Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Wednesday Morning!

#1 - My WDW Refillable Mug - It doesn’t keep things hot or cold for very long, but that’s ok. I’m grateful for it because it’s very lightweight, and easy to travel with. I never leave home, to stay at a hotel without my refillable mug. I like going down to the hotel lobby with my mug with a handle instead of using one of their cups that they provide.

#2 - My Yetis & Generic Yetis - I’m very grateful for these throughout the year. I use them to take hot coffee and hot tea with me in the winter and cold drinks in the summer. I’m especially grateful for how they keep my cold drinks cold while I’m sitting by the pool.

#3 - My Regular Disney Coffee Mugs - I have so many of them, and several of them are over 30 years old. The one I’m using right now, this morning, is from Walt Disney World during the millennium celebration, so the year written on the mug is 2000. I’m really looking forward to adding to my mugs in 11 days.

Coated things...
>Chocolate covered pretzels
>Time-released/enteric coated meds
>Fried clams

Keeping things hot/cold...
>My snuggly blanket wrap; we call it The Bear. It's like a full-length hoodie but it doesn't zip, just pulls on, and is extra thick and fuzzy. Keeps me covered and warm all night!
>Those lovely little "hot packs" that you slap, they warm up, and you can put 'em in your gloves or boots. When I worked in the public schools, I'd regularly have recess and bus duty. You have no idea how many freezing cold days I tolerated, but my tootsies stayed warm thanks to these!
>I have a neck fan that I take to Disney. It fits around my neck, open in the front, and it blows air along the back of my neck/hairline. I don't wear it all the time, but it's a life-saver on a hot August afternoon as one is trudging around World Showcase in the full sun!

Stanley - No, I don't have a whole collection. I have a few generic ones from promos and work as well as two authentic ones. The first real one is sort of a metallic bronze. I didn't love it after using it for a week (the color didn't really speak to me as much in person 🤣) so I gave it to DD18...who decided it was too big. So, now it lives in my vehicle in case I need it on the go. I keep a big bright orange one at my desk. I usually go through it 2-3x a day.

RTIC - This brand seems to be the cheaper (yet just as reliable) alternative to Stanley and YETI. They are DD16s go-to's for both her school thermos and her softball water jug. We are also fortunate enough to have a local RTIC store so I can head across town if there's an immediate need.

Car Cup Cooler/Warmer - I bought this for DH and it just sits there, but it's pretty nifty. I know some vehicles now come with these built into your drink holders, but our vehicles aren't that fancy. So, we bought this plug-in version that will keep your coffee and cocoa hot as well as your sodas and waters cold while you're driving.

Coated aspirin oh my gosh I remember the days of uncoded aspirin what a good answer yep so grateful for coated aspirin that is some of the nastiest tasting stuff from back in the days when we didn’t have anything but aspirin my mother used to put that stuff in our food it was so gross!!

My Disney Starbucks cups I use them every day one in the morning for my coffee and a different one at night for my ice water that way I feel like I’m at DISNEY every day❤️ I get a new one every time I go to DISNEY or maybe two 🤣🤣

My DVC I don’t know what you would call it but you put food in them to keep it warm they’re like a little tote bag 🤷‍♀️ they’re nice and plush with a zipper and they’re used to keep things warm like food

My refrigerator I’m very grateful for my refrigerator you’re never so grateful for one until it goes out and then you’re extremely grateful for one!! And when it goes out I’m extremely grateful for my coolers!! But I’m most grateful for my garage refrigerator it’s almost 40 years old it freezes all winter it melt all summer and praise the Lord it just keeps on plugging along it’s not pretty to look at but it still keeps running and I’m very grateful for it eventually it’s going to just fall apart and I’ll be sad ☹️ but until then I enjoy having it

Coffee mugs at Saturday and Sunday down town vendor market...I purchased select mugs (Disney Elvis Harley peanuts characters)) for 50 cents at rummage sale and research eBay and cut eBay prices in half....far side Gary Larson mugs are the most valuable... Starbucks cities not so much

Memorial day weekend in the high cascades had 🌨️🌨️🌬️🌬️ snow melt streams to keep our limits of fish ❄️ ❄️ 🥶 🥶 🥶 cold... above the 🐻 🐻 🐻 line

Styrofoam panels for windows to keep the cold air from the 3 wall unit air conditioners seeping out and not cooling at intense energy usage

OMGosh, I don't know why i didn't think of my Disney resort mugs! I have a collection of resort-specific mugs, before Disney went cheap-o and started mass producing generic refillable mugs. I have mugs from AllStars, POP, Pepper Market (CSR), POFQ, and Animal Kingdom Lodge. I use them every single day, to keep my morning coffee hot!

My microwave :) It keeps my coffee at just the right temperature every time I reheat it.

Therma-Cares for my back. They are especially appreciated in cold weather.

A variation on refrigerator, I love the freezer section. I eat a lot of frozen veggies. I know there would be a drastic reduction in my vegetable consumption if I had to prepare them fresh. And my ice gel pack (also for back pain) is my best friend when I am in a pain cycle.

Record Player / Cassette Player / CD player - I just ordered a system it’s coming tomorrow I’m so excited I get to listen to all my music again yeah!!!

Drying Rack - for clothes - the one I had was my mom’s that’s how old it was I finally broke down and bought a new one and I am in love with my new one I use it every week most people have never heard of them these days but I absolutely love my drying rack

My alarm clock - I still have the digital alarm clock by my bed I just can’t seem to part ways with it

Happy Thursday Friends!

#1 - The Clapper - You know the one…. Clap on! 👏🏼 Clap off! 👏🏼Clap on Clap off…. the clapper!
I love my clapper! We’ve had one for my dresser lamp for over 20 years now. They do wear out eventually and we are on our fourth one.

#2 - Sony Walkman - When I was a big runner, I always used my Sony Walkman and I thought I was so cool!

#3 - Speak & Spell - Anyone else have one of these as a kid? I played with mine all the time, and I do believe it helped me be a good speller when I was kid.

Cassette recorders - I remember recording tapes off the top 40 countdown on the radio. I even had a mini cassette recorder for "interviews".

My first computer (a TRS-80) - I wrote the coolest kaleidoscope program for it, and would just leave it running as background in my room.

And I second drying racks - I still use the one I had in my college dorm room. We got a newer, larger one - but half the time I try to set it up, it comes apart. The old one steadies on like a champ!

Today's Topic (Thu, 2/27) - 3 "retro" things you are/were grateful for:

Cartoons on a Saturday morning
- Yes, I know you can watch them anytime now but there was something special about planning your week for a Saturday morning cartoon binge.

AOL or internet in the beginning - You actually got mail from people you knew. It was faster than snail mail. Now days its all advertisements or work. Cannot remember the last time someone sent me a personal email.

Block Buster or local video store - Date night? What to do? Go our for dinner and swing by Block Buster. Really get to know your date by discussing the types of movies you like to see. Pick this one not that one. Why did you like this move? Etc.

I’m sorry your new drying rack doesn’t work well I got one at Hobby lobby and I’m telling you I kick myself in the butt for not getting it sooner it is amazing I yelled at myself for gluing and and trying to you know wing and a prayer 🙏 keeping my old one together I should’ve bought a new one decades ago it is just so nice that 22 bucks I’ve spent in a long time - I looked at the ones like you could hang on the wall and drop from the ceiling and all different kinds of ones and I just picked a cheap one and got that and I’m very happy with it I was quite surprised at how well it sets up very easy and it stays together so I got lucky 🍀 you may want to check it out

Dual Cassette Players/Recorders on box/stacked stereos- I loved being able to dub from friends' tapes, record from albums played on the same box/stacked system, or just make mix tapes.

Clothes- I love it when something old becomes trendy again. Even better if you can buy second hand and getting something truly vintage that works in the now. In college, I remember when vintage jeans became all the rage. Many thrift shops eventually got smart and marked up the old denim, but in the early days of it, you could get a nice pair that was properly worn in all of the right places for next to nothing.

Revivals- While there are so many great modern musicals and plays (and I am always in awe of people that create amazing new great things), there are also tons of classics that were legendary in their time that deserve to be reintroduced to the modern masses. Sure, some of the music and classic dances may be more retro but when paired with some modern touches (costumes and set changes), retro can become the new "must see." Chicago is actually the first thing coming to mind. The 1975 cast was something so special (still my fave recording) but the 1996 revival was a breath of the modern world into this retro classic with a new star studded cast that was really special in its own right. While I never liked the movie nearly as much, it added even more of a modern jolt into this masterpiece that introduced a new generation to the old. It just came to mind because my feed of reels was recently flooded by the viral "We Both Reached for the Gun" dance challenge... reminding me how much I love Bob Fosse's style and how some retro never goes out of style.

Newspaper.. Yuma has a full daily newspaper...color photos.. whole page for word puzzles...2 page activity happening.. local news , sports section and AP wire and a political page...all delivered to your mailbox post... Portland nor Salem Oregon can do that ...all these retro winter visitors and retired 70s-80s folks

Antenna TV... just don't watch TV beyond our Yuma broadcast range. Wife will try Hulu and other like offerings but I want to watch outside TV and stuck on a groove like a vinyl album

Brass nozzle...we have brass nozzles on our desert forest hoses.. they don't plastic crack over the summer ....yep still have to twist to open and swear tomorrow to buy a new rubber washer as the drip runs down the arm

Print newspapers and magazines. I enjoy print media and miss it. I am especially sad during the holiday season, when the Sunday paper used to be chock-full of sales ads!

CD players, in cars. I don't have a phone so I wouldn't play song lists (or whatever) anyhow, but now our cars no longer have CD players in them. I love my CDs; they have kept me company on many, many road trips.

Decent washing machines, the top loader kind with a center spindle and plenty of water. They were real work horses and did a great job washing my clothes. We still have one, and DH does everything in his (and YouTube's) power to keep it running.

TGIF Friends!
I’m in the single digits until my trip - 9 days and:mickeyjum

#1 - Air - I’m always grateful for clean air. NW Indiana air isn’t the cleanest, but it’s still good.

#2 - Kindness - I’m always grateful to give and receive kindness.

#3 - The Eucharist - I should have made this #1. I’m always & forever grateful to receive the Eucharist every weekend.
