Throwaway room (read post #2041 or #2710 before posting)

This is true. My throwaway night was on day two of our trip, and once I hit that 60 day mark, all the days before that opened up for FP as well, so I was able to make FPs for day one, which I hadn't been expecting.

the above is true for me for tickets purchased from UT and then manually linked to people who are listed in one lodging reservation.

But, I also have a second lodging reservation with tickets that were purchased as part of a package directly from Disney.....with these, it is NOT allowing me to book for the days before the reservation, once I hit 60 days out. I can book FP for the reservation days and the following days, but can't book FP for preceding days.

Seems like the rules are different, depending on whether the tickets are from a package or not?

Can you still book within 30 days? I've not heard of this before. Also, do you still have days available to book (i.e. if you have 7-day tickets, but have booked less than 7 days so far...)

Are you attempting to book before your package check-in day using the ticket entitlements in your package? Or, do you have separate, extra, ticket entitlements linked to your MDE?

If it's only ticket entitlements in the package, they are not active until the day of check-in and beyond. You can't book FPs for days preceding your check-in day when you have a package.

Ah, that is an interesting twist on the package tickets I wasn't aware of...I guess it is their way of "You can't get your package tickets prior to check in..." that they've always claimed but was never actually true...maybe it is true now?

At least for FP booking in advance. According to @Robo and others, tickets can be activated early but only when at the resort.

Then, it becomes "day of" FP booking for the early activated package tickets. It makes it seem that booking a package is a drawback in regards to pre-scheduling FPs.

You can book for those 3 preceding days starting 30 days in advance of that first "before check-in" day, then one day at a time.
(But, yes, you'd have to cancel a day of your FP+ DURING your scheduled resort stay for every day in advance of your stay you booked FP+.)

You could choose to cancel the days with the least important FP+ reservations.
Then, after you arrive and upgrade your tickets, you could re-schedule FP+ for those
cancelled 3 days worth of FP+.
(Subject to FP availability, of course.)

HI - Yes I have only booked five days of FPs...and I have six day tickets........

I just have the tickets that are associated with the package....sounds like I should have just booked the room and bought the tickets from a reseller like UT or AAA etc

Okay, just to clarify:

So I just have one day of FP+s that I haven't booked in my package (my package was for six days of tickets, and I have only booked five days of FP+s), and I want to use that sixth day for the day before check-in.

So, Can I at least book for that day at the 30 day mark?

You can try. I know on the Same Day Fastpass Thread, no one with packages confirmed the 3 days opened up 30 days before check-in. You can at least try at the 30 day mark... much better than waiting until day of.

Okay - a couple more questions:

BACKGROUND: I bought (and fully paid for) my tickets in a PACKAGE along with lodging directly on the Disney website.

1. Will I get physical tickets (cards) sent to me prior to my vacation? (I know that I'll get MBs, but how about real ticket cards?)

or do I have to pick them up when I arrive?

2. If I want to start using the tickets on the day BEFORE check-in, do I have to go somewhere to pick them up? If so, can I go to any guest relations office (like at Downtown Disney) ? Or, will my magic bands work as tickets the day before check-in.

THANK YOU - I really appreciate all of the help from the folks on this board.....(and I think Disney has created an extremely complex product !!)

I have passed this thread so many times looking over the Theme Parks board and I have a few questions and not enough patience to read through all the posts...

If you book a throw away room for one night, do you get as many days of FP+ as you have days on your ticket?

What happens if you cancel the room after you book your FP+? Do the FP+ reservations cancel themselves?

I am curious as to why Disney would allow such a loop hole (but not curious enough to read over 2000 posts!).

I have spent a lot of time recently on the camping board. I have read about how hard it is to get a campsite at FW at busier times of the year, so personally I hope that Disney finds a fix for this.

1. You will not get physical cards, just Magic Bands.
2. Not sure about this one with packages.

1. Yes, up to 10 days.
2. FP+ do not get canceled after you cancel your reservations (for now)
3. No idea
4. Never really thought about it this way, that cancelling the room may be a better option as it opens up a campsite for someone else. Always thought of cancelling a throwaway somehow unfair (not trying to open up a debate, just an observation), but perhaps I am wrong to think that way.

1) They do not give out cards unless you _beg_ for them, and then only if you refuse the MagicBands as well, from most reports.

2) That is a bit of a question right now...I haven't seen reports of anyone actually doing this recently to know how its done (I wasn't paying much attention to new threads for some time...), although it's been discussed a bit above that it should still be possible. However, you are at a disadvantage booking FP+ for days prior to check-in as it does not appear that the 60-day window is retroactive in this case, unlike when you have separate tickets registered.

You have to have the ticket portion activated at Guest Relations at DTD or at a park.

Yes.

The FP+ reservations are not canceled, but they are locked such that you can't modify them until they fall in the 30-day window, at least as long as your tickets are separate from the reservation.

Disney either doesn't see it as a problem or not one worth fixing at the moment. This has been around long since before FP+, although the use of it has changed a bit.

You can pre-book at 60 days prior for the check-in and check-out days. For the rest of the ticket entitlements, it's 60 days prior to each day of use.

This seems immoral and just plain sneaky. It makes me sad. :(

I still don't see why people think this is immoral. If you purchase something, it is your right to how it is used. If you choose not to stay there then oh well. Its like me going and buying food from the store and then I don't eat it and throw it out. Now, if there truly is a loophole where people are booking the room, booking the FP+ and then canceling the room, then I would agree that is not right. But, I have a throwaway room currently. I have booked it for the days I will be at Disney so that I could get the benefits of staying on property. There are 8 of us and it was ideal for us to stay in accommodations outside property but with a 3 year old and 6 month old, we just needed to be able to book the FP+ 60 days out. Do I plan to cancel that stay? NO, I have paid it in full and it was still worth it for me to do so and stay off property.

There is the debate about how its preventing someone else from staying there bc its empty but either way, if I had not stayed outside of disney property or with family, then I would have stayed there so it was still preventing someone else from staying there. I don't really get that argument.

Disney should offer a service where those not staying on Disney property can purchase a package that includes extra magic hours, free parking, booking FP+ 60 days out, etc. It would be worth it to them because they would make that extra money because then other guests would book the room that we would not be "throwing away".

Just my thoughts on the matter.

As far as how it works. I was able to immediately book FP+ for 30 days out once I had tickets linked to my account. Then at 60 days out, I was able to book FP+ only for the check in day and check out day for my one booking. My other booking, I had to wait until that 60 day mark to do it. It only allows the 60 days for your "stay". So if you booked 4/1-4/5 then you would be able to book FP+from 4/1-4/6. Check in being 4/1 and check out being 4/6. If you had split the stay and were staying 4/1-4/2 and then 4/5-4/6, then you would be able to book FP+ for 4/1-4/2 at 60 days and then 4/5-4/6 at 60 days. But you couldnt book 4/3-4/4 because you would not be on Disney Property at that time.
