Happy Tuesday Friends

Great idea Polly with mentioning non-food treats. I’m going to copy cat you and do the same thing……

#1 - THE GREAT LIGHT FIGHT ON ABC - I love watching this show. It’s amazing how people decorate their house and property. I sit there and think how much do spend on this and where do you store it all? I’m way to much of cheapskate to do all that, but I’ll enjoy looking at what other people spend money on :D

#2 - ANNUAL DRIVING AROUND LOOKING AT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS - Piggy backing on the topic of people decorating their homes…..My DD22 and I enjoy going out every year to drive around looking at Christmas lights. We go out to dinner at Dairy Queen for some Chicken Tenders and sundaes and then off we go, it’s usually a 2 hour pilgrimage doing this and we’re always super stiff when we get home. Lots of laughs and lots of fun! We’ve been doing this for about 10 years now.

#3 - CHRISTMAS NAILS - I’m going today to get my Christmas Nails, and I’m so excited! My beautician does such a great job with adding glitter and I love glitter! My nails will be mostly Christmas bright red and the ring fingers will be Christmas bright green and all with red & green glitter. We use my nails, I don’t get fake nails. I always do no chip, so the polish lasts me three weeks. My next manicure will be fun NYE nails.

Peppermint stick ice cream- it's my very favorite flavor and only available during the holidays (unless there's an ice cream stand that's open in the winter).

Swiss Colony petit fours. They aren't as good as they used to be (I'm thinking SC has gone the route of cheaper ingredients) but it was something that my mom always ordered, so they say "holidays" to me.

Sweet/spicy roasted pecans. My great-grandmother made these every year for the holidays. I don't have her recipe... I wish I did, or could find a really good one.

A little behind due to travel craziness. You might even sense a theme in some of my replies...

SOFT

My bed- After driving through the night and taking several nap breaks in a less than comfortable rental vehicle, I was so happy to climb into my soft bed last night.
The two different Great Pyrenees we saw at the Buc-ee's in Kentucky - What are the odds that I encounter two different people with dogs of the same breed at the same stop? Either way, they are my favorite and I got some really good soft snuggles from one of them.
My ski/snowboard jacket- During my nap breaks, I turned the vehicle's heat on high and used my jacket as my blanket/pillow/face cover. The inside lining is pretty soft and made it easier to get those little bits of sleep I needed to keep going.

BLACK & WHITE

Diner Rug and Plates - While DH has been using it for his office ever since Covid, we have a casual dining room that I turned into a 50s style diner. I couldn't commit to checkerboard flooring but I found a very large area rug that covers 95% of the room and creates the same effect. I also found checkerboard plates that bend and stretch the pattern a bit to give it more of a quirky mid-century modern design vibe.

Loafers - I saw the most perfect pair of spectator loafers in 1995. Unfortunately, their brown oxford cousins were also very cute and went with a lot more of my professional attire. I only had it in my budget to buy one pair at the time, so I opted for what would get more use. By the time I had the money for the loafers, they were sold out in everything even remotely close to my size. For years, I have looked for loafers like this but never found anything quite right. Oh, I bought things but they never had the right vibe...until this spring. I found a modern play on that 1995 pair and they were also 60% off. So, I have finally satisfied that chunky black and white loafer "need."

Voodoo - I've noted that our solid black dog is going on 7 and starting to get a lot of white patches as she ages. So, I guess she's now technically black and white :)

HOLIDAY TREATS

Decorations - You see a lot when you drive through the night across a chunk of the country. We saw a lot of really great decorations on our drive that I never would have seen had our flights gone as planned. It's the pretty things like that which keep you going sometimes.

Peppermint bark/kisses/truffles/chip mixes - I love chocolate (white/dark/milk) when mixed with peppermint. I know some people wait all year for pumpkin spice season, but I love that the holidays bring me MINTER! I may have consumed several handfuls of Ghirardelli peppermint bark chocolate chip mix when I got home yesterday.

TV Specials/Movies - It's like being greeted by an old friend when these shows and movies come on each year. A few weeks ago, while DD and DH were in FL for softball and I was decorating our yard for the holidays, the original animated Grinch and the Rankin Bass - The Year Without a Santa Claus came on and I was absolutely giddy. I am especially fond of Heat Miser and Snow Miser, so it was such a treat to have them on a bit early, right when I was feeling really festive with the lights.

So this is making me a little nervous...
I just checked your thread about the Columbus airport. Thanks for the update... and I'm sorry it was such a nightmare getting home.

Evening all,

My immediate thought when you say christmas treat is unsurprisingly food, so my choices are all going to be edible today:

1. Anything gingerbread - not just gingerbread, but anything gingerbread flavoured from cookies, syrups to put in lattes, gingerbread coffee, cakes etc. I bake gingerbread flavoured things all year but love being able to get it everywhere at this time of year!

2. Chocolate - chocolate is available all year round, but Christmas tends to be when I treat myself (and any visiting family) to the chocolate you only get around this time of year. It tends to be one of my biggest treats.

3. Treeselets - I'll be very shocked if you have these in the States, but these are cheese flavoured Christmas tree snacks that are so moreish. I have been known to go through multiple tubs each year so now have to hide them out of sight...

If I may suggest, you should look at the pecans offered at Sunnyland Farms. They have honey-kissed, candied chipotle, cinnamon sugar, and orange frosted. I buy the honey-kissed every year for my family to enjoy over the holidays. All of their products are excellent.

Happy HUMP Day Everyone

#1 - REMOTE CONTROLS - I’m most grateful for the TV remotes. I do have remotes for some other things too.

#2 - RING APP - This is fresh in my mind, because I discussed it in today’s poll. I use that app many many times throughout the day.

#3 - RADIO - I’m grateful for it every day when I listen to it in my car.

Radio alarm clock that woke me up 5:00 MST to stretch this 70 year old body

Road..4 lanes this morning so I can drive 20 mph using the seat heater to stretch out my body

Retail.... open at 6:00 so I can use the shopping 🛒 🛒 🛒 🛒 🛒 as a walker in the aisles to stretch out my body.... church farmers market needs me there by 6:30...hit the ground RUNNING directing vendors to their dark morning retail space on the singular road that defines the church campus
