Three Things...Gratitude Thread

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Donald πŸŽ†πŸŽ†πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ†πŸŽπŸŽ‰

🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️ Beaming proud that Eugene Oregon and Marceline are the only two cities outside of California that have license to celebrate Disney.... Donald likeness is the university of Oregon mascot

How how we loved Disney at our 1960s Joshua Tree elementary School...an assembly to watch Donald duck in mathematics land

Donald won an Oscar in 1943 at the 15th award ceremony and is now ranked 22 of 50 greatest cartoon features .... for which Disney had misgivings for 60 years

Donald has the most appearances, not counting TV, on film at 197 roles... Mickey has 167...and for you trivia nuts like me... Donald has 3 birthdays... but today is the official recognized day he would have to show to have an icon on his driver's license to board a plane

So thank you Donald for being so counter culture.. now if you could only blow out candles on the cake πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚ πŸŽ‚

I'm a little behind...

I think I'm going to go with Oklahoma-
1. Not that I want anyone to face nasty storms and I'm genuinely concerned about our trip up there next week, but I'm grateful DD18 didn't experience any spring tornado activity during her second semester at OU.
2. OU - DD18 loves it and can't wait to get back, so I'm grateful for the school and her scholarship funds.
3. The WinStar - The world record setting casino on the border was the whole reason I got DD18 to reconsider OU in the first place. Ringo Starr was playing their new arena and it seemed like a prime time to couple it with an official tour up at the school.

Body-

1. I'm grateful for my right leg/foot. Sure, I have a really ugly scar on my calf from the handful of procedures tied to my melanoma removal and monitoring, as well as the complications and antibiotic resistant infection. Oh, and there's the lymphedema from the lymph node biopsy that causes swelling in my leg, ankle, and foot. Still...it's a lot better than losing my leg due to the infection or having a more severe case of lymphedema.
2. My healed left ankle...for sure! I'm now walking about 35-40 miles per week, which wasn't possible before my ankle healed.
3. Lipomas - OK, this is sort of backwards. I have TONS of lipomas and the more weight I lose, the more I discover. It's too many for any kind of surgery or radiation. My doctors feel the excess growth of them was caused by my rapid weight gain and a potential link to excessive cheese consumption. Some of them are really unsightly, but just looking at them reminds me that my emotional eating habits aren't worth it anymore.

Disney-

1. Donald! - He is my favorite character and while I'm grateful for him and the joy he's brought to my life, I really wish Disney would make more and better Donald merch.
2. Mary Blair - I love all of her artistic contributions to the Disney company.
3. Fun Dining - As much as I love the parks and resorts, dining is what gets me most excited about trip planning. It's one of the only things in the world where I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of food quality for a unique and fun experience.

Having trouble with the quote function on my phone, but I second both of these:

elementary School...an assembly to watch Donald duck in mathematics land

Mary Blair - I love all of her artistic contributions to the Disney company.

Also:

DS's first big Disney trip

Being "in the bubble" when we're there

Watching Wonderful World of Disney on TV as a kid

So many choices!

My Haunted Mansion oven mitts

Disney music, especially the background music in the parks and resorts

Watching my DGD’s face when she met the characters for the first time (she was 3). Perfect age, she believed they were real. Just the other day she saw a picture of her and Donald Duck hugging at the WL on our last trip and asked me if it was the real DD. She is almost 6 and I told her the truth. She was OK with that, and in fact, said it was a good thing he wasn’t the real DD or he’d be jumping all around and acting crazy. :) I think he makes her laugh more than any other Disney character.
