Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Today I'm grateful for storage ottomans and my couch with storage in it. Great ways to store DVDs and blankets/pillows for guests (who sleep on the couch now that our former guest room is occupied by new roommates) in our small apartment.

I'm also grateful for Churu cat treats - they're gogurts for cats. They really help make them happy after something stressful like a vet trip.

Stuffed animals - Something cute to cuddle when things aren’t going your way is comforting, no matter how old you are.

Pillows - I love pillows! Piles of pillows on the bed and on the sofa all the time. When I travel solo I typically get a room with two beds just to have the extra pillows.

Tortellini - my favorite stuffed pasta

Good Morning!

For stuffed things……

#1 - My Dooney & Bourke Disney Purses - They hold all my important things to carry throughout the day.

#2 - My Belly After A Meal - Very grateful and blessed for the food I eat and that I’m able to fill my belly with all of it

#3 - Pierogies - They are stuffed with such yummy goodness

My favorite jazz album: Kind of Blue-Miles Davis
One of my favorite Joni Mitchell albums: Blue
Blue skies, especially in the fall and winter (many photos of these at WDW)
And always, the blue lights on the castle :) hence, my screen name

I know it’s been a while. Our November trip was a mixed bag of magical moments and others that were not so magical. December, I had pneumonia and the flu, at the same time!, and had to spend a week in the hospital. Low energy and less time on the DIS. Starting to reintegrate Disney and the DIS into my life and needing to read some positive things lately!

Stuffed things...
Dumplings/gyoza
Poultry- Doesn't have to be turkey, could be chicken or even duck. I love stuffing that's been baked inside the bird.
The little Valentine heart pillow that DD picked out for me when she was 8, so I've had it for 23 years. It's all ratty and flat now, but you can still read the message: "Yours Forever." I know she didn't understand that it was for a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, she just knew it's how she felt about me. She still does, apparently!

Blue things...
My light blue Disney sweatshirt that says "It's good to be home."
The ocean
My light blue topaz earrings.

Good Thursday Morning

I have so many songs to list - it’ll be hard to narrow it to 3

#1 - When You Wish Upon A Star - My favorite Disney song. Every time I hear it, I feel emotional. The soundtrack to Wishes is one of my favorite things to listen to and DD21 that when I die, this must be played at the conclusion of my wake (depressing thought I know)

#2 - Groovy Kind of Love - My DH and I’s first dance song at our wedding

#3 - On Eagles Wings - A hymn we sing at Mass, and it makes me cry Every. Single. Time. It’s embarrassing - LOL!

First off... @slo There is absolutely no embarrassment or shame in getting tearful over a beautiful piece of music. That's how you know it's really good! It doesn't matter the genre or whether it's secular vs. religious. Great music is supposed to move you!

BLUE

IASW Spirit Jersey - When we were at DLR over the summer, day 1...while I was in the Disneyland Hotel, I saw a women wearing this fabulous shirt. It wasn't available in the hotel shops and I couldn't find it in DTD on day 2. We had nearly 2 weeks of softball after that, and then we hit the parks. Park day 1...it was not at the shop by the attraction or any of the other stores I check. Park day 2...we were in DCA, so not going to find it there. Park day 3 - our final park day...it was not there in the morning, but when I checked back in the afternoon, they were fully stocked. It's a pale blue. I love it!

Blue's Clues - I think I was in college when this show came out, but it was so sweet and I adored Blue and her cute little noises.

The Blue One - If there is a blue option for pretty much anything, I usually want the blue one. Yesterday was one of the rare exceptions. I was buying a pair of new Brooks since the cushioning is shot on my current pair. The best blue option in women's was sold out in my size, the best blue option in men's would be a bit too wide for my foot (it's too bad because they were like Dory from Finding Nemo- but in a shoe!), so I went with orange.

SONGS

Man, this is tough. I can't do just three, but I won't drag this out for days. For what it's worth, I have a road trip playlist I built on Spotify that's the equivalent of nearly 9 days of music (when adding up the minutes)... and that's only more popular music from the last 6-7 decades. Things like show tunes, classical, American standard, holiday music, etc. are in their own little places. Even my holiday music playlist is nearly 26 hours of songs. I think categories may be my best approach since I have really eclectic tastes...

Classic Rock: Light My Fire - The Doors
American Standard/Jazzy: Luck Be A Lady - Frank Sinatra
Opera: Mein Herr Marquis - Die Fledermaus/Strauss
Choral: Ezekiel Saw the Wheel - William L. Dawson
Disco: Night Fever - The Bee Gees
80s: Duran Duran - Can't land on one right now but Vertigo has been it of late
90s Grunge: About a Girl (Live Unplugged Recording) - Nirvana
Angry Girl Rock: Only Happy When it Rains - Garbage
Alt Rock Older: Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode
Alt Rock Newer: Back Against the Wall - Cage the Elephant
70s Yacht Rock: This varies but right now, it's So Into You - Atlanta Rhythm Section
Beatles Fave: I Am The Walrus
Early to Mid 60s: Tied between Dee Clark's Raindrops and The Drifters Up On the Roof
Mid to Later 60s: Tied between The Zombies' Time of the Season and 96 Tears by Question Mark and the Mysterians
1950s: Tied between The Diamonds' Little Darlin' and The Crew Cuts' Sh-Boom
Rap/Club/R&B newer: California Love - Tupac...although Shoop by Salt-N-Peppa also up there a lot lately
Older R&B that I feel stands on its own from other categories: Lately it's Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke
Broadway Single Song: Tomorrow- Annie (specifically the Andrea McArdle original cast recording)
Broadway Full Soundtrack: Chicago (prefer the original cast)
Holiday fun: Here Comes Santa Claus - The Ray Conniff Singers' rendition
Holiday classical: The Carol of the Bells (choral acapella)
Halloween: The Monster Mash - Bobby "Boris" Picket
Disney Movie: Feed the Birds - Mary Poppins
Disney Attraction: Grim Grinning Ghosts - The Haunted Mansion
Country: Probably my least favorite genre but Alabama's Dixieland Delight is probably the top
Folk: Some say these may cross into country or other genres but Joan Baez's The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down or John Denver's Country Roads (this fits several genres)
Ragtime: The Entertainer - Scott Joplin
Early 1900s: Anything Goes - Cole Porter
Elvis: Devil in Disguise or Viva Las Vegas

I'm going to stop because I could clearly keep finding categories and I'm already getting bothered that I am missing so many other favorites that are in fairly regular rotation. I always have music in my mind and when I find something I love or rediscover it after a break, it gets heavy play. Honestly, some of these songs above have been played 50+ times just over the last week. I guess I'm grateful that I have so many musical loves that I can easily move on to the next great song after playing the last one to death for a while.

I also love, and cry, when I hear #1 and #3! I remember the transition to “folk” masses back in the day and have loved that song ever since. (even though I haven’t been an active church goer for many years.) When I am at a Catholic service and they sing that song I always tear up. I requested it for my mom’s funeral Mass.

I love your jams !!! We need to get together and compare music !!!

If you have Spotify, the big playlists noted above are under my alternative username: Houcusechickie

It's not perfect. Spotify is notoriously bad about repeating songs or artists in a short duration even though I literally have thousands of songs in that mix. Still, it allowed me to ditch the cost of Sirius. Of course, I also have a pretty hefty iTunes and Amazon music library from things I've purchased or converted over from CD.

Speaking of...for anyone that has ever purchased physical CDs through Amazon, did you know that those songs also get loaded to your digital Amazon music library?

I literally have hundreds or thousands of favorites! But I will see what happens if I just do this spontaneously, without thought:

Somewhere over the Rainbow: Judy Garland
River by Joni Mitchell
Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing: Stevie Wonder

#1 I used to sing to my daughter at bedtime and #3 I used to sing to her while I held her and we danced around the kitchen to my little boom box :)
#2 I love the piano part (I play piano) and it is the perfect song if you are not feeling particularly jolly at the holidays.

Honorable mention to The Twelfth of Never by Earth, Wind, and Fire. I just love it.

Great song! I remember waiting up for that music video to be released. There was so much hype. It's also one that I have in both my iTunes library and my big Spotify playlist.
