Three Things...Gratitude Thread

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Donald πŸŽ†πŸŽ†πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ†πŸŽπŸŽ‰

🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️ Beaming proud that Eugene Oregon and Marceline are the only two cities outside of California that have license to celebrate Disney.... Donald likeness is the university of Oregon mascot

How how we loved Disney at our 1960s Joshua Tree elementary School...an assembly to watch Donald duck in mathematics land

Donald won an Oscar in 1943 at the 15th award ceremony and is now ranked 22 of 50 greatest cartoon features .... for which Disney had misgivings for 60 years

Donald has the most appearances, not counting TV, on film at 197 roles... Mickey has 167...and for you trivia nuts like me... Donald has 3 birthdays... but today is the official recognized day he would have to show to have an icon on his driver's license to board a plane

So thank you Donald for being so counter culture.. now if you could only blow out candles on the cake πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚

I'm a little behind...

I think I'm going to go with Oklahoma-
1. Not that I want anyone to face nasty storms and I'm genuinely concerned about our trip up there next week, but I'm grateful DD18 didn't experience any spring tornado activity during her second semester at OU.
2. OU - DD18 loves it and can't wait to get back, so I'm grateful for the school and her scholarship funds.
3. The WinStar - The world record setting casino on the border was the whole reason I got DD18 to reconsider OU in the first place. Ringo Starr was playing their new arena and it seemed like a prime time to couple it with an official tour up at the school.

Body-

1. I'm grateful for my right leg/foot. Sure, I have a really ugly scar on my calf from the handful of procedures tied to my melanoma removal and monitoring, as well as the complications and antibiotic resistant infection. Oh, and there's the lymphedema from the lymph node biopsy that causes swelling in my leg, ankle, and foot. Still...it's a lot better than losing my leg due to the infection or having a more severe case of lymphedema.
2. My healed left ankle...for sure! I'm now walking about 35-40 miles per week, which wasn't possible before my ankle healed.
3. Lipomas - OK, this is sort of backwards. I have TONS of lipomas and the more weight I lose, the more I discover. It's too many for any kind of surgery or radiation. My doctors feel the excess growth of them was caused by my rapid weight gain and a potential link to excessive cheese consumption. Some of them are really unsightly, but just looking at them reminds me that my emotional eating habits aren't worth it anymore.

Disney-

1. Donald! - He is my favorite character and while I'm grateful for him and the joy he's brought to my life, I really wish Disney would make more and better Donald merch.
2. Mary Blair - I love all of her artistic contributions to the Disney company.
3. Fun Dining - As much as I love the parks and resorts, dining is what gets me most excited about trip planning. It's one of the only things in the world where I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of food quality for a unique and fun experience.

Having trouble with the quote function on my phone, but I second both of these:

elementary School...an assembly to watch Donald duck in mathematics land

Mary Blair - I love all of her artistic contributions to the Disney company.

Also:

DS's first big Disney trip

Being "in the bubble" when we're there

Watching Wonderful World of Disney on TV as a kid

So many choices!

My Haunted Mansion oven mitts

Disney music, especially the background music in the parks and resorts

Watching my DGD’s face when she met the characters for the first time (she was 3). Perfect age, she believed they were real. Just the other day she saw a picture of her and Donald Duck hugging at the WL on our last trip and asked me if it was the real DD. She is almost 6 and I told her the truth. She was OK with that, and in fact, said it was a good thing he wasn’t the real DD or he’d be jumping all around and acting crazy. :) I think he makes her laugh more than any other Disney character.

Online Shopping with Fast Delivery - I'm always kind of shocked when I order something the night before and it really is on my doorstep by 8am. It's really handy when the kids give me little to no warning on immediate needs late at night.

Wireless Headphones - I listen to music throughout the day and night. I think back on all of the years my parents, roommates, dormmates, etc. had to endure my loud music. Now I can listen discreetly without bothering anyone else and not being confined to the lengths of a cord.

Upgraded Office Gear - I think I've shared that DH got me an electric desk that can be raised into a standing desk as well as a super comfy chair. Before all of this, I just sat all day and had a lot of pain. These upgrades have helped with my health improvement journey. Now, if only I could get coordinated enough to use the walking pad with the desk in standing mode!

My Friends - a true blessing I’m very grateful for my friends and I’m grateful to know who my true friends are

My Job - aggravating as it can be at times I’m allotted a lot of freedom and I can work from home four days a week very grateful for that and if ever need be and there has been a need be my boss can be extremely generous and helpful and I’m extremely grateful for that

My Pets - just about everyone has said why would you get pets at your age because I get great companionship and enjoying a lot of them that’s why and they can be quite entertaining

Three random things I'm grateful for:

That DD31 still wants to spend time together, hanging out, going places, shopping, just being. In fact, we are going out for brunch on Saturday!

That DH is perfectly fine with me traveling on my own. I visit my sisters (one in Maine, one in NOLA), travel with DD or friends, solo at Disney. He and I travel together but he is 100% on board with me doing my own thing, too.

My Nook. I've worn glasses since I was 8 years old, but as I've aged, my vision has worsened. (In fact, yesterday I learned that I need cataract surgery in both eyes.) In the last 10 years, it's become more and more difficult to read books, especially in bed. I love books, but about 5 years ago I gave in and bought a Nook, and started reading again! It's also really, really convenient when traveling; I don't have to bring multiple books in my suitcase!

1. My car & being able to drive - I feel like i sometimes take it foregranted the fact that I can hop into my car whenever I want and go anywhere I like, but that freedom of being able to drive and having a car just can't be beaten. The thought of being restricted or not being able to go to places easily scares me.

2. Wireless headphones - I'll second Tigger on this one. Being able to listen to music wherever you are and whatever you're doing without being restricted by a cable is so useful and freeing.

3. Dishwasher - I went years without a dishwasher and after getting one installed when I had my kitchen done a couple of years ago, I now couldn't life without it. It has made my life so much easier!

Grateful for:

Comedy: with all the darkness in the world lately, funny shows and comics help to keep me balanced.

How easy it is to fix mistakes when typing on an iPad or computer! I’m old enough to remember typing on a typewriter and having to use that white paper to β€œerase” mistakes.

How easy it is to get in touch with people. Remember busy signals and how annoying they were? :)

Pollyanamom for facilitating the this thread.... it's the second thing I do when I wake up... scratch that...third . have to pet very needy πŸ• πŸ• πŸ•
When watering the yard I ponder what is suggested

The first thing I do is check the status of the Amtrak Coast starlight and see if the passengers saw the most beautiful area of the entire trip... dunsmuir canyon.. only seen north bound from May to July and the train has to be running late at 4:45 in the morning... only seen once and grateful that the train was stalled for an hour

Happy Hump Day Friends

#1 - My Disney Big Figs - All of them are considered rare, but I have some that are very rare. All of my big figs are a great conversation piece when someone comes to my house for the first time.

#2 - My Disney Dollars - I’ll consider these as rare since they are no longer made. The rarest ones are my ones made in 2000. I had them before 2000, but spent them.

#3 - My Disney Decades Coins - I have so many of them. I was just showing them to Katie the a few weeks ago - she had no idea I had them. For those that don’t know what they are, here’s a picture I took off eBay (mine are tucked away)

Recently, eggs that I could afford!

Very topical... when we cleared out my grandmother's house about 40 years ago, we found "leftover" rationing coupons. I have them tucked away (somewhere). They speak of a whole different generation, whole different lifestyle.

I'm not sure how "rare" or "scarce" these things are, but my father was a banker. We have all kinds of first-day printing of different types of money: Silver certificates of different denominations of dollar bills, initial issue of Kennedy half-dollars, things like that. These, too, are tucked away. I should haul them out sometime, see if they will increase in value and are worth keeping, or if I should 'cash them in' and pay down the balance on our next Disney trip!

Disney Dollar

I do have a few Kennedy coin still sadly a bunch of mine were stolen I used to have a lot more

I really don’t think I have anything else that’s rare I don’t really have any of those kind of items I have some very old dishes but I highly doubt they’re worth anything they’re just worth something to me
What makes them rare Is the fact that I actually got them because in my family dynamics my father fund everything to my sister and I was able to snatch away a few things without him knowing it I wouldn’t call it stealing I would call it appropriating them someplace else and then eventually getting them to my house Because as far as I’m concerned they were my motherβ€˜s and I was just as much entitled to them as my sister was - And these items are pretty old because I’m no spring chicken πŸ” They’re not old enough to take on Antiques Roadshow yet but they’re getting there🀣🀣🀣🀣

Good Morning :)

Dad by his bed has my grandpa's old(er) fashioned lamp which means a lot to us both.

I still have two childhood stuffed animals.

I do appreciate my Kindle especially for movie watching. I also use it for reading heavier or thicker books that I no longer find comfortable holding a real copy of. However, my preference is an actual book. Dad still gets his newspaper delivered, too.

I'm struggling a bit with this one as I'm not entirely sure I have much that I'd class as rare or scarce. I don't have any family heirlooms and the older trinkets and collectibles I do have might not be rare or scarce, just old.

I do however have some Disney plushies from my first ever trip to WDW in 1997 that are possibly scarce after all these years - Sorcerer Mickey, Cowgirl Minnie and a Timon and Pumbaa to name a few, the latter of which i had my parents traipsing round every shop until we managed to find one in the Contemporary πŸ˜‚

I'd also echo flyingdumbo, I have a stuffed cat that I've had since i was born and is still going strong 38 years later. With what I subjected her to during my childhood, she's certainly rare!
