Three Things...Gratitude Thread

So I know I'm way behind, and I'm not even going to try to catch up, but I'll do the last few days, at least. Combination of just forgetting to check and then... life.

(Fri, 10/27) - 3 animals you're grateful for
1. Sloths (that should be a a surprise to no one here)
2. Pandas
3. Puppies

(Sat, 10/28) - 3 cartoons, comics, etc. that you are/were grateful for
1. Baby Blues
2. Zits
3. Disney (can I just give that as a general answer?? lol)

(Sun, 10/29) - 3 things you're grateful for about the internet
1. Easy communication with others
2. Google!
3. This community

So... this doesn't excuse the week before that I've been absent, but please keep my mom in your thoughts/prayers.

The past few years she has been helping a family at my church by watching their four younger kids for them (their oldest has a severe disability and their mom is home schooling them and just needs a BREAK sometimes!). This past Thursday she was at their house with them. Their mom came home with the oldest and the dog. The dog was excited to see my mom can came up to her for a friendly greeting. The dog knocked my mom off balance a bit. She put her foot back to steady herself, but her shoe caught on a concrete slab instead. She fell and cracked her pelvis in two places. She's in the hospital right now. No surgery, but it will be a slow, painful recovery for her. *sigh* This is a woman who is 81 and was walking 3 to 5 miles a day before this!

Internet -
I definitely second being able to look up information easily, and the connections here on the DIS!
Instagram - DH and send each other reels and jokingly call it the 6th love language.
Access to various classes on YouTube and Zoom.

@Allison Joy I'm sorry to hear about your mom's accident. I separated my pelvis giving birth, and there isn't a lot they can do for pelvis injuries except wait it out- and it's not fun. I hope she heals quickly and uneventfully.

Three things about the internet:

Making friends, whether they stay virtual or become friends IRL. I met a woman who's become pretty much my best friend via the DISboards. She was renting out seats on her Illuminations Cruise, and we took 2 of them. The rest is history. Then there are all of you and others who frequent the CB and other boards. These are folks who I've come to care about, and who, in turn, have come to care about me, too, even though we are actual strangers... but virtually friends!

I like being able to print out maps and directions. I don't have a cell phone, and even if I did, I don't think I'd use the "directions" apps. I like seeing where I am headed, and knowing where I am along the way. I remember traveling with a friend once and she got lost, somehow, and the voice from the app kept saying "recalculating." I asked her where we were and she had no idea. I like knowiong where I am!

I have the entire library of the world at my fingertips. Can't ask for a whole lot more!

Amen to the library, dear Leebee! Dad can find a needle in a haystack. He is fantastic at reading maps and finding almost anywhere. I do much better with simple printed out instructions that say something like "turn right at the church on the corner." No East, west, North, or South even for me lol.

Sweet dreams everyone! :)

Calendars - I have a pretty wall one, but I also use a weekly dry erase one on the fridge for menus, and the one in my phone for reminders.

Schedules - I always enjoyed making colorful schedules for my classes in college, for DS's activities when he was little, etc.

Grocery Lists - I have a pad on the fridge where we all jot things down as we realize we need more, then I tend to rewrite it in aisle-order (adding the usual weekly stuff) before I go to the store.

It’s the start of a new week :cool1:

I love staying organized!

#1 - I’m grateful for the calendar that came with my phone - lots of my personal reminders on there.

#2 - I’m grateful for The Cozi app (a family calendar app) - the 3 of us all use it on our phones together so we always know what someone else has planned - we’ve been using it for many years now.

#3 - I’m grateful for my filing system in my desk - everything has a place so nothing gets misplaced.

Things that keep me organized:

DD30 is a list-maker extrordinaire! Every Saturday she peruses the two local grocery store flyers, then makes a meal plan for the week AND a grocery list. I am not a grocery-list person, but with 5 of us in the family now, it is incredibly helpful. She also posts the meal plan AND who is responsible for making sure dinner is on the table by 6:30-ish (based on work schedules). You have no idea how extremely helpful this is for me!

My filing system. I am a hard-copy girl so my bills all arrive in the mail. I have a system for storing them and although it gives DH fits (it's just a series of 5X7 envelopes, color-coded by due date), it works for me and the bills are never late. (I pay them online, even though I prefer by check. When the pandemic hit all of a sudden my payments to credit cards were late, so I started scheduling them online. I admit... it's easier/faster.)

Simple calendar on the desktop of my laptop (no smart phone here). When I post something I can open up a field where I can put in all the details, like flight times and numbers, confirmation numbers, how old someone is going to be, appointment times, etc. Very handy for me.

I agree with most all of your great answers already dear friends. i am also organized by nature.

Lists for sure especially for shopping
I try to organize mail especially birthday cards by groups of a time during a month to send them all
Calendars for sure
Coupons can also help keep me organized because of use by dates

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Quickie Answers Today…..

#1 - Getting together with my neighbors

#2 - Awesome Memories of past Halloweens when my girls were young. We have the best memories of us and the neighbors (3 houses) taking all 7 of our girls trick or treating. Us mom’s are making sure the girls aren't running on people‘s lawns, being polite, not running in the street and the dads are pulling the booze wagon getting tanked on beer, spiked apple cider and moonshine :sad2: :rolleyes2. Sadly, our neighbors friend, who was like an uncle to all the girls always came with and he recently passed away at 47yrs old from cancer. We’ll be remembering him today and missing him at the neighbors house tonight.

#3 - Halloween candy. I don’t buy any, but the minute I get to the neighbors I’ll yell out, “Ok girls…Ms. Sandy needs some Reese’s and Hershey’.” And like magic I get some - LOL!
