Another vote for SIRIUS XM - I'd never had it before I got my new car in May, but I've really enjoyed it! (And thanks to advice from here on the DISboards, I waited until the second letter came with the better offer to extend the free trial.) I've been listening the most to a Beatles station, Radio Margaritaville, and Y2Kountry.
Music in the car in general - I generally concentrate better with background noise than silence, so I've always listened to music in the car, whether on the radio or various media as it evolved. - I've had cars with a cassette player, a CD player, and my current one can even play music (or podcasts or audiobooks) through my phone. Back in the cassette days, I spent many hours crafting the perfect road trip playlists!
Sitting by the radio as a kid, listening to the list of schools to see if we had a snow day!
Dodger games with Vin Scully on the radio were a childhood soundtrack for sure.
Radio stations like 102.7 KIIS FM and AM Los Angeles yes with Rick Dees was often played on school bus rides. I rode the bus for my first year in high school and then as needed the other two years.
I never won but the days when stations had almost daily call in contests.
Another vote for mix tapes recorded from the radio. I finally got rid of mine in our last move. Cassette players just never seem to last, at least the way they're made today, so I've only retained some things that I may one day convert to digital.
News/weather in emergency situations is my next one. From 9/11 coverage to storm issues, I'm grateful for times when local radio has switched over to more critical issues.
Weekly countdowns were always fun back when I was a kid in the 80s. It was a time to see how your faves were doing as well as hear a few new things making their marks.
I remember as a kid listening to the radio and making cassette tapes off songs from the radio showing my age here
I e
I would like to try to see if I can beat the rate I had the previous year
1980 an artist... Christopher Cross..was all over the radio...so I made a cassette tape to send to a missionary friend in central America.... looking like cassette tapes the only way to beat the rates

..........threw the last box of movie soundtracks away this week
Yearly countdown 1974 ... high school/university ... sent away for the list..came printed on gold cardstock... still have it in one of the boxes underneath the cassette tapes
1. My boombox to blast my favorite songs.
2. Mixed tapes - both to give and receive.
3. My Sony Walkman with cassette player and radio.
4. DH- we worked through college as DJ:s and radio host on local radio station way out in the boonies - with music on cassette tapes! That was a LONG time ago!!!
I'll be in the minority here but I absolutely hate listening to the radio. The stations over here are just rubbish, from constantly playing ads to naff chatter, to repeating the same songs every few hours. They drive me crazy
1. Radio mix tapes - another vote for this. I have fond memories of listening to the top 40 chart every Sunday and trying to tape my favourites.
2. Music in the car - agree with PollyannaMom on this one. I couldn't drive in silence, I always need to have (fairly loud) music on to help me destress or relax. The change in media over the years from tapes to CDs, iPods and now being able to play Spotify over AndroidAuto is definitely quite fun to reminisce over.
3. Genre specific radio stations - like i said, I dont like listening to the radio but one of the stations in the UK has lots of different genre specific stations like 80s, 90s, 00s and even Xmas. So when I do have to listen to the radio, I would always turn to these!

Going to help redefine boonies... check out goldfield Nevada radio station... depends more on Internet for it has a range on car radio north 30 miles and south...well you have to climb the grave.. whoops grade before the station surface on radio... have not been to any living ghost town of merit but in my history.. goldfield Nevada is a true living ghost town

Congratulations to your DH dear PollyannaMom and to you too my friend, Curtis. Any other radio call in winners, too. I did once win a month pass at a small town's indoor community pool which was a great savings and gift
I have a long history of listening to the radio. My first love was my transistor radio which went everywhere with me, from bike rides to listening to it late at night under my pillow to baseball and hockey games; sometimes getting stations from very far away. (Like Montreal, listening to hockey in French and trying to guess what was going on)
I won a few contests on the radio. I remember winning tickets to see the movie Jaws and was too scared to go see it, so I gave them to the principal of the school where I was teaching!
Hours spent making mixed tapes which I still have. Beatles from A-Z, yearly countdowns, themed tapes for road trips…
And I still listen. Mostly my local public radio station, especially on the weekends. (love the show Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me and have seen it in person)
