Through Fresh Eyes...One Week Left 5/1

When it comes to hair, there's this one blog post I've read about how to choose clothes for Disney (judge if you must, but there will be a great deal of photos of this that will be lasting memories. I'd like to not be a schlump.) and I'm SO jealous of the lady who helps write it; she has this big floppy hat that does NOT look ridiculous on her, AND her hair is obviously straightened with an iron and it does NOT get frizzy.

WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?

Still though, congratulations to her.

I must find that blog post!

My sister was going through old pictures and she decided that her hair looked great on two of our old trips ... I'm like, yeah, my hair rarely looks great at Disney. We have one or two pictures from last year where it looks nice ... and I'm not looking at the camera.

I don't know how people look perfect at the parks. I suspect some sort of magic must be involved, or a deal with the devil. If you find the secret, please share!

Here you go!

It gives the impression that everyone would seem so flawless in a floppy hat, yeah?

Your plans look good! Tusker house, H&V, chef Mickey, 1900--all great choices! I hope you get your Star Wars meals! I've seen a few pictures and it looks so fun!

I'm being lazy...remind me of your dates again. There is a slight chance I'll be there in May.

Right? Jedi Mickey and Goofy Vader just make the whole event for me, and that's solely judging from the pics I've seen!

OMG...I'm trying not to get my hopes up. It would kind of make my day, though.

May 9-17th...I think. I know we fly back on a Monday. I presently cannot recall if that's the 17th or 18th.

Link's not working, but I think I found it by googling "what to wear to disney"

Because yeah, when I wear a floppy hat like that it looks totally glamorous and not at all like something big just took over my head.
Also, I can always get away with wearing really long hair down and have it look perfect and not at all frizzy.

And as someone who wears dresses a lot, I have to assume that all of her pictures are taken in the morning, because after a day at the parks, I can't imagine a dress wouldn't be at least a little creased/crumpled/showing signs of having been worn.

*in her best faux french accent* Mai oui, of course, daaaahhhling, floppy hats are tres chic, only everyone is wearing them, daaaahhhhling.

::yes::

Seriously, while I think it's wise to wear one, I think looking fashionable in one would take more magic than even Mickey himself may be capable of.

Darn...I get there May 3 and fly home on 8th

Well, I called my Mother In Law today to tell her what Squeaks wants for Christmas. She and have this gift of gab, though, and we started out talking about the guitar she asked for and somehow we ended up on the topic of Disney planning. We had already discussed her coming but she didn't originally think it was a good idea. After talking today, though, she wistfully said "ohh that sounds like it would be so fun." To which I replied "Well you can still come! I can book a Family Suite for a weekend and you can come!" I told her what our plans were for the first few days, and sure enough....

Please allow me to introduce Terry and Jackie, my FIL and MIL. To be fair, we've had some serious issues in the past. For the last year or two, however, we've been doing a great deal better. It's not without effort on everyone's part, but even though I dread visits, I've enjoyed them every time. Surely at Disney, I won't assume she's judging my housekeeping, right? This will be fun. And she'll get to see Squeaks' first Mickey and Minnie meet, and watch her feel like a Princess. Who wouldn't love that?
Alas, neither of them identify a favorite character. I honestly think that if I had to choose favorites for them, my MIL's would probably be Mary Poppins and my FIL....maybe Sleepy. It suits him. He regularly passes out on my couch when they come over. It's a thing. So far their only trip request involves the Kitchen Sink sundae. I can totally make that happen. :D

Now, this means some rearranging was necessary. (Are you sensing an overall theme with my PTR yet?) I called the reservation people again (at some point I'm sure I will have spoken to everyone who works there). I scheduled, complete with Military Discount, a non-assigned-theme Family Suite at AoA, meaning they'll assign us a Suite based on availability when we arrive. I have my fingers crossed for Lion King or Nemo. Squeaks' grandparents will fly in the same day we do, and leave on Tuesday the 12, leaving us from the 12-18 for our small family trip with a reservation for a Preferred room at POP Century.

I also made Jackie promise to watch Beauty and the Beast when she comes over for Thanksgiving; she only had boys and so she's never seen it, and I NEED A PHOTO OF GASTON FLIRTING WITH GRANDMA IN MY LIFE.

How exciting that your in-laws are going to come share the trip too!

Sounds so much like my MIL and myself it's scary. Hope it all works out wonderfully smooth for you all. :thumbsup2 I'm sure it will be extra special for Squeaks to have so much family around!!

Yeah, I'm actually genuinely excited to flex my Disney fan-nerdness and plan the trip for everybody a bit. It's the first time that I've been allowed to plan a family event they were involved with. (There was an awkward forcing of their older son's to not let me plan my own wedding. The results were pretty disastrous. Let's not think on such things...) For me, I will truly enjoy wowing them with my planning skills. Also, once we're there, I know that with Mickey and Minnie and rides and Squeaks being called "Princess," there should be plenty of new, fun memories being made that we hopefully won't be able to dwell on the old, less pleasant ones.

I'm glad things are improving with your in-laws, too! (PS-I think we were both commenting on each other's threads at the same time, LOL!)

Yay for your inlaws joining. :cool1: At least this time when you called to change your reservation it wasn't your fault. :lmao:

Your brave to share a family suite with them. Not sure that would work for my family. We all need a bit of space to call our own when we get tired.

Ahhh, you are wise to consider such. As it is, it saves money for them to use my mil discount, we get to swim in the awesome pools at AoA, I'm a night-showerer and they're morning shower-ers, Aria will bathe earlier than the rest of us "retire," basically I don't think there will be fights over the bathroom. I'll just make sure to bring a mirror I can set up on the table so we can both do our beauty things at the same time without crashing into one another; no problem. Also, they're welcome to have the room with a door in the suite, and then we'll be in the bigger room with Squeaks, which works out nicely for everyone. It's still easy enough to partition off the space if anybody needs a breather.

Also...proximity to the pool bar can only be seen as a positive. ;)

Wow, things just never stay the same for you, do they?

I think it will be really nice for Squeaks to have her grandparents on her first Disney trip. I remember a lot of trips that I took with my grandparents as a kid (never to Disney, more local stuff), and they're always nice memories.

Hopefully this will be the last of the changes ... (I know, wishful thinking!)

I hope we're done changing things, too! This is nice, though, I feel a vague sense of security and permanence this time...possibly because once I start making ADRs I'm NOT TOUCHING any reservation, I want everything clearly and assuredly linked so that things can go as smoothly as possible. AoA and POP...based on DIS reviews of Value Resorts, I think I'm doing as best as can be hoped for.

I think Squeaks will enjoy it, too. She'll love the attention, and I'm almost certain Grandma will spoil her rotten.

:yay::yay::yay: for Grandma and Grandpa coming to enjoy Disney with Squeaks. And :thumbsup2 on getting the suite.

Poor MIL, having never seen the wonderful Beauty & the Beast!!

Um, hi. Your PTR plans so far looks so awesome it almost makes me want to pick up watching first timers as a hobby or something. I'm completely amazed you can make dresses (and out of such fun fabric!) I'll go back to lurking now.

Awww, hello there! Thanks for saying I'm doing well! I think my childhood trips at the Land are helping by serving as a primer for the World. Also, I over-think EVERYTHING. I'm actually going to get to work on dresses today! After we see Big Hero 6, that is. :)
I hope you'll stick around! ADR day is Monday, after all.
