Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I second birthday cake!

Cheese Balls - I make them for Thanksgiving, and sometimes for Easter too (egg-shaped, of course .)

My mom's no-bake chocolate cookies - They became a "holiday" food for a specific annual cookout some family friends hold. I cannot show up without them. (Notice I'm not complaining about that, because I love any excuse to make them!)

Bonus from DH - Pea Casserole! (It's like the green bean one, only better.)
Just like MommaKetch yesterday...you had me til the end 😅

Holiday Foods:
1. Mashed Potatoes—my family loves a “do-ahead” mashed potato recipe I make. It has too much sour cream and cream cheese to be a regular menu item, but I make them Thanksgiving/Christmas and a few other times per year. There were complaints at Easter when I did scalloped instead. 🤷‍♀️
2. Stuffing—one of my all time favorite foods is a cornbread sausage stuffing.
3. Christmas cookies—I do make a variety as do my sisters and those are our desserts during the winter holidays.

My bonus is my mom’s broccoli casserole. It’s the only recipe I have in her handwriting. We have it at every holiday and I often make it. We’ve adapted it up as my BIL, nieces and nephew are gluten free, but still good. Most of the kids even like it.

Happy Saturday
It‘s a beautiful weather day by me today 😎☀️

#1 - I’m grateful for my mom’s stuffing on Thanksgiving - I have the recipe and I should try to make it someday.

#2 - I’m grateful for my DH’s sausage and sauerkraut on Easter - it’s so good! It’s not as good as my grandma’s (RIP), but it’s a very close second,

#3 - I’m grateful for my corn pudding that I only make on Thanksgiving - the recipe was given to me about 25 years ago and I’ve made it every year since.

Ok I have to ask - what kind of sausage ? How do you cook it ? I do like sauerkraut so I’m interested 🤔🤔 as you don’t find a lot of recipes with that …..full disclosure - because of my IC I’m not to eat sauerkraut but I will occasionally and then regret it the next day 🤣🤣

Christmas cookies for sure🍪

Hot Chocolate always taste best in December, too.

When I enjoyed eating sugar regularly, as I shared yesterday, pink peppermint stick ice cream during Christmas season.

Summer will always bring Otter Pops into my heart for how much kids in my life always have loved them. During my college days, I enjoyed Blue Raspberry Icees.

🍓and I enjoy 🍎sauce every day but it does taste better, especially when chilled more, in warmer weather. A healthy staple to extra enjoy.

Dad is the foodie not me. He enjoys seasonal granola cereals and caramel more in Autumn and at Christmastime Starbucks Cranberry Bliss Bars.

Enjoy a Summer (or anytime), favorite food today, Friends :)

Every Christmas my mom makes her no bake cookies - almond bark, rice krispies, peanuts, and marshmallows 🥰

And don't think I didn't notice all you "stuffing" people

J
esus
O
lympics
Yearbook/journalism class in high school

(Fri, 6/23) - 3 pink things you're grateful for
1. Flowers
2. Baby girl clothes
3. Highlighters

(Sat, 6/24) - 3 holiday foods you're grateful for
1. BBQ
2. Steaks (we do stakes for most major holidays)
3. Turkey

1. Roast duckling with cranberries, prunes, and orange. We have duck rather than turkey for Thanksgiving. There are only two of us, and we prefer duck to turkey.

2. Green bean casserole. I never had this until I was 30 years old, at my MIL's one Thanksgiving. I love it, and I think of my MIL, who I also loved, every time we have it.

3. Roast lamb with mint sauce- for Easter.

4. Seafood chowder for Christmas Eve, which is my tribute to the Feast of Seven Fishes.

Holiday food

1. Christmas cookies
2. Mom's dressing (no "stuffing" around here!)
3. Strawberry salad (strawberries, jello, cream cheese, pretzels...)

Some of my favorites too - my mom makes the strawberry salad for everything - it's her begged for thing - for church potlucks, funeral dinners, family gatherings, etc. We call it pretzel jello - so good! I sometimes eat it for dessert!

1. I definitely have to agree with the dressing - my mom and my MIL make such different dressings, but they are both SOO good!

2. Rye bread and dip. We have it for pretty much every holiday with my sister's family. DH's family doesn't really like it, so I never take it there.

3. Harry and David dip and/or Nieman Marcus dip - both sides love this, so it tends to be everywhere!

The improvement in Disney security where you walk through the metal detector with your bags, instead of having to wait for every bag to be manually searched.

The improvement that with cell phones you can call anywhere in the US without a toll charge.

GPS is an improvement over paper maps.

Happy Sunday DIS Friends

#1 - I’m grateful for the improvement of softball bats since my DD19 started playing 13 years ago - the improvements come at a price - her bats cost over $300.00 - $400.00 a piece, but it’s worth it. You all don’t even want to know how many bats we have around here - it’s a lot.

#2 - I’m grateful for the improvement of Amazon over the years - many will disagree with this, but I love it. It’s reduced me running around looking for something by a lot, and when gas is over $4.00 a gallon, I don’t want to be running around unnecessarily for anything.

#3 - I’m grateful for the improvement of treadmills - the features on them now are so nice. Speaking of which - I am now leaving for the gym - have a good day folks!

GPS is an improvement over paper maps.
I second GPS - I still love maps as art and for general information, but GPS upped my confidence in driving by myself sooooo much! I can actually say it changed my lifestyle.

Cameras in phones - I've been a hobby photographer ever since I was old enough to have my own camera, but having one with me all the time, taking up no extra space (and with instant editing) is a game-changer.

Refrigeration - I'm not old enough to have had an actual "ice box" but I imagine it was a big step up when we went to modern refrigerators and freezers, and I'm certainly grateful for them.

...so handy sometimes, rather than always talking on phone calls (which I'm terrible at ending!!!!)
