Just booked with Thrifty for last week of August using the KW18 promo code from Mousesavers. $125 a week total for an intermediate car. Tried National, Dollar, Hertz and Avis (all with codes) and all were over $200 for the same car and dates. Does anyone know how far from the airport Thrifty is located? Mousesavers says you need to take a shuttle.

Yes you do have to take a Shuttle but it's only a short drive to where Thrifty is located.I was going to say it takes about 5 minutes to get there but I think it might be a couple minutes more.... I've used them a couple of times and it's not anymore inconvenient then standing in line at Alamo (in the airport) for an hour or so...
In fact I've used Alamo twice and have decided to go back to Thrifty. The prices for our rental cars for our trips in September,05 and April,06 is alot cheaper with Thrifty....

We have used Thrifty many times, and the shuttles are VERY prompt...either there waiting already or just pulling up. I hate shuttles but don't mind Thrifty or Hertz. Join Blue Chip and you won't have to wait in the main line (it's free). Out of all the times I've rented there, I only had one slightly negative experience, and it wasn't all that bad. I had a an agent who was pushy on the insurance and who got really snotty when I asked him to just skip the spiel because I am not interested in it. But the service is usually good, and we've even gotten some free ugrades.

Okay, we had a totally different experience with Thrifty, but now you all are making me think maybe we just hit them on a bad day?

We had to wait quite a while for a shuttle - I don't know exactly, but at least 20 minutes or more, and 5 busses from someone else (can't remember who, but they were the line next to us) came in that same time. We thought the shuttle was a lot longer than 5 minutes, but that could have been because we'd been up a long time, and traveling for a long time, and my kids had had it. We also had a pretty long wait at check-in, and a very aggressive agent. It was pretty annoying because it was very hard to get him to just honor our internet reservation, although he did in the end.

We've reserved a car from them again because it's so much cheaper, but my husband says no way. I'm still waiting to see if other prices come down.

If you all can tell me that was not the norm, I'd be pleased, because it would save us a chunk of change. I still haven't decided though, if it's worth the hassle - I love the idea of just walking out on the EA and driving away...

Another example of why it is important to learn how to print screen before making any internet reservation, and bring along that written confirmation.
