Three Things...Gratitude Thread

"Two for Tuesday" - things you're grateful for that come in pairs

Okay. I don't know if all of my answers "count" but... here we go. Ha! I'll give other answers if these are stretching the topic too much!

1. I kind of mentioned this yesterday, but I work out of two different offices, so my job kind of comes in "pairs."
2. My pair of glasses that I've been wearing since I was 3 or 4... Don't even know what life is like without them anymore, nor do I want to. I mean, I can see "well enough" but still wouldn't want to try!
3. Do my parents count?? I'm so grateful for my parents and the 50 years they had together before my dad passed.

Today's Topic (Wed. 11/23) - 3 Traditions You're Grateful For

(inspired by Thanksgiving tomorrow, but they can be any kind - family, town, school, whatever...)

Hey Hey Hey….It’s the day before Thanksgiving

I’m all about traditions - they are very important to me.
I’ll stick with some upcoming ones, since we do have many.

I’m grateful that my DD19 still wants to get our Thanksgiving morning Starbucks. I started this when Starbucks came to our town, when my girls were young, and they loved it - it was a treat for them, because I don’t buy Starbucks (still don’t - haven’t been there since last Thanksgiving). DD gets Starbucks all the time, but she doesn’t want to break tradition and still go - this warms my heart ❤️

I’m grateful that DD19 chooses family over friends the day after Thanksgiving when we always get a huge stuffed pizza and watch Christmas Vacation - we’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember. ❤️

I’m grateful for my DH’s & DD19’s tradition of putting out & up the outdoor Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving. I love watching them work together and the end result always makes our house look nice. ❤️

I’m going to add a forth one, since I just put these on my table 2 minutes ago….

I’m grateful for these little guys.
They have been our traditional way of showing everyone where they are sitting for probably 15 or 16 years (I wish I would have dated them 😣). My MIL loves doing crafts and she made these with my girls. I will be using these for the rest of my life, unless DD19, when she has her own house someday, starts hosting and then she’ll happily use them.

(Wed. 11/23) - 3 Traditions You're Grateful For

1. Making my great grandmother's stuffing..she always called it French Dressing. I am the only one who really loves it, so I make it just for me, as a memory of so many holidays spent with her
2. Baking pumpkin pies the day before Thanksgiving
3. When I was younger, a tradition was always to watch Heidi, starring Shirley Temple. Now that I am older, we usually kick off the holiday season by watching either Home Alone or Lampoons Christmas Vacation.
4. Had to add another, as my own personal tradition is to take a long walk outside after dinner, and thank God for everything I have had in my life and still have.

3 Traditions
1. Each year, we take the kids on an off-season trip to the beach to have a picnic, collect shells, and fly kites. We go to the beach during regular season, too, but there is something special about having the beach (mostly) to ourselves.
2. We make Tourtiere meat pie from my grandmother's recipe that she "handed down to me" by having me help her make it.
3. Each year my children make a few decorations and hang them on the Christmas tree. These ones mean more to me than any store-bought ornament.

1. As @WDWEPCOT said, cinnamon rolls for breakfast on holidays. We also have orange rolls, and occasionally add in pecan rolls too. Pillsbury ones, as it's tradition.

2. we always say one thing we are thankful for before we eat.

3. The required listening to Alice's Restaurant, and then we watch A Christmas Story.

That is something we had to have every Thanksgiving table, in my old life with my ex. They just called it French meat pie, I didn't know it was called Tourtiere. We got ours from a local bakery, no longer in business. We had one relative would would just bang on the table and loudly say 'pass the meat pie' over and over again until he got it. Your post brought back that memory, so thanks!

Thanksgiving - I always do something crafty for people at dinner to write down things they're thankful for. This year it is a fabric-wrapped foam wreath, and they will write on paper leaves and pin them on it.

Holiday - I've always loved driving around to look at the lights! I would do that with my Grandma when I was little, and DH and I continued the tradition with DS.

Random - When DS was young, I always used to make a special cake for the first day of a new school year.

1. Thanksgiving: Old traditions when family members were healthy enough to get together...my SIL's apple crumb pie which I now make myself...the one day of the year I could count on seeing my DB...long walks after dinner. Life-long traditions like watching the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" in our pajamas while eating breakfast...delicious food...watching "A Christmas Story" in the evening.

2. Christmas: Old tradition of getting the live tree from a farm...hiking in the snow...drinking cocoa near the bonfire...taking a hayride with our tree back to the car. Putting up the tree on Christmas with all of my family, mostly gone now. Church at midnight on Christmas Eve. Life-long traditions of baking and decorating Christmas cookies...decorating multiple trees with immediate family and sharing meals with them even when we couldn't visit other family because of Covid...watching all of the Christmas movies.

3. Celebrations like birthdays, new jobs, awards, basically anything fun and happy.

1.Putting up the tree Thanksgiving night and enjoying the quiet after everyone goes upstairs
2.Mimosas on Christmas day as I prep the prime rib I make
3.Coffee every weekend morning with my husband at home

3 Traditions You're Grateful For

1 Morning and bedtime time of extra, closer, communion and prayer/talking with God.
2 Reading Luke 2 on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day along with a children's book called Santa's Favorite Story.
3 ITA with Summer2018 about celebrations whether they be daily or for Thanksgiving tomorrow. All joy and thanks to God.
4 Watching either the Price is Right or a Hallmark movie with my dad each evening before we each settle in for the night.

3 Traditions You're Grateful For

1. The Thanksgiving service at my church. Yes, we have a service actually on Thanksgiving morning. Almost none of it is planned ahead. Instead, it's an hour of spontaneous personal testimony and hymns by request. It is my favorite service of the entire year, even above Christmas Eve and Easter. Not quite the same since the long-time "MC" of the service passed on to his eternal home, but still my favorite service.

2. Christmas Eve candlelight service. It's taken a few different forms over the years, but still a favorite.

3. Taking off work for my birthday.

People putting up Christmas lights
People baking Christmas cookies
Radio stations playing Christmas music

I'm grateful for many group traditions but am more grateful that I created a few of my own:
I love taking a drive around town with happy music just to see what is going on every weekend
I love watching a new movie on a holiday, it started as a healing distraction but stayed because it is so soothing to me (theaters were best but I didn't resume that yet
I love to drive around town in the evening just to look at everyone's lights
