Throwaway Dining?

We're all familiar with the Throwaway Room debate, so it got me thinking....how prevalent is Throwaway Dining?
For example, 8:05am reservations at BoG are PRIME!!!
But what if you can only snag an 8:45? You'd be at a disadvantage if you take the time to eat...
Is it possible to throw it away and deal with the $10/person cancellation fee, or are CMs guiding you to your reservation?
How is this managed?

I've wondered the same thing.

All PPO reservations are treated the same. Arrive at 8 a.m., and you'll be seated in order of arrival.

Also, ALL BOG reservations are hard to get. If you're not planning on showing up, my stance on courtesy is to not even book it and let someone who would really enjoy the experience have it.

I believe anyone who has a BOG reservation before 9am can go in as early as 8am and eat, so an 8:45am reservation has the same advantage as an 8:00am reservation. Just get there early. They probably allow this in order to discourage throwaway dining.

If it is an EMM the hard ticket Fantasyland event there is no advantage as you will not be allowed to ride SDMT prior to park opening. They line people up but since people paid for the EMM event they don’t open line early to PPO reservations.

Why throw $10 per person away when you could go, just order coffee and a cupcake and come out spending less than $10? Or just a coffee or a drink?

The only one you pay in advance is CRT. Crystal Palace, BoG, and The Plaza are all a CC hold and you're charged $10 per person for a no show.

I think only CRT needs to be paid in advance. Not the other character meals.

The only one you pay in advance is CRT.

Not if you are on the DDP, I am on the DxDP and made reservations for CRT, breakfast and did not have to pay in advance, not sure if this is new or what is going on as when I first tried to make a CRT ADR it did indeed ask for a prepayment. Was not sure if my wife would want that so I did not go ahead, then about 3 weeks later we talked about it and she was thrilled with the idea and ADR made that was not a prepay......

Ok after looking at the ADR this is what it said.....

Your reservation will be guaranteed by using your Disney Dining Plan Entitlements. Your MasterCard ending in XXXX will not be charged, unless your party fails to show up for the reservation.

So it looks like the DDP was used as a guarantee....

Akershus is a character meal, but doesn't need to be prepaid either and has PPO options at EPCOT.

What about the other parks, though?

There is no other character meal with PPO access that has to be prepaid anywhere on property. Tusker House at AK, Akershus and Garden Grill at EP, Hollywood & Vine at HS are all character meals and none of them require prepayment.

And as for the other MK restaurants, a reservation at Crystal Palace or the Plaza won’t give you an advantage....
