Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Afternoon all!

I'm going to go for safety as while i love the scenic aspects of the beach, I'm not a fan of sand...

1. Hi-vis clothing - find this really useful during the winter months if I want to go out walking in the dark.

2. Safety pins - arguably i don't use these for safety reasons but they've got safety in their name, and I always carry some around with me in the event of any wardrobe malfunctions

3. Seat belts - while I've been very fortunate to have never had an accident, I've seen and heard about what happens when you dont wear a seat belt.

All the current car safety features, like Eyesight, which has all sorts of warning beeps. I also like the brake assist. Luckily it has only kicked in a few times, but it gives me peace of mind to know it’s there.

Food safety is really important to me, and I wish I could count on it more lately.

Bike helmets, especially for kids.

My kids are happy I’ll tolerate the beach for them but it’s still not my favorite. So I’m going with safety…

Workplace Safety Training - I just got a reminder to complete my annual course. I always freak out a bit when taking it because you don't like to think about being faced with an active shooter in any situation but the reality is that it's good to have some knowledge to form a plan. Run - Hide - Fight!

Air Bags - If you've ever been in a wreck where yours deployed, you know they burn a bit but it's so much better than having your head hit the wheel with that kind of force.

Phone Apps and Features - Our phones have so many things that can help with safety. We have the obvious like SOS features and medical IDs that can be accessed in an emergency, but even something like map/GPS apps keep us safer when in unfamiliar areas than we ever were back in traditional map days. On top of that, apps like Life360 and FindMy can help with whereabouts and security camera apps can help you keep an eye on your cameras.

Oregon beaches are dangerous

* Common signs are tsunami signs where and what direction to flee... though not much can be done to keep you safe

A sign that can keep you safe is to not loiter around logs on the surf or edge of tide line

Another sign is posted on the sand cliffs to not carve, dig or climb... folks like carving their names into the cliffs
All three signs are posted on large warning signs made of plywood and posts on each access point to the ocean...a walking path or parking lot

It is:

so if that's your state, please tell us why you're grateful for it!!

Otherwise, it's also:

...inspiring today's other topic (Sun, 8/31) - 3 times you were grateful for a recommendation from someone else (could be romantic, business, whatever - just any time someone pointed you in what turned out to be the right direction)

My Aunt - I have spoken of her in the past she is not one that would’ve kept her mouth shut at any point in time in her life on a subject🤣🤣 she let her point of view be known whether you want to hear or not I miss her so much!!! But I really did appreciate the fact that she did speak her mind and made for great entertainment I’ll just leave it at that!! And I’m not talking about between me and my aunt more like between my aunt and my parents🤣🤣🤣

The Lady I used to babysit for - This is during my high school years She was a big part of my life in a time when I really needed somebody And really she needs somebody then too - As she was going to divorce - She was really great help to me More ways than she will ever understand
We had a lot of adventures together just to get away from everything and everyone

My Dr - I know that sounds weird but we have been closed for over 30 years He’s like more than a doctor to me he’s like an older brother At one point in time he told his whole staff that he loves me like a sister and then I should be treated as such ❤️ He has helped me so much but not just myself but with other family members with other issues that had nothing to do with them but I needed help He is literally dropped everything to take my calls and help me ❤️❤️❤️ And he speaks very frankly to me and does not mince his words one bit on subjects that have nothing to do with my general health we talk about everything But we talk about DISNEY a lot I mean like a lot - I’m usually his last patient of the day so we usually chat for at least an hour maybe an hour and a half And then we get around to where I was in the office to see him to begin with 🤣🤣🤣

Happy Sunday

#1 - PAST PRIEST - He encouraged me, 18 years ago, to be a Lector and Eucheristic Minister and I’m so glad he did. Doing both of these things has been, and still is, incredibly spiritually rewarding.

#2 - MY GASTROENTEROLOGIST - He’s a younger guy and I like him a lot. He talked me into starting infusions for my UC that reached a severe level and I’m so glad he did. I’ve now been in remission for almost 4 years.

#3 - MY 2ND PODIATRIST - I’ve been suffering with a foot issue for almost a year now, and he suggested a surgical procedure that my other doctor never mentioned. I’m praying this works, to give me relief, so we can start doing things again. Currently we don’t do things that require a lot of walking - it stinks because there’s a lot we’d like to do.

RAYS OF SUNSHINE

Ray Bradbury wrote a story that I heard or read in elementary school.. the main character was a young girl named Margot and her peers locked her in a closet...so she couldn't experience... that story has followed me all my life and directed me to explore the very unusual...rich am I experience that most folks still dream of doing

Ray was a cordial man that we meet as a vendor next to us at flea markets. Time after time he was after me about eBay during it's pioneer existence...so very thankful that I listen to him and changed my life

Ray was a man that my mother was a live in care taker. He had a cabin on a Oregon estuary. He liked going there and always encouraged me to gather family and spend time in the house/cabin with plenty of room. Many memories of waking up to family laughter and outside the fragrance l of the estuary... directing me to grab hold of experience outside of your norm.... hence Yuma November 1 to May 1..., only 2 more months till summer

Afternoon all!

1 and 2 of my 3 would be 2 of my managers at work - one past manager and also my current manager. My past manager pushed really hard to help me progress in a specific job a number of years ago, and my current manager has really helped me come into my own in my current role - not sure I'd have been able to do that with someone different!

3. Is one of my old staff members who is still a valued friend and colleague, even though she no longer works for me - shes provided me with a lot of help and guidance and reassurance about what I'm doing which has helped me more than she'll realise.

Community facebook group- We have a local page that’s been excellent for recommendations. Plumbers, electricians, appliance repair, handymen, fence guys, etc. It’s pretty easy to pick the reliable favorites when you see the numbers of times people pop up from different members.

Private coaches/instructors- These always seem to come from referrals and recommendations.

Various foods- There are some influencers I follow who take a more balanced and sane approach to diet and nutrition. A number of their recommendations have enabled me to incorporate new things into my eating that satisfy cravings without killing my goals.
