Three Things...Gratitude Thread

IMG_6588.jpeg

Today's Topic (Mon, 2/10) - 3 things that you might overlook but are really grateful for for when you need them

Everyday tools - screwdriver- both kinds / hammer 🔨 pliers good pair scissors

Glue - you can never have enough - wood glue / super glue / everyday glue etc

Tape - duct tape / scotch tape / pkg tape

Rope - again different kinds for different jobs but nice to have good string around when you need it

Edit - clothespins - use them all the time !!!

Good Monday Morning!

#1 - Scissors - I just wrapped a present yesterday that would have bee very difficult to do without scissors

#2 - Bucket - I just wipe down all my kitchen cabinets and wood banisters with Murphy’s oil soap yesterday. It would have been very difficult to do this without a bucket to put my Murphy’s oil soap and water in.

#3 - Vacuum With Attachments - I vacuumed all my living room furniture yesterday, and also vacuumed every nook and cranny of my living room carpet which would have been very difficult to do without my vacuum with all the attachments. About 15 years ago, I bought this vacuum for almost $900. It’s a vacuum that has the canister on wheels that moves with the long rubber hose - my husband calls it and R2-D2 vacuum. I love this vacuum for big jobs because it does have lots of attachments and it’s got a lot of power and it really gets the job done. I don’t use it all the time because it is a bit of a hassle to drag out but once or twice a year when I need it, it’s the best!

A few days behind...

Clubs/Teams/Groups-

Symphony Chorus - DH sometimes jokes about it, like it wasn't a big deal (which I don't enjoy), but the reality is that it afforded me the opportunity to say I at least did something upper tier professional with my singing abilities. Being able to come together as a group to learn and perfect these masterworks and then get the rush of performing them in front of thousands of people are memories I truly treasure.

School Choir Boosters - Honestly, I was not a big fan of the group, but there are several things that came out of serving on the executive committee that have made me grateful. 1. It gave me a chance to sing on stage with my daughter. 2. My participation helped cement her scholarship award from the group.

Work Team - It has its ups and downs but we're a pretty good unit that works well together.

Pizza-

Tough since I've been trying to avoid cheese, but my favorite trio is roasted green bell peppers, sweet Italian sausage and black olives.

My second favorite is more of a Greek route with feta, spinach, and kalamata olives.

Third is more modern with something like sundried tomatoes, pine nut pesto, and artichoke hearts.

Overlooked Items-

Screwdrivers- I was trying to take the robot vacuum apart yesterday because someone left something on the floor that got tangled in the wheels. I couldn't have done it without a screwdriver.

Kitchen Knife- I recently got DH a new serrated one and it's become my go-to in the kitchen. I don't usually think about ease of cutting, but this knife has been the gamechanger I didn't realize I needed.

Toilet Paper- I won't get graphic, but I think we're all pretty happy when we know we have enough on hand and have a few spare rolls in the bathroom.

Bandaids... I have the covering that keeps them sanitized peeled back so when I am bleeding all over the sink it's not so messy...as you age your skin is no longer tough and citrus 🍊 🍊 trees have skin ripping thorns

Paper plates... when the kitchen is closed and the dishwasher is running... paper plates can withstand greasy pizza 🍕 🍕 🍕 🍕

Hand truck... push cart...and the volunteers from Canada call them dollies... they stand in the far corner of the garage until called to duty to save your body

Today's Topic (Tues, 2/11) - 3 things you're grateful for inspired by National Guitar Day

(...guitars you've had, friends or family members who play guitar, favorite guitar songs, memories that involve guitars, etc. - whatever fits for you)

Went to a Sting concert once and one of his band members did a solo pre concert and it was all guitar and he was great and signed his new cd - Dominic Miller

walked into the big music store that used to be in downtown DISNEY and they were playing some guitar music and just said to purchase at CD it was so good It was not all instrumental there was some singing and come to find out it was a movie actor who also did singing His name escapes me right now I’d have to go find my CD I’ll look for it and let you know it may take me a bit I have several like over 100

I enjoy listening to guitar music - especially in mariachi or just instrumental And appreciate the talent of people that can do it!!!

Good Tuesday Morning

#1 - Bon Jovi - Love him! ❤️ We’ve gone to 3 of his concerts.

#2 - The Guitar Player At Our Church - He brings beautiful group to the music ministry at my parish.

#3 - 80’s Music - Guitar is needed in bands regardless of its now or in the past, but it seems like guitar playing was showcased more in the 80s. 80s bands had big guitar solos all the time - you don’t hear that much in todays music.

My Dad plays guitar - I am very grateful for him, and for fond memories of listening to him play when I was a kid

My brother plays guitar, and makes extra money playing in a band, so I'm grateful he can do that

I'm grateful for quiet guitar music on Spotify - when you need some background sound but lyrics would get in the way of what you're doing

My best concert story EVER - I went to a Rolling Stones concert (a million years ago) with a bunch of friends. Long story, but a friend lucked out and was able to get us front row center for face value. Mid-concert, Mick came down and was singing to MOST of my friends...in their faces, holding hands, etc. Not that any of us were infatuated with them or anything like that, but it was a really cool thing. My friend directly to my left and I got passed over by Mick. We felt rejected! Then about 5 minutes later Keith Richards came down and did this major guitar solo in front of the two of us, at a similar distance. Right after he finished up, he tossed me a guitar pick. Of course, I wasn't expecting it and it went over my shoulder. I tried to retrieve it, but this beast woman started wrestling me for it. It ended up under the skid mats on the floor, totally unretrievable. I got up...concert still in full swing, and Keith Richards comes back down about halfway and yells something to me. Mind you... middle of a rock concert, so I couldn't hear him. I yelled back and gestured "What?" Which still cracks me up that I had that reflexive response... because who tries to have dialogue with a major rock star mid-concert? He tried yelling again, but it was no use. So he came down directly to me and got right into my ear and said "Sorry Love, that was my last pick."

Campout - I've shared before about our annual Christmas campout. It wouldn't be campout without the guys who come out with their guitars. Whether they are strumming along in the key of C for all of our holiday music sing-a-long pieces or having a jam session middle of the night with some old country favorites... the guitars are a vital part of the weekend.

Workout Music - I'm on week 10 of trying to get back in shape and my music library is helping guide the way. I won't give you a full rundown of every single day, but within the last day, music filled with guitar work has led me through nearly 21 miles on my stationary bike, 8.5 miles on the pavement, and a good 40 minutes with my weights and exercise balls. No, it's not all guitar, but I'd say 90% of what's on rotation at the moment is guitar heavy.

Awesomely amazing!! Where/when did you see the Stones? DH and I saw them at the Carrier Dome when they did the Steel Wheels tour, in 1989 (?).

Guitar stuff...
I used to play guitar when I was in high school. I wasn't very talented but knew enough chords so that the songs were recognizable. I have fond memories of sitting with friends, sometimes around a campfire with a bottle of wine, singing late into the night.

My son in law plays locally, professionally. His style isn't my style, but I love to go listen to him play. He works hard, was a single/sole custody dad (in a messy divorce with a challenged kid), and is finally figuring out what he wants to do (not music, but not what he went to school for) and how to get there. Playing brings him such joy... and a bit of cash!

When DD was about 5 and very sick with the chicken pox, we spent a lot of time watching late night TV as she couldn't really sleep. One crazy morning at 3am, I got sucked in by a Time-Life commercial and ordered the 8 CD "Singers and Songwriters" set. I was a sitting duck and the person to whom the infomercial was targeted, hahaha. HOwever... this turned out to be a really good purchase for us, with lots of the songs including guitar music, be it country, folk, or rock. We enjoyed those CDs!

I would’ve died the Rolling Stones my most favorite band in the whole world what a lucky person you are I would’ve fought that woman to the death for that pic

I tried but the other girl was hitting me and my fingers were getting bloodied up trying to dig into the mats. I asked security at the end, but it would have required pulling up a massive swath of mat and we weren't allowed to stick around for breakdown. It was wild because so many women were trying to invade our row to get close to them. Security must have dragged away a good 20 women from my little area alone over the course of the concert. I will say they put on one heck of a show and being that close made these larger than life iconic rock figures so real. The only thing I didn't like was how close we were to the pyro features. Every time they went off, it was like being just a little too close to a campfire or a stove burner. I thought I was going to come out with some singed hair or skin.
