Three Things...Gratitude Thread

[Since this is a Disney board] Big family trip vs. solo trip to Disney. I don't do roller coasters, most things that go around or have big drops, or most screens. All make me motion sick. About the "most" I can handle is Big Thunder Mountain. When we go on family trips, I spend a lot of time holding sweaters and waiting for folks to get off the rides; I'm not going to ask them to skip their "thrills" because of me. However, on my solo trips, I can set my own schedule, do more out-of-the-way things (like roam the paths at the base of the Tree of Life), and see Disney MY way. OTOH... I love watching the looks on the faces of my loved ones and sharing our favorite things; this doesn't happen with solo trips and sometimes I feel a little lonely. So... I like both kinds of trips.

Weekdays vs weekends: As much as I complain about grading, I mostly like my job. I also like that working full time gives some structure to my days, some organization and predictability. However, on the weekends I love to kick back, stay in bed with my coffee and book, and either do the chores I want to do or do nothing at all, whenever I feel like it!

Hot coffee vs. iced coffee (it's a New England thing)- both with half and half, neither with sugar/sweetener, or flavor. Love them both!

Past God's amazing extra blessing of being a teacher to and I pray student ofgood person in lives of, a group of 8, 2 year old preschoolers. I had never taught so young, 2 1/2 was youngest and never just me and 8 kids who were also new to being at school. God created a little family of the 9 of us. Those precious kids are now 20+ now! :)

I also will firever hold dear memories of older preschoolers and school age kids I was a director a program for. I always wished I had chosen, probably listened to God and swutched at that time from directinf preschool to that school age program. All a blessing though no regrets. Joy and faith growth in all to me because my Savior is with me through all. Likewise precious memories of church kids and at summer camps.

Volunteering years ago for a Cancer Society tthrift store was a huge blessing I carry with me 30 years later.

Love and happy weekend to all :)

Work from home

Boss is NOT in any way micro manager leaves you to do your work however as long as it gets done on time and correctly

He’s extremely generous- he ALWAYS helps his employees & friends if they would need personal help !

It’s a crazy environment but has a lot of good things that most of the time outweigh the bad - having personal freedom goes a long way !!

1. DH and I work together just the 2 of us in a business and building we own. That means that unless we have customers in (a few times a year) or have appointments on our way to or from work, our dog goes to work with us. That keeps her much happier. We do leave her at home when the kids are home—summers and Christmas break. She likes to be with her people.
2. Flexibility—we make our own hours so have always been able to attend the kids’ school and extra curricular things. DH does travel so he misses some, but if he’s home and it’s in the middle of the afternoon he can generally be there. Also makes scheduling repair people, doctor appointments etc easier.
3. Part time—we occasionally have a big project and I work full time hours for a short time, but mostly I am part time and that allows me to keep up with the unpaid work at home.

1. Work From Home - I think it was 2012 or 2013 when we started adding in some work from home options. Pre-covid, I was up to three days from home. While we were classified as essential, covid shifted most of us to 100% remote due to our prior work from home successes. We still go in every couple of months for some face to face time, but most days are at home.
2. Time Off - When you add up all of our vacation time, personal day allowances, sick time, and holidays it works out to something like 8-9 weeks off per year.
3. Charity - I love the company's generosity. Yes, they make the stereotypical donations and matching contributions, which is great. However, I'm thinking more about the people and opportunities we're given to also donate our time/spaces as well as the money out of our own pockets. From Adopt an Angel, backpack drives, and offsite volunteer days at places like animal shelters to opening up our spaces for small local vendors and start ups to get their products in front of people.

Opposites (forgot to come back yesterday to two more of those after my sample one) -
  • Sweet & Spicy - I love both kinds of foods!
  • City & Country - I loved growing up in a rural area because it was so beautiful, but I also love the cultural availability of living near a city now
Job(s) - I'vd liked all my jobs over the years, but was probably most grateful for substitute teaching. I loved:
  • Having such unbelievable flexibility
  • Learning from so many different, wonderful teachers
  • Never getting bored

Today's Topic (Fri, 1/26) - 3 things you're grateful for about your job

I was valued and appreciated at my job by supervisors, coworkers, and my families for the most part. (Social worker for the state, mostly in foster care & adoption services.)

State employment was stable and benefits were very good, even retirement benefits & healthcare are good.

I felt like I made a difference in the lives of children and families.

I definitely miss the work but the daily grind, deadlines, and emergencies are not missed at all. I'm happily retired.

Things about my job:

Flexibility- As long as the experiments are set up for each day's lab, my grading is posted in a timely manner, and the labs run smoothly, my time is pretty much my own. I know what needs to be done and as long as it is, nobody is getting in my face about how I spend my workday, and where.

Spectacular health care benefits- at an incredibly affordable premium.

I teach college students and work with graduate students. I am old enough to be their mother, if not their grandmother, but they like to talk with me. I feel it "keeps me young!"

Retired from Teaching all levels from middle school through college! I loved

Working with students…I have met so many and at different ages!

All the “Ahah” moments when something clicked for a student!

When someone came back to mention how much they used what I shared. It wasn’t always about the subject, but something they learned in my class!

Good Saturday Morning!

#1 - Local TV Stations - I love having my local news in the morning and at dinner time.

#2 - Sirius XM Radio - I love listening to The Catholic Channel every day (I have learned so much) and my favorite music channels.

#3 - Internet - It’s hard to remember what life was like before it.

Local Newspaper daily - used to love getting my daily newspaper and reading it every night and doing the games

News both local & National watch it every night and most mornings and try to never miss the Sunday Morning news on CBS where they do all those stories

Books - can’t imagine a world without books - I read every night for at least an hour so grateful for books

Internet - great way to learn new things and make new friends !!

(Sat, 1/27) - 3 forms of media you are (or have been) grateful for
