Burger toppings . . .

Tomato slices (must be a ripe tomato, not one of those hard tasteless ones)
Cheese, particularly cheddar or Swiss
Dill pickle relish (easier to bite than slices, which tend to come off the burger)
NO CONDIMENTS (mustard, ketchup, mayo, aioli, etc. I don’t like the taste or the texture)

Other favorite toppings . . .

Hot fudge on ice cream
Whipped cream on any dessert
Vanilla ice cream on fruit pies

Traditions...

When DD and I go on Disney trips, on the very first night in Florida, we get a pint of Chunky Monkey and eat it sitting in bed, along with a glass of wine. It's harder to do when we stay onsite, as we don't have a freezer, so we'll swap to cheese and crackers, but we still have the wine!

When we were kids, on Christmas Eve my dad would lead us in welcoming Christmas into our home. We'd sit around in the living room and he'd read us the Christmas story from the King James bible, followed by "Jesus' birthday cake" for dessert. Then we'd all grab our stockings, Dad would light a candle, and we'd parade from room to room, singing Christmas carols, bringing Christmas to every corner of the house. I have some funny memories, like each of us walking across my parents' double bed, because my dad would never double back, we'd circle every room. It ended by the fireplace, hanging our stockings and heading off to bed to hopefully sleep, so Santa could come!! We stopped doing this when my father died, but I read the Christmas story from a children's bible and we'd have Jesus' birthday cake with DD for about 10 years.

Date night. It's not a real date, but on most Sunday evenings DH and I take the NYT crossword puzzle to one of our local taprooms, have a beer, and challenge ourselves to fill in at least SOME of the puzzle without cheating!! We did this more regularly before DD/SIL/LittleGuy moved in with us (because life with 5 was busier than with 2) but we are starting to do this again, now that we are empty-nesters again!

1. We let the kids eat a cupcake for breakfast on their birthday.
2. When I was a kid, every Christmas Eve family and friends would come over and spend the evening playing cards. It was a very fun and happy time. My Grammy would also spend the night.
3. We start every Disney vacation with Magic Kingdom.

First off...I'd like to include my ice cream toppings from yesterday's topic, since I only included burgers.
1. Original basic chocolate Magic Shell
2. Pineapple...the overly sweet jarred stuff that's barely fruit but tastes so good
3. Nonpareils- I am not huge on sprinkles but I love the crunch you get from the mini nonpareils.

Silly Traditions
1. We're always on the lookout for wildlife when we travel. We've had several instances of cattle that looked like bison herds from afar, free roaming cattle, and cattle out in the middle of nowhere. We have dubbed these "wildercows" (as in cows of the wilderness). We don't call them out or anything like that, but it's just a silly name you might hear one of remark in frustration if we see one and initially thought it was something more interesting. I got a really good laugh in Colorado this summer. I went on an 8 mile walk this one day and wound up along what seemed like a natural area that flanked the river. Out of nowhere, this large black cow goes galloping through a meadowy area to my side and into the brush. That was a wildercow!
2. In the same vein, if you spot legit wildlife while we're driving, it's customary to respond with "20/20 vision y'all!" after saying the what and where info on said animal. It's silly, but it just shows your eyes are locked in and you're the top animal spotter for the moment.
3. Giant Rabbits - Hopefully this doesn't seem too gross to anyone, but DH thinks those massive round/cylindrical bales of hay look like rabbit droppings. Whenever he spots a field of them on our road trips, he'll make comments warning us to look out for the giant rabbits.

I'm struggling a little with traditions, as i feel like i don't really have many currently... something I need to think about.

1. Christmas & New Year - every year without fail my parents would host Christmas and we'd then go to my grandparents for new years day for something similar (the food, not presents). I have such good fond memories of these times, and Christmas and NY just isnt the same now.

2. Tea & cake - I've mentioned this one before, but going out for a brew or coffee with a cake is a tradition I've been enjoying since I was a child and still do to this date.

3. Scratchcards - silly but at Christmas my mum always used to give us a couple of scratchcards inside our Christmas cards when we got older, and i loved this even though we won next to nothing. Something else i really miss!

We always had a charcuterie board homemade for Christmas Eve it was also so much fun making that

Everyone got to pick whatever dessert they wanted for their birthday it did not have to be a cake it could be a pie it could be any kind of dessert you wanted because it was your birthday - it was whatever you wanted

It was the keeping on the menus for the holidays so we knew every year what we had had to eat whether we liked it or not and then we will go over them every year to decide what we were eating the following year these were big meetings that went on forever digging through cookbooks to find things to make and eat for the holiday holidays it was a big tradition took weeks!!
We did the same thing when it came time to make cookies and candy for the holidays

Well...my parents were both orphans so they grew up with no traditions... AND they tried... but it was just one hurdle after another before our family fractured apart

So the one adult tradition I had was to watch JV high school football on Thursday nights in the month of September till the Oregon rain
...so for 20 years I would walk from my first wife 7 bedroom estate that was on the border of the Oregon Capitol Mall... only the wood bleachers and grass field separated us from the massive sprawling complex of government buildings..
Walk around the corner, game was free, bag of popcorn and m&ms and watch summer fade away and autumn creep in with all the smells .my 3rd wife of 17 years just recently asked me what I miss most about Oregon.... the Thursday night lights of the gridiron.... thought I would spend my retirement watching Salem football Thursday Friday and Saturday

1. The Thanksgiving service at my church - 1 hour of spontaneous personal testimony and hymns by request. I'm actually missing it this year for the first time I can remember, but it's because we'll be visiting my brother, sister-in-law and niece! We've never been invited for a holiday before, so we HAD to take advantage of it.
2. Christmas Eve candlelight service
3. Easter service

Dear PollyannaMom my apologies for overlooking your question this morning. We make a bigger regular pancake and then press into it with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Not easy to cut through the pancake but it works enough

Traditions
Every WDW trip I take a photo of my DD and DH waiting for Disney transportation. (Also took her picture on our mother/daughter trip)

Starting when I was 13, I made lasagna every Christmas. Haven’t done it for a few years now for many reasons, but it was a very long stretch, over 50 years.

When we drive to WDW, we always call out when we see our first South of the Border billboard and also when we see our first palm tree.

@bluecastle, you reminded me of a photo one - there used to a Mickey statue in MCO airport, kind of a wall relief, and I took DS's picture there every trip. It's a "watch me grow" series to look back on now.

Breakfast sundaes on St. Patrick's Day (Lucky Charms cereal on top of vanilla ice cream instead of in milk).

Back to school cakes - I used to make a clever cake on DS's first day of school, so there would be something special when he got off the bus.

Traditions

#1 - DD22 & I GOING FOR OUR THANKSGIVING MORNING STARBUCKS - I started this when Starbucks came to put town when my girls were young. This was a huge treat for them and even though DD22 goes to Starbucks on her own now, she still enjoys this tradition, so we continue to go.

#2 - NEW TRADITION OF GETTING A BIG STUFFED PIZZA ON CHRISTMAS EVE - We are really loving this new tradition that started in 2023. We go to 5pm Mass, pick up our pizza and go home to eat pizza and watch The Polar Express.

#3 - MY BIRTHDAY CAKE - It’s a tradition for my mom to make my birthday cake every year. It’ll be a sad year when that can’t happen anymore. Luckily, that won’t be this year.
