Thrift Store Reminder

Just a reminder for all of my fellow budget boarders: when you're searching for winter coats, don't overlook the thrift stores! i found a VERY nice, heavy, eddie bauer coat at a thrift store today that will make an awesome winter coat for my daughter for $3.49! and a got a lighter jacket, very beautiful, for $1.05! i almost overlooked them both, so search the racks thoroughly and if the selection seems to be lacking, ask the salespeople where the coats/jackets are-i was originally looking in the wrong place! happy hunting everyone

That is awesome! I am jealous. The thrift stores here stink. I don't know who is pricing things but apparently they don't understand that thrift stores should not be priced the same as buying new items.

i have the same problem. the thrift stores around here (NE alabama) don't have much, and the prices are high. i go to birmingham a few times a year, and i hit one of the big thrift stores there-they have GREAT stuff and the prices are more in line with what you'd expect.

Great finds!!! I think the trick is to check the thrift store/Goodwill often because the inventory changes fast. Also, check a few days after local yard sales. This is where a lot of the unsold items go!

I used to love shopping mine, but after Hurricane Gustav it's a health hazard. Seriously the ceiling tiles are full of mildew and I refuse to shop there anymore. I always found great items. Between that and they stopped selling toys b/c of all the recalls. Most of the kids clothes were old and junky esp the boy's clothing. I just shop yard sales instead. I also have been finding some good priced items in the paper.

I found a Columbia jacket like new for DD at Goodwill for $2.99. She loves it and I love the price

I found a NWT lands end coat for DD4 at a yard sale this summer for $3. I had to look twice to make sure I was reading the tag right!
