirror each day. I found it interesting that the magicband got us free parking every day, since the bands have been available to offsite guests for purchase for quite some time.

Lucky you ...
Did you do the check-in online ?

Wow, I didn't even think to try checking the band at the parking stations on the days other than the check-in/check-out days. Good tip, thanks!

Hi. I've already paid for a throwaway night at the campground.

We have been many times to WDW, but this will be our first FP+ experience.

We are from Argentina and as far as I could learn Magic Bands are sent by mail but not internationally.

So, I'd really like to get the MBs and parking permit. But I was not planning to actually check in as that day we should be at DHS rope drop (nov 23rd).

We have will call tickets already linked and were planning on getting the actual tickets at DTD on Nov 22nd.

Does anybody know if the CMs at guest services (DTD) would hand us out the MBs with our reservation? Would it be necessary to do the on line check in?

Any input/tip will be much appreciated and of great help!

TIA!

Mx

You would have to check in at your resort to pick up the MBs. If you don't care about the customization you can purchase MBs.

We have two nights booked at the campgrounds but want to get to MK first thing on our check in date. When I called my understanding is that you need to check in at Ft wilderness in order to get free parking (obtain your parking pass). So I guess it depends on whether you want to pay for parking.

Cindy, I really don't care as much about the parking as I do having the FP's work. I'm nervous that if I don't physically check in to the campground, which I do not want to do, my FPs won't work.

Also, just wanted to ask....for the free parking is that just on 1 persons MB? Like maybe the person whose name is on the ressie? Or is it on every ones MB? Just wondering cause the throwaway campsite is in my name but it will be my son in law who will be driving. No big deal, just wondering if I would have to show my MB or if he could just show his.

Karen :)

We just got back from our trip Oct 1-6th. We had a throwaway campsite on Oct. 2. We did NOT physically check in at the campground. We only did the online check in. ALL of our FP's worked perfectly! We had no issues at all with using our Magicbands, FP's, or free parking. Your FP's will work if you do the online check in. No need to worry!

When it comes to parking, it doesn't matter which band is scanned. We had a party of 10 and 1 park day we got parking for 3 cars. We also did online check in and had no problem with parking, park admission or using our fp+s.
