Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Now let's see here... Where did I leave off? Oh, yes. It appears to be about a week ago. As usual. ;)

(Sun, 7/30) - 3 things you're grateful for from any (or a mix) of the above categories
I've got to go with public education. I've told my "good teacher" stories multiple times on here, so I'm going to go more general this time.
1. The community I felt, particularly at my elementary school and high school. More people and teachers knew me than I actually knew, and I felt I could go to pretty much anyone with any problems.
2. The opportunity to be in both gifted education and special education. I feel like I got to see the whole spectrum of students who public schools serve, and that wasn't lost on me, even in elementary school
3. The 504 accommodations I got in Jr. High and high school, without any push-back. In fact, by the time I was in high school, I think it was rather informal, but I never had anyone question me on it.

3 hobbies, fandoms, etc. you're grateful for
1. Harry Potter
2. Disney
3. Is NASA a fandom?

(Tues, 8/1) - 3 Websites You're Grateful For
I'm going to say that this site is a given, so...
1. Google! I don't know what I'd do without Google.
2. Neopets (virtual pets site... My oldest pet is now 22 years old!)
3. Reddit. Yes, it can be a bit... messy and it's a bit of a guilty pleasure, but it's also how I FINALLY found a desk and chair that work for me.

(Wed, 8/2) - 3 Thing You're Grateful for about August
1. Awana starts back up at church!
2. It means it will start getting cooler soon
3. All the back to school pictures my friends post on Facebook

3 fruits (or things made with fruit or fruit flavors) that you're grateful for
1. Pluots (Combo of plum and apricot)
2. Oranges
3. Kiwi

(Fri, 8/4) - Summer Memories You're Grateful For
I'm going general with this one for now. So many individual memories I could mention!
1. Church summer camp - could easily make a full list just on that
2. Family vacations in "The Yellow Banana," our yellow station wagon
3. Summer fun playing with friends

(Sat, 8/5) - 3 yellow things you're grateful for
1. The sun. It finally came out today, after many days of cloudy weather
2. Sunflowers
3. Does Joy from Inside Out count?

(Sun, 8/6) - 3 pink things you're grateful for
1. Flowers
2. Cute pink baby clothes
3. Erasers

Happy Monday Everyone

Tough to narrow this topic done to three…..

#1 - I’m grateful for Violet Crowley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham from Downton Abbey - I love everything about her, plus she reminds me of my Grandma. The Dowager gives a lot of great advice during the shows 6 seasons and two movies that I’ve incorporated into my own life. I’ve watched this show twice and it’s time for me to start it a third time. It is my most favorite TV show ever.

#2 - I’ll stick with another Maggie Smith character and say I’m grateful for Professor Minerva McGonagall - another tough lady - I’ve always loved and respected this character.

#3 - I’m grateful for Miriam “Midge” Maisel - she has made me laugh laugh laugh lately. She has given me a lot of smiles while I’m on the treadmill or bike at the gym. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has now jumped into my top 5 shows - I love it!

Good morning!

I am checking in with yesterday’s as well.

3 pink things:
1. My daughter’s previous love of pink. She’s on to purple now, but pink defined many years. Memories of her preference for pink make me smile.
2. The pink flowers in my garden.
3. Blush! Makes me look alive!

3 fictional characters:
1. From childhood, Nancy Drew. She was my favorite.
2. For my children, the characters in Mo Willems’s books, especially Pigeon. So many laughs shared!
3. Mickey Mouse, because “it all started with a mouse.”

/
Characters:

1. Winnie the Pooh—loved him since I was little. One of my first memories was chasing him around the park with my mom. So out of character for my mom.
2. Minnie Mouse—my older girls were scared of the characters (okay with princesses, but no male characters or animals—spent a lot of time avoiding characters when they were little). Then DD#3 came along and she was absolutely mesmerized by Minnie. Wanted to go see her, have her picture taken with her, dress up like her. It was so much fun.
3. Princesses—without the princesses my older girls would have missed out on character meals and dressing up themselves. Oldest DD was always Cinderella and middle DD was Sleeping Beauty. Middle DD probably especially loved the princesses.

Pooh - are used to love going to Sears when I was little because they had a huge display of Pooh - I always wanted one but never got one I just love staying in there staring at all those big stuffed Winnie the Pooh‘s! And every time I see Winnie the Pooh I think of that and I think of Sunday nights watching the wonderful world of Disney❤️❤️❤️❤️

Can't do just 3 characters, because memorable characters are made by the folks in their world! Having said that...
1. The Pooh Guys. I never read Winnie the Pooh as a kid, but DD was raised on the Pooh Guys. She and I have endless memories of time spent "with" these characters, and there are things from this group of characters that still make me cry.

2. Harry Potter, et al. To me, these books/movies were groundbreaking and inspirational. I can remember family gatherings where 3 generations would sit around the table, discussing the same literary characters, plots, etc. THREE GENERATIONS, all discussing the same thing- talk about involvement and bonding!

3. Sheldon Cooper and the gang from Big Bang. DH and I are scientists, him especially. I just "fell into" science, but DH is a big science nerd from the beginning, with bachelors degrees in physics and chemistry, and a PhD in biophysical chemistry. He gets all fired up watching Big Bang, knows the scientists they discuss, knows who earned which Nobel and for what and comments before the show explains, etc. We often joke that DH "out-Sheldons" Sheldon!

I use to love the Nancy Drew books as well!

WDWEPCOT, thank you and everyone, for your extra foot care and prayers:grouphug:I appreciate all of dear you with all my 💕I completely agree with you also about pluto: I attached a picture of my new Skechers! Dad and I each got new sneakers this morning, thanks to God! We also by His additional grace, had a Skecher's $15 Reward that in addition to the store's usual buy one, get one half off sale, gave us a great deal on two pairs of 👟

Three Fictional Characters

I am hesitant to call them fictional because although "Andrew, Monica, and Tess," were fictional, the Touched by an Angel angels were absolutely used by God in my opinion both on the show and in real life to serve Him!

pooh:for sure along with our favorite mice::MickeyMo::MinnieMoPooh has always been a favorite because he simply loves everyone, no question. He cares and is a good friend.

I was never into Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys. As a kid, I did find much solace and escape from a less than healthy/positive at times childhood through the Bobbsey Twin books. I had most of the purple hardcovers in this series. Of course, I was against the stereotypes and other unfairness/plain wrong of this series. I am simply sharing because they provided young me some peace.

So very many more for sure!

Fictional characters I am going back to favorites as a child.

All of the characters in Carolyn Haywood books. I loved all, B is for Betsy was the first I read.

I had many of Disney’s record with a book albums, and I especially loved Snow White and Cinderella.

Pinnochio…I had a wooden one with a short and a long nose…I played with him a lot.

I do love my Disney music - it reminds me of happy times in the Parks - meeting new friends ( Bobbi for one ) - watching Disney movies & TV shows - Daniel Boone & Zorro - and all the fun I have had on cruises and again all the wonderful people I’ve met and made friends with ! Full circle ⭕️ started with the DIS Boards - I so enjoy our grateful thread what an awesome idea PollyannaMom had ❤️❤️

Never got back on and posted my own fictional characters yesterday:

:wizard:🧙‍♂️🐈‍⬛ Another vote for all the Harry Potter characters! - It's such a complete world, and as @leebee said, was something the generations could enjoy together in our family.

✨🚀👾 The original Star Trek characters. This show was groundbreaking in the way it handled and promoted diversity on screen. The messages it's characters taught were (and still are) so important!

👧💖📚 And one special favorite book character - Matilda. I gravitate to her love for books and reading, her sense of justice, and how she finds the magic in everyday things.

Sorry to hear about your foot pain and issues.
I‘ve suffered from feet issues for longer than I care to think about - heel spurs, torn plantar fascia (resulted in surgery), fallen arches and more. I‘ve found that Birkenstock sandals are the best for bad feet - I wear them around my house (I have indoor shoes) and they are the only sandals I wear outside of the house. They are expensive, but they last for many years, so they’re worth it.
Also, you should think about getting some custom made orthotics for your gym shoes. Many podiatrists can order these for you. Again, they are expensive, but worth it. Some insurance plans will help pay for them if your deductible is met.
I hope you feel better soon! :wizard:
