Through the Eyes of a Local

Last time I left you we had just went into World Showcase and were debating on eating in Mexico for dinner that night. We went over to look at the menu and decided that we really wanted to try it, but not that night, we don't really have the money to pay for a $50+ meal because we don't get our first paychecks since moving until the last business day in August, especially since we already streched ourselves thin by buying the Disney passes so that we would have something to do until we started work.

So that was the end of that, we love the way it looks like it was outside though. We rode"Gran Fiesta Tour" then left Mexico. We kept going around the world and when we got to Norway we rode Maelstrom, which was good, there was someone terrified that there was going to be a huge drop lol, she was probably 16 or so and I thought she was going to have a panic attack. After the "drop" she was like oh... :)

Saw the 360 film at China... a little long to stand the whole time IMO but it was decent. Walked through Germany, as well as Italy. Didn't stop at America, figured I could see that another time. We watched the drummers in Japan

Then we walked through Morocco. We actually really liked Morocco.

I'm thankful that the people took this picture for us, but I wish they would have gotten less of the ground and gotten the top of the tiles in the picture. Oh well

Oh and who did we see right before Morocco??

He had to leave before we got up there for pictures though

Haha I just realized it looks like I'm wearing biking shorts in that picture, rest assured-- I'm not.

Now France is where we really saw some action :)

We were starting to get hungry/tired by this time and mostly just walked past the UK and Canada, we'll see those another time (One great thing about living so close, we don't have to see everything every time).

We decided to go back and try the Electric Umbrella for dinner. We both had the bacon burger, which came with fries, but no drink, which was okay since we had been refilling out water up the whole day anyways. We did refill them with water from the machine this time though (you know how they have water spouts on the soda machines, with that).

After dinner we headed over to the:

Here are the pictures from that - It was Matt's first look at Mickey!:

I know that I'm short but that was one tall Goofy!!

It was about 7 when we finished seeing the characters. We walked over and tried our favorite soda from Club Cool. We were tired and though it was a little early to get a spot for Illuminations we went ahead and plopped ourselves down somewhere in the shade to rest, people watch and to wait for Illuminations. We had a good time people watching and even had a bird walk right up to us (we did think it was going to attack us though!) and then around 8:30, 30 mins before show time, that is when we saw it.

The sky was totally clear except one little spot, one little cloud, but that one cloud was producing lightning. It looked like it was just heat lightning but there was quite a bit of it. We were worried they were going to cancel it (though we knew it would only be for our safety). Every time they came over the speakers to say things like "Only 30 mins... Only 20 mins" ect, we thought they were going to say it was postponed.

We had a little bit of pixie dust sprinkled on us though because literally 5 mins before the start it stopped. No more lightning! Which is good because even though I thought it was just heat lightning, I'm not a fan of being outside in it! Florida is the #1 state for people being struck by it lol.

The show went off without a hitch and went wonderfully. Here is a picture. I have a short video clip of it too, but haven't uploaded it yet.
n69600715_31280540_4238.jpg

Then we fought the crowds and drove home, it actually wasn't bad getting out we got home around 10:15 with Illuminations starting at 9 (ending around 9:20ish), so not too bad on traffic. It took us about 40 mins to get home instead of 30.

We went to TL yesterday as well as DQ for a short time and I will give a report from that soon. Tomorrow we are heading to MGM (Sorry DHS). Matt is REALLY excited about this park. Then we are doing AK Thursday. We wanted to experience all of the parks before I start work on this upcoming Monday, kind of like a little mini vacation before we start our new jobs.

I see you like to end with a cliffhanger! I'll tune back in to see what happens.

Sounds like you are enjoy your passes and you will definitely get your monies worth!:cool1:

Welcome to Florida! AAAhh..... I remember when when we first bought our AP's, seven years later we still have them! We are originally from Pennsylvania and our friends and family are convinced we moved to Florida just to be close to WDW! Enjoy :goodvibes

Sorry I haven't did any updates lately! The only day I need to catch up on is our DHS day, well and I guess report on our water park day. Things have been sooooo busy with both of us starting/training for new jobs. Hope things calm down soon and I can work on getting the reports done, and hopefully head out to Disney again soon!

Sorry I haven't written for awhile, for one we hadn't been to a park for awhile (today was our first day since this day that I am writing about now at DHS), and also we have started our new jobs. Hopefully now that we are starting to get a routine there will be more Disney trips and more things to report on :)

Our day at DHS

I forgot to write up a report for our trip to DHS so I am doing it now. We went to MK today so I'll try to write that up after I write this one.

We went to DHS on August 13th, which was a Wednesday. We got there right after it opened and all of the opening excitement was still in the air. It must have been right after rope drop when we got there. We wondered in, going straight for Toy Story Mania fastpasses. We get there a little after 9 and they fast pass return time is already almost 11! As I was in line to get ours the fastpass time just kept getting further and further away. We ended up with an 11:00 time. We then headed back and the main walk way was still pretty crowded. We bared left with a semi-plan in mind, but mostly just walking. We see some of the street actors and Matt really thought that was neat! They do such a good job working the crowds there!

So we are walking towards Rock'n'Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror. The day before (I forgot to do a water park TR but we rode a few water slides that we normally would have been too scared to ride) so Matt was feeling a little daring! I'm kind of daring and have rode Rock'n'Rollercoaster before but never Tower of Terror, I hate rides that drop you like that. Welllll before I know it Matt has dragged me here:
August2008099.jpg

Yep it was only a 20 min wait and I knew if we were going to do it, it needed to be now before it got too crowded. I got so nervous! It was one of the only big Disney rides I had not rode (EE, and SM are others, EE just because I haven't been to AK since EE opened) I just kept getting more and more nervous, Matt didn't get nervous until we got strapped in.

I thought the ride before the actual drops was longer! Someone told me it was a nice long build up before you go into the up and downs. HA It was like ½ second! Next thing I know we are going up, and since I didn't expect it at first I thought we were just going up a level, and why the heck is everyone screaming! Then I realized HEY where is my stomach?! Yeah.... then I found it at the bottom – when we dropped down. It did it several times, enough times that on the last time we shot up I looked over and yelled to Matt, we're going again?!

All in all, it was okay, not my favorite but I would do it again. Especially if it meant we could get my in-laws to go on it hahaha.... I'm evil.

Next we head over to Rock'n'Rollercoaster.
August2008102.jpg

This said there was a 40 minute wait. It turned into about an hour though because they had to stop the ride or something, all I know is we just stood there for about 15 mins in the same place in line. Thankfully we had made it inside by then though. I forgot how fast that thing shoots you off though. It gives you that feeling of oh my goodness are we every going to stop speeding up?? Matt enjoyed riding it for the first time, but agreed that it shoots you off faster than it looks like. When we were standing there watching I was telling him that it goes 0-70 and he wouldn't believe me... he did after we rode it :)

Next we headed over to use our Toy Story Mania fast passes. Great Ride!!! By this time all of the FP were gone of course and the stand-by line was.... well it was this:
Picture170.jpg

If you can't see it, that says 120 mins. Crazy.

It was great, but since we live locally there is no way I would have waited in line, so we used up our fastpasses :) We will for sure be doing that one again.
August2008106.jpg

We were heading over to see the Lights Motor Action show and we saw this!
August2008119.jpg

August2008124.jpg

We then headed over and saw the Lights Motor Action show. We enjoyed it. Here is picture from the show.
August2008133.jpg

Then we sat down and had our packed lunch. Sandwhiches and 100 calorie snack packs. Oh and Applesauce.

We decided at this point to go see the Muppet 3D vision show. It is a good one, but of course not as good as my favorite Philharmagic show. On our way we snapped this:
August2008148.jpg

After that we saw the Beauty and the Beast show. It was a great show!
Picture168.jpg

Next we headed to the Backlot Tour. It was different than I remember it last time. I thought that they took you by some houses that they filmed sitcoms in? Maybe I am imagining it, but I could have swore than when we went on it in 2003 it did. Oh well, well this time they didn't.

We had planned on staying for Fantasmic that night, but we were pooped! And since we only live 30-40 mins away we figured we would go on a less crowded/hot day. We LOVE having that option.

Of course it didn't seems as crowded as we were leaving, but it was sooo stinking hot that day.

*******************
We went to Magic Kingdom today and I will be writing that report up after dinner. There is a MNSSHP tonight and I was worried it would affect the crowds, so did it? Did we get to finally ride Space Mountain? (If you remember from the first day we went we couldn't because it broke down)

You guys are so cute together! It would be great to be so close to Disney World, you're making me extremely jealous. I'll keep checking back for more about your adventures there!

Thanks! And it is great living so close, and having annual passes, if we get tired and want to leave we don't feel like we are wasting any money/time. AND we get to sleep in our own bed after a tiring day at a park :)

Today we decided to go to the Magic Kingdom. Matt had never seen the opening of the park but we could only stay until about noon. I was worried about how much we would get to do. I was worried because even though it isn't summer any more, I knew that tonight there was going to be a MNSSHP. I was not sure how that would affect the crowds, I didn't know if that meant that it would be less crowded or if that meant that everyone who was going to the party would be there.

Picture300.jpg

We got parked and we were the first people in our line waiting to get in (not THE first people, but the first people in our line if that makes sense). We got in line at about 8:30. They let us through to the viewing area of the opening of Magic Kingdom around 8:45ish. I was getting so excited, seriously the opening of Magic Kingdoms is a favorite for me. I'm not really sure why, but it makes me want to cry, maybe because in that moment I feel like there is really magic in the air and that all is well with the world, there is no pain, no suffering and only happy people.

Picture302.jpg

Picture309.jpg

ANYWAYS here are a few pictures of that. Matt seemed to enjoy seeing it for the first time. I love though how one moment I am thinking I'm going to cry then as soon as it is over I change my mentality and think, okay book it!

** Oh btw, it was the first time I have ever seen it decorated for Halloween!

So we decide to head straight for Space Mountain. To my surprise we get there before the rope drops, I didn't even remember the whole rope drop thing. We are towards the front and they finally let us go and we get to be the 3rd “space ship” to go through Space Mountain :) I forgot just how in the dark this ride is. Literally you can't see anything. Now that Matt got to ride the original I am ready for them to rehab it.

After we ride Space, we go to Fantasyland. We decide to ride the teacups. We walked right on to that one (as soon as the current people riding were done) Matt spun us way too fast and as we were walking off I was stumbling! Yeah he won't be in charge of the spinning next time... that is if I ever get on there again with him!
Picture313.jpg

After we rode the teacups it was off to Peter Pan. I remembered this being a neat ride from the last time we were there. I like how you are “flying” My favorite part of this ride is flying over London, the detail is amazing. If you've never looked before, next time look closely, they even make it look like there are cars driving on the streets. We walked on to this as well. I couldn't believe our luck!

Next we went to Snow White's Scary Adventures. I'm not really a fan on this ride, I don't know I just don't like it that much. We walked onto this was well though. No wait, in fact while usually even if there is no wait the ride wait time says 5 minutes, this literally said 0.

After the terrible Snow White we ventured over to Winnie the Pooh. I think this ride is so cute. I love the part where we you bounce :) Great ride. oh... and btw, we walked right on!

Next we went over to meet Ariel! She's my FAVORITE. The Little Mermaid is my most favorite Disney movie of all time. She was great, in this picture she doesn't even look real to me haha.
Picture315.jpg

After meeting the best mermaid ever, we decided to go on Dumbo, well because you guessed it, NO WAIT. I was excited, Dumbo is such a classic and you get a nice little view of the castle from the top.
Picture316.jpg

Picture321.jpg

This was all before 10:15. We had already did everything but one thing that I had wanted to do this morning! The only thing left that I really wanted to get done was the Jungle Cruise. So we decided to go see what Big Thunder Mountain's wait time looked like. When we got there around 10:20 or so I couldn't believe that it said a 5 min wait time. They didn't even have fastpass open if I remember right. We walked right onto the ride.It certainly took longer to walk to the ride than it took for us to get into the “Mining Cart”. We were sat towards the front/middle so we decided to ride again and try to sit more towards the back, I think it goes faster in the back hehe. So we went again with no wait.

After that we were going to see Woody and his lady friend, I can't remember her name haha, but they were taking too long.

We could see Splash Mountain from where were were standing though, and I mentioned to Matt that I've never been on it because I'm too scared (though I have rode TOT lol). He looks at me and says “Well we can go on it now if you want” which in turn I said no way Jose! I don't like water rides like that.

This is getting a little long so I'm going to write the rest in a different post.

Did we end up riding Splash Mountain? Did our luck run out with the low crowds?

So I have no clue why photobucket is making some of my pictures normal size and some gigantico

Of course you are making all of us jealous. Oh to live so close to WDW, you can just go over for the morning. We can all dream, can't we?
Keep taking your camera, I love to see pictures.
